The Perfect Guy
Chapter 11
“so how was the business trip” Michael asked as he took her bag from her when she came into the door
“It was good” she said kissing him on the cheek.
She was dreading the point when she was going to have to tell him that she now had another job and that job had to deal with Jordan.
“What is it” he asked her vacant expression
“Nothing” she said with a smile just tired.
She unpacked her suitcase and got back to normal life. The next day they were experiencing a rare evening together and she decided that she better tell him.
“Guess what?” she said enthuasitcally
“what?” he said with raised eyebrows
She took a deep breath “I got a second job” she said with a smile
“What?” he asked surprised “How did you do that?”
“Well you know I went to Jordan’s show two weeks ago” she said trying to hide the shake in her voice
“Yeah” he said stifly and she recognized his strained tone
“well they ran into some problems before the show and I helped out” she paused to watch his reaction. She knew how good he was at sniffing out a lie and she was trying to keep to the truth as much as possible. When he didn’t hit the roof she continued “well Chad, Jordan’s manager thought I did such a good job he wanted me to help out with the tour this year” she finished in a rush.
He sighed “So basically they going to pay you to lust after Jordan now” he said sarcastically
“No” she said as her temper flared “they are going to pay me to run the shows” she said as she pushed up from the chair “and I can still keep my regular job so it will be extra money” she added slamming around angrily “and I really enjoy it so I am doing it” she said defiantly
“Well then why did you bother telling me” he said getting mad himself
“Because I will have to travel a lot and I thought you might miss me when I didn’t show up after work” she snapped
He laughed angrily “Ok, Ok look” He said putting his hands up “If this is something you want to do then do it” he turned away “Just don’t cry to me when he gives you a disease” he mumbled as he walked off.
She didn’t respond even though the comment made her furious. He hasn’t given me one yet she though with a satisfying smirk. She guessed that his reaction could have been worse and decided not to push her luck.
When she was cleaning up from dinner he came up behind her and put his arms around her waist.
“I am sorry I got so mad” he said lightly at her ear.
She angle her head at him. It was the closest he had been to her in weeks and for some reason it made her nervous. “Its ok, I figured you would be” she put down the pot she was washing and turned around to him “I just really enjoyed it” she paused “not because of him, just the work in general” she said looking him straight in the eye. It wasn’t a lie. She meant it, she really had enjoyed what she did.
He sighed “well if you like it and you don’t loose your regular job over it then I don’t really see the big deal” he said lightly
“Good” she said and put her hands on his shoulders. She leaned up to kiss his cheek and he shifted and she got his lips. Guilt tore through her when she was surprised. She shouldn’t be this was her husband.
He smiled at her and she knew where this was going but felt like she couldn’t really stop it. She had been making every excuse in the book not to be with him since she had been with Jordan and they were running out. She closed her eyes as he leaned in and kissed her again. She wanted to cry when that old familiar desire never even rose to the surface. His kissing her did nothing for her any more. She let it progress to where she knew it would but got no enjoyment out of it. She acted through the entire process while forcing back thoughts of Jordan then entire time. What did that say about her? She wasn’t sure and didn’t have the strength to contemplate it at the moment. After it was over she got up and showered. He questioned it because she almost never did that.
“Trying to get a jump on in the morning” she said matter of factly “I have to get an early start and I don’t want to be bothered with it”
He laughed “Ok well I will be in bed” he said as he closed the door
Emotions flooded her. She couldn’t take it. She cried as the water ran over her. She felt dirty, she felt guilty. She felt so much she thought her chest would rip open from the shear emotion. She cleaned off and stalled hoping he would already be asleep when she got to bed. To her luck he was and she slid in beside him. She sighed when he curled around her. It wasn’t comforting in the least bit and the thought absolutely terrified her.
Three weeks went by with no word or contact from Chad or Jordan. She was beginning to wonder if they were ever going to call her back.
The day after Thanksgiving she was shopping with her sister and mother when her cell phone rang.
“Hey girl” Jordan said brightly
“oh god hey how are you” she grinned and her sister shot her a suspious look
“Was wondering if we could get together the week before Christmas” he said with a smile to his voice
“Yeah sure no problem” she said with a laugh “you just need to tell me when and where”
“How about December the 20th in Florida” he said brightly
“Sure just let me know how to get where I am going and I will meet you there” she said
“Ok I will get Chad to email you the directions” he paused “if you want to drive that is” he added
“Yeah I think I will, I have had my fill of flying this year” she said with a laugh
“Ok well he will email you sometime this week” he said
“good well I will talk to you then I guess” she said lightly
“Yeah I can’t wait” he laughed
She hung up and couldn’t hide her grin.
“Your not fooling anyone you know” her sister said with a raised eyebrow
“I’m not trying to” she said with a smirk as they continued their shopping.
