Chapter 1- The Interview
The interviewer looked down at his notepad. One question left.
"This one's for Matt. So as we know, your fiance was your tour manager for a while. So, some of us were just wondering, who wears the pants in the relationship?"
Matt shifted his eyes side to side at his bandmates. A smirk shifted his features into a boyish grin. He gave a small laugh.
"That's hardly even a question. Val does whatever I say, whenever I say, however I say it."
The interviewer raised an eyebrow. He had figured that the very masculine vocalist would say something like that. He figured it was probably true, though the tone seemed to be bordering on controlling. Suddenly the lead guitarist piped in with a snicker,
"Who wouldn't listen to Matt. Shit, he says on your knees you do it, right that second! If you're a girl....or Johnny."
The rest of the boys burst out in laughter while Johnny looked down with a patient but knowing smile. The interviewer shook his head in good humor. He stood up and began to gather his belongings.
"Thank you gentlemen. I had a great evening. I hope you have a good show tonight."
He extended his hand to each man in turn, giving them each a gratuitous handshake. They all smiled and returned the favor, the rhythm guitarist and drummer pulling him into quick hugs. Each of the men went to get ready for the show. As Matt stepped into the bus to get his signature shades, he heard someone step in after him.
"Hey Sweetie."
Matt said as he pulled his fiance into a warm embrace. She smiled at him and shut the door to the bus locking it in the process.
"So, I heard what you said in the interview."
"What about what I said in the interview?.... What part did you hear?"
Matt quietly asked. Val smiled at Matt, sweetly, then quickly backhanded him without ever changing her expression. Suddenly her eyes narrowed and glistened with fire.
"Do you think that's funny, Matthew? Do you?"
She yelled into his face. Matt looked away, a red mark already formed on his cheek. His shoulders slumped automatically and he looked at the floor, suddenly looking more like a little boy than the dominant, masculine figure he showed to the rest of the world.
"I..Val...sweetie..."
He stammered the words out, looking at Val with pleading eyes. Her hand moved swiftly back to slap him across the other side of his face, leaving a small scratch along his jawline.
"What Matthew?"
"I...I'm sorry. You know I didn't mean it baby."
He reached out to her to pull her to him but she wouldn't budge.
"Damn right you didn't mean it! Bitch."
The word came out like poison. Her voice ringing true throughout the bus. Suddenly there was the sound of something dropping from farther back in the bus near the bunks. Val's head snapped towards the sound. Before Matt knew it his fiance was tearing down the hallway towards the bunks. She stopped in front of one. He swore he could hear someone's heart trying to escape their chest...maybe that was his own pounding in his ears. A soft growl rumbled deep in her throat. A surprised gasp escaped the lips of the unfortunate soul who grabbed the attention of the blonde female. Without a moment's hesitation she tore back the curtain to reveal a stunned Johnny trying to listen to his iPod in peace. She reached in and grabbed the bassist by the collar of his shirt, dragging him onto the floor from his bunk. No other emotion was portrayed except for a startled squeek.
"Johnathan..." she spoke softly, so soft it was almost inaudible, "GET OUT!!!!!!" She screamed at him causing his face to turn a shade whiter than it already was.
She threw him onto the floor and the bassist never stopped moving. He ran, stumbling over himself, to the door of the bus. He fumbled with the lock and ran out of the bus, leaving Matt alone to deal with his very very angry fiance. Suddenly, a watch alarm broke the silence. Matt practically jumped out of his skin and looked down at the culprit on his wrist. 8:00. He had to start getting ready for the show. Val walked back over to Matt. She gripped his wrist and brought it up to see the watch clearly.
"Almost showtime. I'll deal with you later."
Her voice was soft and low. Her eyes were icy fire. A shiver ran up his spine, part fear, part something else. The small, blonde female walked by him and out of the bus. He sighed and looked around the bus then walked out....leaving his signature shades on the table.
