Revised and edited by Oli...x and Lozapher.

Notes: This is a re-post. Oli.. x was so nice to beta the whole fic for me and I took the opportunity to change a few details myself so don't be surprised if you find things slightly different than before. Furthermore, translations of the Japanese words have been added at the end of each chapter as well as some notes explaining stuff that might seem weird at first sight..

Special thanks to Mizu (you know why!), Oli..x and Loz for all the support and of course to everyone reading & reviewing!

Prologue

I raise the bottle containing the red liquid to my lips as I stand near the window of my city house, the thick curtains shield me from curious glances of any passer by.

I wonder what they would say if they could see inside my head. Inside my soul. How lonely I am.

Would they pity me? Would they think that I have failed as a person?

No, they wouldn't. They are all too blind to see beyond my success. And it is best that way.

---

When I was a little child I had this dream about a world where everything would be exactly the way I wanted it.

A lovely queen I would be, my palace an impressive old castle where I would reign over a magical forest full of fairies and unicorns. My subjects would be people as beautiful as statues full of modesty and pride. The sky would be bright-blue and the breeze would always hold a sweet melody.

So I decided to make my dream come true and worked hard my whole life to achieve that. I made myself deaf to all the people telling me that I was insane and never wavered a bit from my goal, until.

...until I met him.

He used to listen to me talking about my dream for hours and I found my complete happiness in his eyes. He became the king that would build up with me our magical-world.

But he chose the real world over mine and left me here alone to realize for the first time how lonely I was.

Everything changed when he left.

The castle became haunted and the forest died. The fairies lost their wings and the unicorns vanished. The sky went dark and my subjects became mourning widows. The wind became a howling noise so the melody was nothing more than a faint whisper.

And I became the moon rising every night high in the black sky knowing well that he is never to meet the sun again.

I scold myself for my pathetic thoughts and take another sip of the bottle. I am strong, I know who I am and I have chosen my way. He is just one of the unworthy unbelievers. There is no use thinking about him.

I turn my back to the window determined to return to my designs when the sound of a long-forgotten melody reaches my ears and I stop dead in my tracks.

'Regret'. (*)

I know that it can't be him but my heart beats frantically as I turn again to the window just in time to see a blond man in a black convertible drive away.

Could it be him? I ask myself desperate for an answer that I will probably never get.

Damn you, Camui. I sigh and slide to the ground taking the bottle of wine with me.

* The song 'Regret' belongs to Camui Gackt and Malice Mizer.
