You stir in your sleep and reach out to wrap your arm around him, but find only emptiness.
Slowly, you open your eyes and see he’s not there. Sitting up, you scan the room, but there’s no sign of him there or in the bathroom. You’re heart start to sink.
No, he wouldn’t have done that to me again. It’s not possible. You think as you put on some clothes and wash your face quickly.
You feel your body relax as you hear his voice in the kitchen. Who is he talking to? You wonder as you pad across the room and into the kitchen.
You stop to admire the scene before you.
Gerry is sitting on a chair by the kitchen counter with Erik on his lap and feeding him morning cereals. You face light up as you watch him play with his son while he gives him breakfast.
As soon as he spots you a huge smile spread across his face and he motions for you to come sit beside him.
You do so, sitting beside him on the opposite side if the one he has Erik.
“Good morning love.” He says as you lean forward and place a soft kiss on his lips.
“Good morning.” You smile while kissing your son on the cheek.
“I thought you had left again.” You say quietly after a few moments.
His head fly to the side to look at you and you can see the concern in his eyes.
“I’m sorry. He woke up and went to your room saying he was hungry. I was already awake, so I thought I’d give him something to eat. I didn’t mean to leave you.” He says taking your hand with his free one and keeping the other wrapped around Erik’s waist.
“It’s ok. I over reacted. I’m sorry.” You answer looking in his eyes and placing your hand on the back of his neck.
“I wanted to talk to you about this… I’m really sorry. I do hope you’ll forgive me for the jerk I was back then. I promise I’ll be a complete different man from now on… and I’m not just saying it.”
“I don’t have to forgive you… I never did. You did something wonderful for me that night.”
You see the confused look he has on his face and complete your sentence.
“You gave me the most beautiful gift any man could ever give me. This one that is right here on your lap with milk dripping down his chin.” You laugh tickling Erik’s belly.
Gerry’s eyes never leave you face and he places his hand under your chin to make you look at him. When you do, he leans forward and captures your lips with his. Somehow you know that kiss sealed your destiny. No matter what happens, you’re his now… and nothing will ever change that.
