Chapter 102

"Don't wait, Don't wait,
The road is now a sudden sea,
And suddenly, you're deep enough,
To lay your armor down."

"Hey," Carrie greeted with a smile as Kelly walked into her house. "How'd the photo shoot go?"
"It was good," Kelly nodded.
"Do you want something to drink or anything?" Carrie asked as they walked into the living room.
"Um, no I can't stay long," she shook her head.
Carrie stopped herself in midair as she was about to sit, "What's up?"
"Um, what are you doing the last two weeks of June?"
"Uh, well, I'm booked solid the third week, but the last one I actually have off, why?"
"You remember a while back at the banquet when I said I'd have to take you to France the next time we went?"
"Yea?"
"Well, I'm going, so I wanted to know if you wanted to come too."
"Seriously?"
Kelly nodded.
"Yea, I'd love to," Carrie smiled. "So I mean, is this just us, or what?"
"Huh? No, no, it's a whole group of us."
"Oh."
"So, you're gonna come?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded. "Thanks for the invite."
"Of course."
"Is that...um, that's what you didn't want to say over the phone?"
Kelly shifted on her feet, looking down at the ground nervously, "Were you being serious?"
"When?"
"You know when. Were you being serious?"
"Yes," Carrie admitted softly.
Kelly nodded, "I gotta go."
"Kell..."
Kelly gave her a small smile as she took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze as she kissed her cheek before turning away.
Carrie looked down at the folded up sticky note Kelly had placed in her hand. Her heart dropped as she unfolded, not really wanting to read it.
Do you like me?
Do you want to be my girlfriend?
If you do, then do be afraid to kiss me,
Just 'cause you want to.
I think this is how love goes:
[kc] Yes
[__] No
"Kelly?" Carrie questioned carefully.
Kelly paused.
"Kell..."
Kelly turned around with a small smile, her eyes dancing.
"Are you being serious?"
"Dead," she nodded, her stomach turning nervously.
Carrie reached out, pulling her back, kissing her firmly. Kelly breathed in deeply, wrapping her arms around the taller girl's neck, pulling them close together, her heart racing as Carrie's lips moved with hers.
Carrie ran a hand through the Texan's hair, pulling back with a giggle.
Kelly beamed, her eyes glancing back and forth between the country singer's eyes and lips.
"So that's what it feels like to kiss just for the sake of kissing, huh?" Carrie asked slightly breathless.
"Guess so," Kelly nodded.
"I could definitely get used to this," Carrie smiled widely.
"Definitely," Kelly agreed, kissing her again.

"I drew a really thin line,
Its nothing I planned,
And not that I can,
But you should be mine,
Across that line."

"So..." Carrie pulled back with a smile.
"You're totally giddy right now," Kelly pointed out, bouncing on her toes.
"Look who's talking."
"Well, it's not everyday I get to say I'm dating the hottest vegan on the planet."
Carrie laughed, wrapping her arms around her.
Kelly leaned up, kissing her once more.
"So, this is for real, right?" Carrie asked softly as they broke apart.
"Yea," Kelly nodded.
"Are you sure? I mean, have you thought about it...about everything?"
"Yea."
"And?"
"I wanna be with you," she shrugged simply.
"What about what people--"
"Care," Kelly interrupted with a light smile. "Let's enjoy this for a while, alright? The world can wait."
"Yea?"
"Yea."
"Good...I like enjoying you."
Kelly giggled as Carrie pressed their lips together, hugging her tightly.

"You're my girlfriend," Carrie pointed out with a grin.
Kelly smiled, leaning forward to kiss her as they sat indian style on the sofa, facing each other while sharing a vegan pizza. "I have to warn you though: I am a crappy girlfriend."
"Some how I seriously doubt that," Carrie replied.
"No, trust me. I have references. Ask the guys I've dated."
"And you know, for some reason, I just don't trust their judgement. I mean, they let you get away didn't they? So, they obviously weren't very smart."
Kelly smiled again as she leaned forward, kissing her once more, "I like this."
"This?"
"Being with you. No longer having to worry where we stand."
"I like it too," Carrie nodded. "You're staying here tonight?"
"Is that code for you wanna get in my pants?" Kelly teased.
"Yes."
Kelly laughed loudly.
Carrie smiled, "Or maybe I just want to know what it feels like to hold my girlfriend all night long."
Kelly's heart melted, "I'll gladly stay with you tonight."
"You know, I thought I'd be more freaked out by this."
"Me too."
"But I'm not."
"Me either," she replied. "Although there is something I should tell you."
"What? I've seen you naked. I know you're not a man or anything."
Kelly cocked her head to the side, studying her with a soft smile.
"What?"
"Nothing, I just love the fact that you're such a dork with me."
Carrie shrugged, "We've talked about it before. The press and the people out there...they have their opinion of me. That's fine. I know who I am. My close family and friends know who I am. You know who I am. Who cares about the rest?"
"Ashley knows," Kelly said carefully.
"Ashley knows what? That I'm a nerd?"
Kelly shook her head, pointing to the two of them.
"That we're dating?" Carrie's voice squeaked.
"Um, no, that we're sleeping together."
"I...but how?"
"I don't know. She just figured it out. She asked me about it earlier at the photo shoot."
Carrie sighed, rubbing her forehead.
"I'm sorry," Kelly quickly apologized. "I really don't know how she found out, but I swear she's not going to tell anyone. I just...I couldn't lie to her."
"No, Kell, I know," Carrie replied, pulling her closer and kissing her forehead. "I'm not mad that she knows. I'm sorry. You just caught me off guard, that's all."
"You sure you're not mad?" she looked at her worriedly.
"I promise I'm not mad," she smiled.
"Good," Kelly let out a sigh of relief as Carrie pulled her onto her lap. She rested her head against the country singer's shoulder.
"Do you want to tell people, though?" Carrie asked curiously.
"I think it depends on the person...if it's ok with you, I'd like to tell Jill and Kate. It's just that I was talking to them earlier about us, just not really explaining the you part of us, and I think I should tell them."
Carrie nodded.
"What about you? Anybody you wanna tell?"
"I think we should tell our families," Carrie said honestly. "I don't like lying to my family."
Kelly kissed her cheek, "You are perfect, you know that?"
Carrie rubbed her back, "It's a big step."
"What do you think they'll say?"
"I think the first question will be how real it is, you know, how committed we are. Technically we've only been dating a couple hours."
"But really, we've been together for a while now. I mean, I'm in this for real, Care. You know this isn't something I'd take lightly."
"I know," she assured her. "But my family doesn't know you like I do, just like your family doesn't know me like you do."
"You think we should wait, then?"
"You tell Jill and Kate," Carrie nodded. "I want to tell one of my sisters. I've always told her everything. After that...I don't think we should wait, I just don't think we should rush it either. Just give ourselves a bit to get used to everything, you know? We'll wait for the right time to tell everybody else."
Kelly smiled, "Sounds good."
"But I mean it, this is a big step, Kell. Things just seemed to happen almost naturally for us, you know? I can't help but wonder if maybe it's been too easy."
"Yea."
"I just hope everyone else can see how right this is."
"If not, we'll make them," Kelly nodded surely.
Carrie smiled, kissing her lightly.
