"For the life of me,
I cannot remember
What made us think
That we were wise and,
We'd never compromise."

Kelly sat, chewing on her nails as she watched t.v.
"What's on your mind, rock star?" Ashley laughed, watching her.
"The cowgirl."
"Haven't heard from her yet today?"
"Wha-what if she told her sister, and her sister completely flipped and convinced her she made a mistake? What if...what if she won't want to speak to me again? I mean, it's her sister. She's known her forever. We've just been together for a few months. Shanna totally has the edge on this."
"True," Ashley nodded. "Or maybe she's just hanging out with her sister and hasn't gotten enough privacy yet to be able to call you."
"You think?"
"Relax. Everything will be fine."
"Yea?"
"She's not going anywhere. And even if she does, you totally have the money to hire someone to hunt her down."
Kelly laughed softly.

"So..." Carrie sat down next to her sister on her couch.
Shanna smiled, "I know that face. It's your 'I'm about to share a secret' face...Who's the guy?"
"I'm not about to tell you a secret," Carrie gave a short laugh. "Just wanted to know if you enjoyed lunch yesterday."
"So there is a secret, then?"
Carrie rolled her eyes, hoping that her sister couldn't hear her heart that was echoing in her ears.
"Ok, ok, I'll let up...for now. And yes, I did enjoy the lunch yesterday. The girls seemed like a lot of fun, and Kelly was really sweet."
"Yea," Carrie nodded. "So you like her?"
"Yea," Shanna shrugged. "I like her."
Carrie fiddled with her hands, nervously.
"So, now you're gonna tell me the secret?"
Carrie sighed, nodding.
"Wow. Must be a pretty big secret if you're nervous to tell me. You're usually blabbing it out as soon as I get off the plane."
"I, um, I..." Carrie swallowed hard, her brow furrowing. "I don't know how to tell you this."
"Carrie, what's wrong?" Shanna asked worriedly, turning to face her. "Are you ok? The doctors, did they--"
"It's not about that," she shook her head. "I'm fine. Actually, I'm more than fine...I'm really amazing, right now."
"Then why are you so upset?"
"I don't want you to hate me."
"I could never hate you," Shanna said gently.
"I'm glad you like Kelly."
"Don't change the subject."
"It's a good thing you like her," Carrie nodded.
Shanna sighed, reaching out and tucking a blonde curl behind her sister's ear, "Ok, I give. Why is it a good thing that I like her?"
"Because I'm dating her."
Shanna froze.
Carrie looked up at her nervously, "Say something."
"I, uh," she shook her head. "I don't know what to say."
"We've been together for a few months now," Carrie started to explain, but Shanna put a hand up.
"Please don't."
"You hate me."
"I just...I don't understand. How could this happen?"
"You sound like it's some tragedy."
Shanna frowned.
"We, um, we just started hanging out, and we really hit it off. We got really close pretty fast. It was a little weird, definitely scary, but it's funny because now I can't imagine not having her in my life."
"I think this is a mistake," Shanna said carefully. "I know this may be the trend in Hollywood now, but Carrie you have to know that this can't end well."
"I'm not doing this because of some trend, "Carrie replied, clearly hurt. "I can't believe you would even think that about me."
"Well, what am I supposed to think?"
"I really like her," Carrie said with tears in her eyes.
"Are y'all sleeping together?"
Carrie closed her eyes, her head hanging.
Shanna nodded, "I can't believe you would lie to me about something this big, and I can't believe you didn't come to me after your first time. You always told me you would come to me first when you thought you were ready and you had finally found someone."
"When we...the first time...I didn't know. I had been trying to so hard to figure out what was going on. Both of us were. We may have had a little too much to drink that night."
"You were drunk?" Shanna asked in disbelief. "Great, Carrie. That's just great. So not only was your first time with a girl, but you were probably too wasted to even remember it."
"No, I remember it. And I surely don't regret Kelly being my first either if that's what you're about to say."
Shanna frowned, suddenly looking very tired, "I just want what's best for you."
"Kelly's what's best for me."
"No she's not."
"Why not?"
"Because she's a girl."
"What does that have to do with it?"
"That has to do with everything. You are making a huge mistake by doing this."
"She's not a mistake," Carrie shook her head.
Shanna took a deep breath, "I think we both need some time to think about this. I'm gonna...I'm gonna go lay down for a while."
Carrie nodded, watching her sister walk out of the room.

"I'm wrecking this evening already
And loving every minute of it.
Ruining this banquet for the mildly inspiring."

Kelly took out her phone at the sound of it vibrating. She smiled at the sight of a new text from Carrie, opening it.
I need you.
Kelly frowned, shaking her head as she went to get into the car with Ashley.
"What's wrong?" Ashley asked.
"I'm sorry. I've got to go see Care."
"Is everything ok?"
"I don't know."
Ashley nodded, tossing her the car keys, "We'll take a rain check on shopping. Go see her."
"Thanks."

Kelly let herself into the house with her key, walking around the downstairs before finding Carrie in the kitchen. "Sweetie?" she asked worriedly, pulling her into a hug.
"I'm sorry," Carrie replied, hugging her back. "I was just...things didn't go too well with my sister."
"I'm sorry," Kelly rubbed her back comfortingly.
"She thinks I'm making a mistake."
"Do you?" Kelly asked nervously, pulling back to look at her.
"No."
Kelly smiled as she reached forward, kissing her softly.
Carrie sniffed as she felt her eyes stinging.
"Shh..." Kelly soothed, gently wiping her tears away. "It's gonna be ok."
"I don't want her to hate me."
"She's your sister. She doesn't hate you. She probably just doesn't understand."
Carrie nodded, her eyes tearing up again.
Kelly kissed her once more. "It's gonna be ok," she whispered, her hands placed lightly on the country singer's hips as their foreheads rested together. "It's gonna be ok. You've been with me through so much. No matter what happens, I'm gonna be with you through this."
"Promise?" Carrie asked softly, her eyes closed.
"I promise."
Carrie tilted her head down, capturing the Texan's lips in her own. She felt herself relax at the feeling of Kelly's bottom lip in between her own as she sucked on it gently. Kelly gave her hips a gentle squeeze as she cocked her head to the side just a bit to be able to kiss her better.
"You..."
Kelly froze at the sound of someone very upset entering the kitchen.
"Don't touch her."
Kelly pulled back, pushing Carrie behind her, "Hey Shanna."
"Kell..." Carrie grabbed her arm.
"How could you do this to her?" Shanna asked.
"I didn't do anything to her," Kelly countered.
"Kell," Carrie tried to pull her back.
"Care, let me handle this."
"You took advantage of her," Shanna accused.
"I did no such thing."
"She was drunk, and you took advantage of that. You had no right to do that."
"If you're referring to the night I think you're referring to, we were both drunk."
"Yes, but unlike you, my sister doesn't get wasted and sleep with the nearest person around."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Kelly asked defensively.
"How would you feel if your baby sister's first time was when she was drunk with some gay whore?"
"Shanna!" Carrie fussed.
Kelly looked at the eldest Underwood, confused, "That wasn't Carrie's first time. Trust me...I was there."
"You were drunk," Shanna reminded. "I'm sure your memory's a little cloudy."
"That wasn't the only time, and it only got better when we were sober."
Shanna looked over the short Texan's shoulder to Carrie, "It's funny. For being in a relationship, y'all don't talk too much, do you?"
"I'm sorry," Carrie whispered behind Kelly's ear.
Kelly reached back, taking Carrie's hand in her own, "What does it matter that I was her first time, anyway? That still doesn't lessen the fact that we're together now. It doesn't change anything."
"You are wrong for this," Shanna pointed at her. "And you're wrong for dragging my sister into this. You're going to ruin everything that she's worked for."
"I would never do that," Kelly replied, her voice coming out harsh.
Shanna shook her head, "You're both making a huge mistake."
"Shanna..." Carrie protested as she turned to walk out.
"I'm sorry Carrie," she frowned. "Don't worry. You're secret's safe with me, but I...I can't go along with this. I'm gonna go."
Carrie closed her eyes, and Kelly turned quickly to catch her as she folded into her.
"I'm so sorry," Kelly kissed her forehead.
