The Oasis
Chapter 1
Iris opened her eyes aware of something rather heavy on top of her body, pushing at it and moaning

“get off of me George.”

Nothing happened, and she looked around becoming aware of her surroundings, she panicked and screamed. She was in the midst of a horrible plane wreck, a man and metal atop her small body. She called out, surely there must be other survivors if she was alive.

“Help, please someone! Help!” She heard a woman crying, and some moaning behind her, yes there were survivors.

“Hello? Is anyone there? I’m trapped under a man and a rather large scrap of metal.”

She heard footsteps coming near her, and then a voice, a lovely accented voice.

“Hold on a second Miss, I’ll be right there.”

She relaxed as much as was possible with all the weight on her constricting her breathing.

“Yes, thank you.” She called out.

Suddenly there was a man standing before her, blood and a black liquid covered his face and body, she guessed was oil, he was rather handsome even under all the oil and blood.

“Are you injured Miss?” he asked.

“No I don’t believe I am, I’m only having trouble breathing Sir.”

The man looked over the scene, a man laying atop her and a large scrap of airplane on top of the man, which he thought must have killed him.

“Is he dead?” he asked.

“Yes, I do believe so, he’s not breathing."

“Alright, I’ll see what I can do here then.”

The man stood up and started pulling at the scrap of metal on top of them. It barely moved, even under his full strength.

“Hmm, hey can someone help out here?” He called out to whoever was able.

“What have we got here?” a man’s voice came.

“She’s stuck under this man and a scrap of the plane.” he replied.

“Ahh I see, let’s give it a go shall we.”

The men together pulled at the scrap of metal causing it to fall and release the man and woman trapped under it.

“Great, thanks mate.”

And the man who had come to help left the other to take care of the rest.

He pulled the dead man off the woman and knelt down beside her.

“Well, that was easy.” He winked at the girl next to him and offered her his hand.

“Can you stand?” She reached for his hand feeling a pain in her side, and she winced causing the man to look concerned.

“I believe I can, just a bit of a pain in my side.” She replied.

He looked her over a moment before pulling her to her feet, she didn’t appear injured and may just be sore from the crash as he was.

“What’s your name love?” He asked her.

“Iris, Iris Levy, and yours?” The man hesitated a moment before responding with only Orlando.

Iris dusted herself off a moment before staring at the man.

“Well, Orlando, thank you very much.” She smiled and walked away to take in the scene around her.

People were dead all around her, the plane had parts torn out and they were in apparently the middle of a desert. Her jaw dropped and she felt her knees go weak, and her stomach threatened to empty what was in it. She closed her eyes to settle her nerves before seeking someone out again.

“Um I don’t mean to be pushy gentlemen, but what the hell are we going to do? We can’t stay in the desert and we have no water and and and and…”

She began to feel faint again and grabbed for what remained of the planes wall nearest her. Orlando stepped forward to steady her.

“Are you okay Miss Levy?” She didn’t hear him all she could hear was the blood rushing about in her head as she passed into darkness.
