Chapter One
P.O.V. - Steve's
What was that? I'm sure I heard him. I get up from my "hideout" in the bus bunks and stayed listening. There it was again. This time I really heard it. Yes. Bruce was struggling in his sleep again. I approeched him carefully, sitting on the bunk, softly shaking him.
"Bruce. Bruce."
"What?!" he opened his eyes, looking at my face confused.
"You were struggling in your sleep... I heard it a while ago... You ok man?"
"I guess..." he whispered, burrying his face in the pillow. I knew he wasn't gonna cry... or at least in front of me. But he was... No... He couldn't be scared, could he?
"Br-"
"I'm fine Steve, go back to bed."
I sighed. "Ok."
I stood away, back to my bunk, worried. It wasn't the first time I'd heard him whimper in his sleep. If only he knew how much I cared about him. After a while of silence, I heard the bus door being closed. He was out. Should I follow him? No... Maybe he needs some time alone.
"Fuck it. I'm going."
P.O.V. - Bruce's
I step outside the bus, taking a cigar to my mouth and pacing for a while. That nightmare was hunting me again. I told Steve I was fine, but he knew better. He knew I was lying. No matter how hard I tried, I could never let him know... About the nightmare... About my feelings for him... It was just weird... I still remember the first time I realised about how I felt. I was terrified. I mean, we both had a life, our wifes, a home...
"Are you ok?"
Steve was standing at the door, dressed with some jeans and shirt. The night wasn't very cold. I felt my eyes tracing every inch of his body and I thanked god for the darkness.
"Yes. I've told you Ste--"
He approached me and placed his hands on my shoulders, looking into my eyes. "I know that's not true, Bruce. And it's not the first time that happens..." he told me, sweetly "So, c'mon tell me what's wrong... Please."
"I-- I can't..."
"Why?" he stroked my cheek softly and I could feel his breath on my face, feeling how close we were. It was making me hard to lie.
"I-- It was just a nightmare. I was..."
"I won't let them hurt you, you know that... Neveragain." he pulled me to him, locking his arms around my waist as our lips touched for the first time... It felt wrong and yet, it was so right. Tears fell down my face as we got lost in that embrace...
