Fresh Start
Prolog
“Where are you going?” I looked at my mom tears in my eyes a duffle over each shoulder my purse tied to one of them and a suit case in my hand. “He kicked me out. I knew it was coming for some time now so I have a ticket out of here and once I get where I’m going I’ll figure out my next move.” I told her tears falling down my face and smearing my eye makeup. When I got home from work I had seen my step dad standing in the dining room anger written all over his face. He had yelled at me, made me cry, called me horrible names and then told me I had two hours to pack my things and get out of his house and never come back. Once I was down in my basement room I dialed my best friend and asked him if he could take me to the air port in Kansas City. While I was talking to him I was tossing everything I would have to have into my two large blue duffels and the large matching suit case. When I was done in my room I ran out to my van and retrieved my cds and tucked them all into their case neatly and the case into the space saved for it in my suit case before zipping it. After that I went up stairs, I had five minutes before the bastard would force me out of the house and I was determined to leave of my own free will. “I bought an open end ticket three months ago right after I had my passport re-newed.” “So you’re really going there?” I nodded and hugged her. Three minutes left and Greg just pulled up. “I love you, I’ll let you know what’s going on once I get it figured out.” My mom nodded and I hugged her one last time. “I love you too baby girl, I always will, and I’m sorry I put you thru this all these years.” The bastard appeared behind her and I glared at him. “I forgive you Momma, but I hate him, and one of these days he’ll get what he deserves.” He glared at me and I just smirked and turned to walk out the door dropping my house key and car key into my mom’s coat pocket. He can’t do anything with it, I bought it, licensed it, and titled it and my mom signed for me at the bank. If my mom wants my Escort she can have it. I climed into the front seat of Greg’s 87 ford pickup and he pulled out of the driveway. “I’ll miss you Kitty Kitty.” I smiled and looked at him. “I’ll miss you too Greggie.” Those were the only words we said to each other the entire three and a half hour drive south west to the city before he helped me out and put my bags on a dolly for me. We hugged good buy and I went into the cool airport alone.
