Family Tradition
Reception Follies Pt 1
A/N: Okay, so thank you all sooooo much for reading and reviewing! I love you all! Hopefully my plot bunnies won't run off into hibernation again any time soon, because I have some very broad ideas for the storyline. Also there is a present at the end of the chapter (along with a smile-worthy twist). So, without any more ado, here's the newest chapter. ENJOY!! *hugs*

“Marla, that was gorgeous. You look so great. I’m so happy for you! It was such a great service.”
Rebecca laughed as she hugged her old friend. She smiled as she stepped back from her friend, her hand taking Patrick’s, a bit of a plot in her head. She saw Marla notice Patrick and grinned as she turned her attention to the guy at Rebecca’s side.
“And who is this, Becca? You didn’t tell me about a guy.”
Before Rebecca could answer with more than a small laugh, she was a little shocked to see Patrick hold out his hand to Marla, introducing himself with a bit of a smirk on his face.
“I’m Patrick, Rebecca’s boyfriend. Nice to meet you. And may I say, it was a lovely wedding. Best of luck to you and your husband.”
Rebecca managed to keep a straight face, although she was a bit shocked that Patrick would do such a thing, as she had never known him to joke with strangers before. Normally he barely spoke two words together, much less what he had said to Marla, including a little joking.
“Patrick, this is Marla Thadis, I suppose, right? One of my closest childhood friends, we used to be neighbors and sneak off to each other’s houses as kids. Don’t talk to her too long or she might try to tell slanderous lies about me as a kid.”
Rebecca laughed as she joked with her old friend. She glanced around the room taking in all the decorations that filled the room. It was great. Although she didn’t notice someone else approaching until she heard a familiar voice.
“Hey hon, who do we have here? More family that I managed to keep from meeting, or friends?”
“Oh, Henry there you are. I want you to meet one of my oldest friends as a kid, Rebecca Wentz, and this is Patrick.”
Rebecca turned her attention quickly back to her friend and someone she had never thought to meet again. She smiled slightly, as it was to be expected, watching as Jacob shook hands with Patrick then turned his attention to her. She could see that he seemed to recognize her slightly.
“Nice to meet you, Patrick and Rebecca. ... I believe we’ve already met, have we not? I believe it was when you were dating my brother, Aiden, correct?”
Rebecca managed not to flinch at the mention of Aiden’s name. Instead she simply nodded, unconsciously moving closer to Patrick. She could see a similarity to Aiden even now, and it still scared her. Although from the looks of things, Jacob wasn’t harboring any hostilities against her, and she couldn’t help but be grateful for that. If for nothing but her old friend.
“Yes, I believe so. But I think I remembered you being introduced as Jacob. That was a few years ago though, so I can understand that people change. I didn’t know that you were the special guy that Marla was getting married to. Congratulations.”
Patrick must have felt the tension in Rebecca because he leaned over and whispered in her ear, loud enough for the newlyweds to hear. He lightly ran his hand around her waist, letting it rest on the small of her back.
“Reby, I think your mom wants something. Perhaps we should let the newlyweds greet their other guests. And you did promise me a dance for later.”
Rebecca nodded and smiled at her old friend and the man who was now Marla’s husband. They made their excuses and walked over to the table where her parents and Pete were sitting. She sat heavily down in the chair that Patrick held out for her, feeling like she would either burst into tears or run screaming from the room.
“Reby, what’s wrong? ..... The groom is involved with your nightmares isn’t he? The Aiden guy is the one who did that to you. Oh, Rebecca, I’m so sorry.”
Patrick took her hands in hers and began running his fingers over them lightly, kneeling in the floor beside her chair. She turned to look at him, and smiled at his kindness. She nodded in response to his deductions. Before either really knew what was happening, Patrick leaned up for a kiss, his hands moving to gently cup her face.
“Wow, Patrick. I never knew you had that in you.”
They quickly pulled apart at the sound of Pete’s voice from beside them. Rebecca didn’t know who was blushing more, Patrick or her. Pete laughed at the scene, walking over to Patrick and whispering something in his ear, which made Patrick blush even redder (if that was possible) and Pete laugh even harder.
“What did he say?”
“Apparently some people noticed our little scene. According to your brother, your friend might not only think we’re dating but ... engaged. Pete said it looked like a ... proposal.”

A/N: Okay, so I just thought that little bit of twist would be cute. Not to mention a cliff-hanger! (Don't worry, I'm working on the next chapter as I type this note up!)
Also, this is something new coming up! I love my readers and reviewers so much that I'm going to open a spot up in my fic to you guys! I'm going to be introducing a few new characters (namely the significant others of some of the other guys in the band - along with Patd as well, along with the possibility of some other bands). So, if you would like to be in the fic, let me know! If you want to be included, tell me: character name, brief appearance/personality, and top three pairings) You can either put it in the reviews or IM me on AIM (rowsawriter is my sn). *hugs and love to you all* Thanks!!!
