Chapter 123

++++++++++

"I don't believe that anybody

Feels the way I do about you now."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Is everything ok?" Kelly asked as she snuggled into Carrie's side in bed.
"Yea, of course," Carrie kissed the top of her head.
"You sure?"
"Yea, why?"
"I thought we were supposed to be getting it on right about now," Kelly shrugged.
Carrie laughed softly, kissing her again, "I'm sorry."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I guess, I'm just a little tense about Shanna being here."
"Care, you invited her."
"I know, but I didn't think she was going to be like this."
"Be like what?" Kelly looked up at her curiously. "I think she's been extremely reasonable so far."
"She just...she worries too much, sometimes."
"It's just cause she loves you," Kelly's fingers grazed the side of the country singer's neck.
Carrie smiled.
Kelly reached up, pressing their lips together lightly.
Carrie's smile widened, "So what time is the shoot tomorrow?"
"I think we're starting at ten."
"Starting the shoot or starting to get ready?"
"Starting the shoot."
"Ew...so you have to be up early."
"Yea," Kelly wrinkled her nose.
"So we don't get to have hot sex all night and lay in bed all day?"
"That was totally your plan, huh?"
"Yep."
Kelly laughed softly, "Well, how about this: you let me get some sleep right now, and I let you sleep late tomorrow morning, and I make sure there's a nice breakfast ready for both you and your sister, and then I'll have Jay take y'all out to town so y'all can go shop and hang out for a bit, and hopefully by the time you get back, I'll be done with the shoot, and you can come join me at the pond, and we can go swimming or something? Does that sound good?"
"Hmm...hanging with my girlfriend while she's in a bikini..."
"Who said anything about a bikini?" Kelly smirked.
Carrie's eyes lit up, "Girl...you better not be teasing me."
"I'd never tease you like that," Kelly promised, kissing her.
"Ok, shh...no more kissing...bed time," Carrie wrapped her arms around her tightly.
"What? Why?"
"The sooner we go to bed, the sooner we get up, and the sooner we get up, the sooner I get to see you naked."
Kelly laughed.
Carrie smiled broadly, "You're laugh is amazing, by the way."
Kelly kissed her neck, "Get some sleep. Trust me, you'll need your energy."
"Yes..." Carrie cheered quietly.
"Sometimes being happy
Can be self-destructive."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kelly smiled at the feeling of Carrie standing behind her, wrapping her arms around her as she stood in front of the mirror in a towel, drying her hair, "Hey you. I didn't wake you up, did I?"

Carrie shook her head, kissing her shoulder.

"You slept good?"

She nodded, resting her cheek where she had just kissed.

Kelly turned, kissing her forehead, "Can I ask you something?"

Carrie nodded again, holding her closer, her eyes closing.

"So, I don't know what made me think about this just now, but I was wondering how you've been feeling lately."

"What do you mean?" Carrie stood up straight.

"I mean, something was wrong for a while there, and I just wanted to make sure you finally had time to rest and get it out of your system."

Carrie smiled as Kelly turned in her arms to face her, "I've been feeling great."

"Good," Kelly's smile mirrored the country singer's as she pushed up on her toes to kiss her. She playfully hit Carrie's hand away as she reached for the Texan's towel. "And what do you think you're doing?"

"Hoping to get a preview of later?"

Kelly laughed, kissing her again, "I wish, but I really need to start getting ready for the shoot, but I promise that I am all yours this afternoon."

Carrie felt her heart jump excitedly as she pressed their lips together firmly.

"Here," Carrie placed a plate of breakfast down loudly in front of her sister at the snack bar. "It's vegan."

"That's fine," Shanna nodded, watching her cautiously. "They don't have a problem cooking it for you?"

"No, Ashley's actually really good at it," she replied, bringing her own plate to the sink.

"You're done?"

"I was up early with Kelly. I gotta go do some stuff for work, so why don't you come get me in Kelly's room when you're ready to head out."

"Ok, sure," Shanna agreed, watching her walk out of the dining room.

"This place seems cute," Shanna smiled as they walked into an ice cream shop.

Jason and Carrie froze at the door.

"I, uh...I'm gonna wait outside," Jason nodded.

Carrie took a shaky breath, patting his arm as she followed her sister inside.

"What's wrong? You two act like you've seen a ghost or something," Shanna teased.

"We...we took Alex here," Carrie replied, her voice strained.

"Carrie, I'm sorry," Shanna shook her head. "Look, let's go somewhere's else."

"It's fine. Let's just get some ice cream."

Shanna studied her carefully, "I wasn't going to tell her, you know."

Carrie frowned.

"That's why you've been pissy with me all day, isn't it? Carrie, I promise, I wasn't going to say anything."

"That's not what it sounded like," Carrie folded her arms as she looked over all the different flavors of ice cream, not even sure why she was bothering when she couldn't have any of them.

"Carrie, come on. I made you a promise to keep quiet. You know I keep my promises."

Carrie sighed, "Nearly breaking down about me being fragile isn't keeping your promise."

"I just...she should know."

"I'm not losing her over something that's over with."

"Why would she freak out if it's over with? And even if it wasn't over with, if she really cared about you, she'd be there for you...she'd want to be there for you, and you denying her that is only going to hurt her."

"You don't know her," Carrie shook her head.

"I know my sister deserves someone who isn't going to run at the first sign of trouble."

"First sign?" Carrie turned to her. "First sign? Do you have any idea what she's been through the past few months? No, you don't...I just don't want to have to add to that strain for something as insignificant as this."

"This isn't insignificant," Shanna said firmly.

"It is," Carrie replied. "And I love you for worrying about me, and I love you even more for trying to look after my relationship with Kelly, but this is something that needs to be dropped...now."

"Just look me in the eye, and promise me...promise me, Carrie, that it's really over with," Shanna looked at her worriedly. "Promise me you're ok."

"I promise," Carrie nodded.

Shanna wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into a half hug. She kissed the top of her head, "I just want you to be safe and happy...that's all."

"I know," Carrie nodded, hugging her back. "And I am...I promise."
