Epilogue
Eventually, Frank and I made it out of the house and called Dr. Grace. From there, it was straight to the hospital. We made it in time perfect timing. To wait three hours. Birthing really was a long process.
Alexandra Mira Way was born 8 lbs. on the dot. Dr. Grace took a picture of all of us. Mikey on one side of the bed, and Frank and I on the other. Even with our bruised up, dirty faces. Anna kept laughing at us, as tired as she was. She eventually fell asleep with Mikey sitting on the bed. We watched the babies in the nursery for awhile.
Frank's English improved with time, as well as his writing and reading. It took patience, listening to him spill his words and smush them together. Kind of like any other kid learning to speak. I was never ashamed of him again though. Even out in public when he held my hand. I just held back twice as hard.
After a month, a bill was passed that outlawed the creation of more Sub-Humans. It would be a way to let them die out in peace. It was like putting scotch tape on a bridge and hoping it would hold for a little while longer. New bills were already being proposed, and violence against the species doubled. I kept Frank in sight all the time when we went out.
More importantly, we were happy. I was happy with him, no matter how strange our relationship was. It wasn't homosexual and it wasn't cross-breeding. Not even "wrong" like people on TV said it was. It wasn't anything.
It was just love.
