Blurring the Lines of Right and Wrong
Part One

"Billie, we'll get in trouble." Adrienne said. "What if Mom and Dad find out?"

"They won't." Billie promised. "The door's locked and they're upstairs and we're always quiet." He watched his sister bite her lip, then gently leaned in and kissed her. "I promise, they won't, okay? I always take care of you, don't I?"

She nodded, her dark hair falling in her eyes as Billie hooked his arm under her knees, making her fall onto her back. "I-I love you, Billie."

"I love you too." Billie murmured, his lips pressing against hers. She didn't hesitate this time, opening her mouth to him and bringing her arms up around his neck.

It wasn’t until later, when Billie was pushing into her that the tears threatened to fall from her eyes . . . like they did every time. And Billie kissed her softly, murmuring those three magically cliché words . . . like he did every time.

And Adrienne nodded, giving a breathy gasp when Billie started to move inside of her. She always managed to forget for the time he was inside of her how guilty she felt and how guilty she should feel and didn’t.

Later, when Billie and her were lying on his bed, Billie smoking – a habit Adrienne detested – she asked the question they never talked about, but always wondered. “B-Billie?” He looked at her. “What’s going to happen to us? When we get older?”

Adrienne was older than Billie by ten months, but during moments like these it was hard to tell.

Billie looked at her for a moment, not saying anything and Adrienne was worried he was going to get angry at her again, like did the month before. They hadn’t talked to each other for a week and didn’t until she ran away from home. Billie found her under the bridge where they had first kissed. And then they had kissed again.

“Just don’t think about it, Adie.” It was her special nickname, no one could use it but him. “I’ll take care of you. I always do, remember?”

“But Billie—“

“Adie.” He cut her off, a hand coming up to touch her hair, still slightly damp from the love they had just made. “Don’t worry about it. Just don’t tell like we said we wouldn’t and there won’t be anything to worry about. We’ll figure it out later.”

“Billie?”

He sighed. “What?”

“I-I love you.”

He gave a small smile, kissing her lightly on the mouth. “I love you too, Adie. And I will forever.”

“No matter what?”

“No matter what.”
