Chapter 103

And like a bullet

We were gone again."

Carrie lay with her head resting on her arm as she watched the Texan sleep. Her hair was all a mess, and the blankets were pulled tightly around her. Her lips held the softest of smiles as the sun slowly lightened the room behind her. Carrie reached out, carefully running a hand over her bare shoulder and down her arm. Kelly's nose scrunched cutely, and Carrie smiled. The shorter girl seemed so unbelievably innocent in that moment.

Carrie stretched slowly, feeling the scratch marks on her back that remained from earlier. Her smile widened--well maybe she wasn't that innocent. But she was sure as hell glad that she was the only one that got to see both extremes of the bubbly singer. She reached out again, brushing her bangs out of her face.

Kelly's eyes slowly opened to look at her. She placed a hand on Carrie's face, pushing her away playfully.

"What?" Carrie laughed.

"Don't tell me you're gonna be one of those people that like to watch me in my sleep," she mumbled with a smile, snuggling into the sheets.

"You're adorable when you sleep."

Kelly raised an eyebrow, "Are you drunk?"

"I haven't gotten out of bed yet," she smiled.

"Still on a high from last night," Kelly wiggled her eyebrows as she wrapped her arms around the country singer's bare waist, pulling her closer.

"Still sore from last night."

Kelly smiled, "Ok, I totally claimed last time as being my fault. I even bought you a new picture frame, but this one was all on you."

"I can't help it," Carrie laughed softly, trailing a hand down Kelly's back. "When I want you, I really want you, and last night I really wanted you."

"What about now?" Kelly asked curiously.

"Ok, let me correct my previous statement. I always want you, so I always really want you, so yes, I really want you now."

Kelly laughed, "Yea?"

Carrie nodded.

"Well, then I guess it's just too bad that I have a meeting to be at in an hour and a half and I need to get ready because I can't be late for it."

Carrie's jaw dropped, "So that's how it is, huh? I feel so used."

"You don't feel used," Kelly shook her head.

"No?"

"No, because if you hurry up and get up, I'll let you take a shower with me...I mean, that is something that a girlfriend would do, right?"

Carrie beamed, "I think that's exactly the kind of a thing a girlfriend would do."

"Ok, just making sure I'm up to date with all the rules and stuff," she smiled playfully.

"You are the best girlfriend ever," Carrie grinned excitedly.

Skin has gotten thicker but it burns the same.

Still a baby in a cradle got to take my first fall."

Kelly hurried out the front door at the sound of Ashley honking the horn. "Hey," she smiled, hopping into the vehicle.

"Ready to go?" Ashley asked, pulling out onto the road.

"Yep. Am I late?"

"Nah, Jason told you that you had to be ready a half an hour earlier than you actually did."

"What did he do that for?"

"Because this is an important meeting, and we all know how much you suck at waking up in the morning. So, what took you so long?"

"Taking a shower," Kelly shrugged.

"Am I allowed to ask who was in the shower? Or are you still a little unnerved about me knowing?"

Kelly blushed.

Ashley laughed, "And that totally answers my question. So, I take it, you've figured everything out, then?"

"Carrie's my girlfriend."

"What?!" Ashley hit the brakes hard.

"Damn it, Ash," Kelly cursed, bracing herself against the dashboard. "What the heck was that for?"

"Y'all are dating?" Ashley's eyes were wide as she turned to her.

"You do realize that we are parked in the middle of the road, right?"

"It's a gated community," Ashley pointed out. "Y'all are seriously dating?"

"Um, well, yea," Kelly looked at her nervously. "I thought you said you didn't have a problem with it."

"No, no, Kelly, I don't, don't worry," Ashley quickly assured her. "You just surprised me, that's all. I mean, that's a big step, you know?"

"Well, I told you how I feel about her."

"I know, but this is different than you liking a guy. I mean, this is very different."

"I know. It's just..."

"Just what?"

"You know I wouldn't even think of doing something like this unless she really meant something to me."

"You're still freaked out about it all?"

"About what?"

"Carrie being a girl."

Kelly smiled, "I actually kinda got over that a while back. I was just freaked yesterday because she asked me out, and I mean, that's serious, you know?"

"And we all know how much you suck at relationships getting serious."

"Relationships in general," Kelly agreed. "And I think her asking me that forced me to think about it all, and how much she really does mean to me, and that scared the crap out of me."

"But you're ok now?"

"Her meaning so much to me still scares the crap out of me, but it just feels so right--that's the only way I can think of to describe it."

Ashley smiled, "I think my girl is growing up."

"Oh, shut up and drive," Kelly laughed.
