Anywhere But Home

Disclaimer: I do not own Green Day or anything except for the character Amber. I do not make money off of this story and this disclaimer is for future chapters as well.

"Are you always so naive?"

Amber turned around only to find that voice was hers and hers alone. The street lights were glistening on her just right. They perfectly reflected every last tear that was falling down her porcelain cheeks. She was looking for a haven which meant anywhere but home. He could find her in her home, well, house. Home is where the heart is but alas, her heart belonged at the last place she suspected.

I stood at the corner near all of the worn and torn buildings that held more memories then I could ever possibly list. My cigarette was nearly all ash but I still pursed my lips around it hoping to get one last puff. I leaned against a brick wall and sighed as my fingers combed through my tousled, black mane. The stars weren't visible but I still made a wish. I figured what was the worst that could happen, it won't come true? Not like it would anyway, right?

Amber stopped walking when she reached me. "Do you know where the bus stop is?" Her eyes told me everything I needed to know about her. They showed her past, present, and what she assumed would be her future. I tossed what remained of my cigarette and looked her up and down. It was more than obvious that she believed I was going to hurt her. She hugged herself and mumbled softly yet somehow beautifully "Sorry I bothered you.".

I grabbed her arm and squeezed gently before she got away. She gasped and pulled away slowly but still stood there blankly in front of me. She shifted her weight from side to side as if waiting for me to pull out my gun. It most likely would of been a gift of relief to her. Death at that moment seemed like it would of been received by her like a warm hug form an old friend. "What's your name?" I questioned, never taking my eyes off of hers. She refused to let her eyes meet mine. She was afraid to let me see into her shattered soul.

"Amber."
"I'm Billie Joe."
"Where's the bus stop?"
"Why? Where do you need to go?"
"Anywhere." Her voice cracked and it nearly broke my heart.
"I'll take you anywhere."
"That's ok. I'm fine with the bus."
"Look, you don't refuse a gift it's bad luck and this is a gift. Don't insult me now."

I gave her a crooked smile and decided that she would make the wrong decision so I should make it for her. The streetlight behind her began to flicker as I pulled her away to my car. She didn't fight. She didn't have a fight left in her.

I opened the sleek, newly waxed car door for her. She tried to get passed me and into the car without touching me but I made that a challenge for her. Right as she made her way in front of me, I stepped forward so her shoulder would brush against mine. She was taken back by it and I was terrified thinking of what I was to do if she had a heart attack.

As I drove off I decided it was time to get to know Amber a little better. "Why'd you run away?" I asked point blank. She pretended to be interested in a passing car and said in a whisper "From home? I guess there's too much for me to handle there. Where are we going?"
"Anywhere." I smiled and slowly pulled into a parking spot next to the mounds of sand.

There was a slight breeze and the ocean was full of whitecaps. Amber sat up and took in all that was around the car. She became entranced with the movements of the ocean and didn't look away. She was truly gorgeous. I couldn't believe that something as perfect as her had been hurt so badly. I wondered who the idiot was that had killed her on the inside. Then that face that I instantly fell in love with, turned around towards me and finally it had a smile spread across it.

My eyes flickered and then it felt like she had set me aflame. My cheeks were burning and I hated every second of it. I was always the guy who was "anti-love" and yet I fell so quickly and stupidly. My wish had come true.

"It was my boyfriend and my parents." she said calmly as she shook out her red hair. It was short but very feminine and not too short. It was right below her ears and jagged. It framed her face perfectly.
"What did they do?"
"My parents never think I'm good enough."
"and your boyfriend...do I have to kill him?"

She laughed and it made me forget that she had a boyfriend. I quickly put her face into my hands and went in for the kiss. She was shaking. The moment my lips hit hers she let out a gentle, innocent moan. Her lips were soft and barely pressed against mine. When our kiss ended her eyes were still tightly closed. I kissed her left eyelid and her eyes jolted open.
"I have to go home."
"No you don't Amber."
"Yeah I do."

Her eyes had a gleam in them, a fraction of hope but at the same time they held fear. She believed the kiss was her cheating on her deadbeat boyfriend. The silence was so horrible, it was deafening. Deafening only becuase of the pain it caused me to hear absoloutley nothing escape her lips but a mere sigh. I knew better than to fight her. She was fragile and the last thing I wanted to do was trip her wire and hurt her.
"Can I drive you home?"
