Here I am, waiting to hold you....

Someday

PROLOGUE

Have you known someone for your entire life, done everything together, including love? It’s so amazing, isn’t it? Knowing that other person loved you as much as you did them…knowing they’d always be in your life to hold you, to kiss you, make all your problems dissipate.

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
til your singing eyes and fingers
drew me loving into your isle.
And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me,
Let me enfold you."
Here I am, here I am
waiting to hold you.

But then fate steps in between you and pushes the two of you far apart. You spend every night for years, laying in bed, missing them…missing their touch, their laugh, their smile. You wonder if they think about you at all, or if they’ve completely forgotten you and moved on. You wonder if they’re happy. But most of all, you wonder if you’ll ever see them again.

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning,
broken lovelorn on your rocks.
For you sang "Touch me not, touch me not,
Come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.

You miss that other person terribly. You cry yourself to sleep at night, wishing for the day to come when the two of you will finally be reunited. Your heart aches, because of the emptiness inside. Your spirit is broken, because the other person isn’t there to hold it together. Every night, you whisper “I love you” into the darkness surrounding you, hoping that they will hear your pledge in the night, wherever they may be.

Then you think, that’s stupid. They don’t remember me.

…or do they?

I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?
Here me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me,
Let me enfold you."

Here I am, Here I am, waiting to hold you.
