Chapter 12 - The police officer Hyde
A/N: Here's the next chapter, enjoy. I was a little quicker this time!
Chapter 12
Shinya was sitting in hospital's hallway's chair, worried sick about his best friend. He didn't know too well what had happened, but it had been something horrible. His school day had just ended few hours ago and he had already been walking towards the door when he had heard principal Mana talking to someone in his office. He had heard the man speaking about a student that could had died if they hadn't called for help. Shinya's curiosity had woken up right away and he had ran to the office.
"I'm sorry to interrupt but... I just happened to hear you talking about some student who..." Shinya had muttered. "Who are you talking about?"
"I guess it's a good thing you heard", Mana had answered. "Nishimura Tooru and Hara Toshimasa are your friends after all, right? That's what I've heard."
Shinya had nodded. "Yes, Tooru is my best friend. Don't tell me you we're talking about him?! Is he alright?!"
After that Mana had told him everything that had happened to Kyo and Toshiya and how Kaoru had rescued the them. Shinya had been panicking and kept asking where Kyo was. And finally Mana had told him that both Kyo and Toshiya were in hospital, resting.
And there he was, sitting and waiting for something to happen. He hadn't been let to go inside the room though he had begged for the nurses to let him go see his friends. Principal had also told him to calm down but he couldn't help it, he was shocked. And what felt the most horrible was that he had been so rude towards Toshiya and Kyo. He had been angry because he hadn't liked the way Kyo was spending more and more time with Toshiya. Just like Daisuke who always kept worrying and talking about Kaoru like nothing else mattered! He was... jealous. All his friends had someone else to spend time with and he was all alone. No one wanted to just hang out with him or anything... Of course it didn't give him a reason to act like a totally selfish brat towards his friends. Now he realised it.
He saw one of the nurses leaving the room where Kyo and Toshiya were and immediately stood up. "Can I already go and see them? Please...? I've been waiting here almost two hours and I'm really worried about them. So could you please let me in?"
"Okay. They are both feeling fine already", the nurse answered and opened the door once again. Shinya thanked her and walked inside, closing the door behind him.
He saw two beds on his right side and saw both Kyo and Toshiya laying on their own beds. Toshiya seemed to be awake already but it looked like Kyo was sleeping. Even though Shinya didn't like Toshiya too much, he pulled a chair from the other side of the room and sat beside him. Toshiya looked at him with a sad expression.
"Are you feeling alright?" Shinya asked right away. "I heard what happened and came to see you two."
"Yeah...", Toshiya said with a nod. "I'm feeling okay but I'm still worried about Kyo. Nurses said that he'll be fine but I'm still scared. He hit his head hard and he hasn't woken up at all. What if he looses his memory or something? I don't want anything to happen to him."
Shinya took a deep breath and saw Toshiya starting to cry. Actually it seemed like he would had been crying the whole time he had been in the hospital. "Hey, come on... It's alright. Kyo's going to be okay, I promise. The nurse said that you are both fine already."
"But you don't understand!" Toshiya whispered, sobbing. "If anything would happen to him... it would be all my fault. Because... I couldn't save him. I tried but... it wasn't enough."
"What the fuck are you talking about?! Calm down..." Shinya hissed. "I don't understand anything you're saying."
"That's because you weren't there! You didn't see what really happened out there", Toshiya continued to whine. "I tried to protect Kyo but I couldn't. They were too fast and strong and they were hitting him and... then he fainted and I thought he was dead. And then Kaoru came and-"
"Shut up", Shinya sighed. "You're not making any sense here. However, this is not your fault at all. So stop tormenting yourself. Kyo wouldn't want you to act like that."
"Why are you talking about him like that? He's not dead!" Toshiya whined. "Stop talking about him like he was dead!!!"
"I'm not talking about him like he's dead. I'm trying to get some sense in your thick head. You are out of control though you should be resting."

Two days passed before Kyo and Toshiya were finally ready to return to school. Everyone was surprised when they also saw a police car parking in front of school. Shinya and Toshiya knew that it had something to do with the fight between Kyo and Toshiya and Kei and his buddies.
"Wow, look at that man", Shinya whispered when the three of them saw one of the police officers walking towards the main door of their school. "He really looks like a police officer."
"Yes he does", Toshiya said, eyeing the man curiously. "Look at his face. He's scary. I hope he's not going to ask any guestions from me and Kyo."
"What? Scared of police officers, huh?" Shinya said, rolling his eyes. "Come on, he's just doing his job. He won't arrest you or anything."
Toshiya sighed and his gaze followed the police officer for a while, until he finally turned his attention on Kyo. The oldest boy was sitting behind them and looked very pale. "Kyo?" Toshiya whispered carefully. "Are you feeling okay? You haven't said a word whole day..."
Kyo didn't say anything. He just stared at ground without any expression. Toshiya knew the reason for it. Kyo was still shocked because of what had happened. And it was natural but Toshiya was worried about him anyway. It felt horrible to just have to watch his best friend suffering like that.
"Just let him be", Shinya said with a heavy sigh. "He's still shocked but it will go away. I think he got even more shocked because of that police."
"Well, he won't be able to answer any guestions, that's for sure", Toshiya said.

Daisuke was sitting in the school's restaurant, eating his lunch he had just bought. Kaoru was sitting opposite of him, also eating, and watching him. Daisuke didn't seem to notice it, he just continued eating in silence. This had been going on for days already and Kaoru was starting to get pissed off. Why didn't Daisuke talk to him anymore?
"Daisuke? Would you like to tell me what's bothering you?" Daisuke suddenly heard his best friend asking when they had been eating almost five minutes in deep silence.
"I would rather not talk about it. It's nothing important", he answered.
Kaoru sighed. "It has something to do with Shinya, right?"
Daisuke didn't want to talk about his fight with Shinya but he knew his best friend was worried about him. And Kaoru deserved to know what had happened. "Yeah. I had a fight with him few days ago. And now he won't even look at me or talk to me. I don't know what to do, Kaoru."
"What happened? What were you guys fighting about?" Kaoru asked.
"It's a little complicated..." Daisuke first said but continued then. "We were fighting about you. It all started when I was hanging out with him four days ago and you didn't come. I was really worried about you and it's natural because you're my best friend, right?"
Kaoru nodded.
"Anyway, Shinya got mad because of it. He said that everything's okay with you but I knew that something had happened to you. Well, after I went home I got your message and came to your house, remember? I didn't answer when Shinya tried to call me... And the next day when I met him he was furious. He said that all I do is running after you and all I care about is you. I said that you're my best friend but he didn't even try to understand. And after that I haven't had a chance to talk to him. He acts like I wouldn't even exist." Daisuke sighed. "I wish I knew what's wrong with him..."
Kaoru burst out laughing. "Are you serious?" he asked. "You seriously don't have any idea what's wrong with him?" Daisuke shook his head. "You tell me. I can't read minds."
"No, you definitely can't, it seems", Kaoru said with a warm smile. "He's jealous of you. I would say that he has some kind of a crush on you."
Daisuke's jaw dropped and his eyes widened. He shook his head immediately. "That's not true", he breathed. "He can't have a crush on me. Oh come on, who could even consider to be interested in me? I'm ugly and a nerd and I have glasses... and... I'm so boring. Besides, I'm a guy..."
"So what? Shinya's gay! Why wouldn't he like you?" Kaoru laughed. "He's been following you since he started school here. He likes you. I've been suggesting it for a while now."
"What ever. I'm not gay so it's all for nothing."
Kaoru rolled his eyes but this time he didn't say anything. He knew Daisuke couldn't be completely straight. He just knew it somehow, he had always known it. And even if Daisuke would never say it aloud, he also knew that Daisuke had to have a crush on Shinya too. They were both interested in each others that way but they were hiding it.
"Okay, I'm not sure if I believe you completely but so be it", Kaoru said. "But I think you should talk to him. It's no good that you're his teacher and you're not able to get any contact with him. Why don't you go now when he's there?"
Daisuke turned to look to his left side and saw Shinya sitting ten meters from them with Toshiya and Kyo.
"I would talk to him but like I said, he doesn't want to talk."
***
Shinya frowned when he saw Daisuke looking at him. Their eyes met for few seconds before he broke the eye contact and continued eating. He felt bad because of their fight but somehow he secretly hoped that he would be more important to the older boy than Kaoru. It wasn't possible and Shinya knew it. Daisuke had always been Kaoru's best friend, he hadn't had anyone else in his whole life and naturally Kaoru was the most important person for him.
Oh god how unfair he was. He had been a total bastard towards Daisuke...
"Kyo, why aren't you eating anything?"
Shinya turned his head to look at Toshiya who looked very worried. Kyo kept staring at his plate and still said nothing. "You must eat something", Toshiya said and Shinya thought he sounded very desperate. He saw Toshiya grabbing Kyo's hand with his own. "Please, just look at me..."
It seemed like a miracle but after a while Kyo finally looked at his friend. Shinya was very happy about it. It had already seemed like Kyo had no clue about anything but obviously he was listening to them after all. So the hope wasn't lost...
"Oh Kyo..." Toshiya breathed with a warm smile appearing on his lips. "Now why don't you eat-"
"Good morning."
All of them looked up and saw the police officer from earlier standing next to them. Toshiya gulped but greeted the man back. Kyo's face went pale once again. "Good morning, sir", Toshiya said, very tense.
"You can call me Hyde. I'm sure you already know that I'm a police. I came to solve this thing that happened few days ago", the police man said. "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask few question's from you later."
Toshiya nodded, hesitated for a while and then added: "Okay. But I don't think that Kyo... I mean Tooru is ready to talk about it at all. He seems to be shocked." Hyde's eyes wandered down to Kyo and it was his turn to nod.
"I understand", he said. "Anyway, after you two have eaten your lunch, come to the principal's office. I'll be waiting for you there."
***
After they had eaten their lunch, Toshiya and Kyo found themselves knocking on the principal's door. Only a couple seconds later the door opened and Mana was standing in the doorway. "Oh, there you are, boys. Come in and take a seat."
Toshiya saw the police officer Hyde sitting at the table and got even more nervous. He sat at the other side of the table next to Kyo. Mana opened the window because it was very hot in his office.
"So... I have something to ask from you two", Hyde started talking. "I would like you to tell exactly what happened. I've already heard your principal's version about how things happened but it isn't enough. Besides, he wasn't there when it happened so only you two can tell the truth."
Toshiya nodded. "Well, we were going to leave the school when they came..."
"Who came? Tell me exactly how it all happened", Hyde said.
Toshiya took a deep breath before he continued. "There was seven of them. Kei Miyazaki, Mizuki Takayama, Yuki, Hiyuki and Mitsuya Okabe... and there were also two other boys... but I don't know their names. I have never seen them before."
"Okay. Thank you", Hyde said. "I heard they attacked you two. How did it happen? Has it happened before?"
"Yes, it happened once before. I mean they almost killed Kyo... I mean Tooru... And I saved him that day", Toshiya said. "I don't know if they were really trying to kill him that day but this time they really tried. Kei said that they will kill him. They were probably trying to kill me too."
"That's a rough blame", Hyde said. "But I believe you."
"Yeah... If Kaoru hadn't showed up, we would both be dead. I mean-"
"Who?"
"Kaoru Niikura", Toshiya explained. "He's in high school. I guess these boys thought he wasn't alone and that's why they ran away."
Hyde nodded and was quiet for a while, turning his attention on Kyo then. "I would also had liked to ask questions from Nishimura but it seems like he's really not ready to talk about it." Another short silence. "Well, I guess this was it then. You're free to go. I thank you for your time."
Toshiya and Kyo both stood up. So did Hyde.
"Leaving so soon, officer? Wouldn't you like to have a cup of tea?" Mana asked in a disappointed tone. Hyde seemed to hesitate for a while and eyed the principal from head to toes. "Fine", he answered then. "Why not? I'm not busy or anything."

Shinya was waiting for his friends outside in the school yard when he saw Daisuke and Kaoru walking towards him. He sighed and lowered his head to stare at the ground. It was obvious that they were going to come and talk to him and he didn't feel like talking to either one of them. He was still somehow mad at Kaoru for being the number one friend of Die. And he was also embarrassed for shouting at Daisuke that way...
"No, Kaoru... I told you I'm not coming", he heard Daisuke saying aloud.
"You coward", Kaoru sighed and fastened his speed, stopping in front of him. "Hi", Kaoru said.
Shinya lifted his head and looked at the older boy. "Hi", he answered coldly and saw that Daisuke was standing almost five meters away from them. "Let me guess: you've come to talk for Daisuke."
"That's true", Kaoru said. "He told me what you guys were fighting about. It seems you are jealous because of me and I have to tell you... it's unnecessary. You have nothing to worry about, really. We are only friends with Daisuke. Nothing more. Understood?"
Shinya couldn't look at him. This was too embarrassing. "I don't know what you're talking about", he said. "I'm not jealous because of you."
"Oh come on!" Kaoru sighed. "You have a crush on Daisuke and it's alright really. Everyone can see that."
Shinya frowned and stared at Kaoru. "WHAT?!" He hissed. "That's not true! It's nothing like that."
Kaoru looked at him back, trying to find out if he was lying or not. "Sorry but I don't believe you... Anyway, why wouldn't you two make up already? He's been like... very sad after your fight. You really should talk."
"I'm not talking to him!" Shinya said. "You're sick. I do not have a crush on Daisuke and never will. I think there's definitely something wrong with you! I mean it, you're sick." Kaoru lifted his eyebrow, surprised.
"Just because you're sleeping with your own teacher doesn't make me the same!" Shinya continued. "You're trying to pair everyone, make everyone gay. Okay, I am gay but I don't have a crush on Daisuke!!! I'm not as twisted as you are!"
"Hey, I'm not trying to pair you with him, I'm just trying to help you two to get along and-"
"Yeah right! Fuck you! And keep your large nose out of other's life's!" Shinya hissed, furious, and stood up, starting to walk away. Kaoru rolled his eyes and turned around to look at his best friend. "I'm sorry but I don't think I made the situation better at all. I just messed things even more", he sighed heavily.

Gackt was sitting in the teacher's room on the sofa, when Yoshiki came in. "You're still here, huh? Shouldn't you be having a sport's class?" Yoshiki asked sounding very annoyed and took a cup of coffee, taking a seat at the table on the other side of the room.
"No... I don't have any more classes today..." Gackt whispered.
After that came a long silence but it wasn't strange when it was only the two of them sitting there. Yoshiki took a sip from his cup and started checking some mathematic's tests. He couldn't believe his eyes. It was the first time that Andou Daisuke hadn't done so well on a test. There must be some mistake... It was his last test so why now? Daisuke was one of the best students in this school so maybe he should talk about this with him later today...
Then he noticed something very odd. What was wrong with Gackt? It looked like he was crying.
"Hey, umm... what's wrong?" he managed to ask.
"Stop acting like you would care", Gackt said with a weak voice, not looking at him. "I know you hate me."
It was true and they both knew it but Yoshiki cared anyway. Gackt was crying and he was his ex-lover even though they didn't get along with each others. "I do care", he said and stood up, taking a seat on the sofa next to the younger man. "What's wrong?"
Gackt looked at him with wet eyes, whispering: "I got a phone call half an hour ago. My father's dead, he got a heart attack. He was the only family I had."
"I'm sorry..." Yoshiki sighed. "I really am..."
"No you aren't", Gackt said sadly. "You like it when I get hurt. You've never cared about me. Never. Not even when we were dating."
Yoshiki sighed heavily again and put his hand on the other man's shoulder. "That's not true: I am sorry for you. And when we were together, I cared about you a lot. I used to love you, remember?"
Gackt stared at him and managed to smile a bit. "Yes. I remember", he whispered. "I loved you too... But we were never meant to be together." He was silent for a while before he continued. "Oh god, I have to arrange the funerals for my father. I don't know how I'll be able to do it."
"It will be alright", Yoshiki said. "You'll get over it in time. My brother died in a car accident when I was younger and I got over it."
"Oh, that's good to hear", Gackt said with a sigh. "But my father's not the only thing making me feel like this. I've also been thinking about Kaoru a lot."
Yoshiki froze but didn't say anything. So there they were again. They always ended up to Kaoru and he didn't like it at all. Gackt didn't love Kaoru and it was wrong to fool the kid lying to him. Gackt took another deep breath. "I've been thinking about him and... I've finally understood what I've been trying to do to him. I've been a horrible teacher and a person. He's still just a kid after all. I'm a monster."
"Hey, you're not a monster..." Yoshiki forced himself to say though he still felt bitter towards the other man.
"But I am!" Gackt cried out and looked more guilty than ever. "I finally realised everything... Kaoru's always been so intelligent and such a good boy and everything. I kept watching him and I thought it was love. But... I was never in love with him. It was lust, not love. I understand it now. I was waiting for making him mine... I am a monster." He tried to wipe the tears away but he couldn't stop crying. "I've failed as a person and as a teacher."
Yoshiki knew it was true. Gackt hadn't been a proper adult or a teacher. Every teacher should had known not to try seducing their students. Yes, Kaoru was 19 but he was their student anyway. As long as Kaoru was in their school he was a kid. So were the rules. What Gackt had been doing was very wrong.
"I... will never find anyone to love. Maybe I don't deserve to love", Gackt whispered and blowed his nose to a handkerchief he had just pulled from his pocket.
"I'm sure you will find someone in time. You're forgetting that there are so many people in this world", Yoshiki said. "Besides, who knows if the love of your life would walk through that door right now."
"Hah. I don't believe in that kind of things", Gackt said coldly.
The door opened.
A man dressed in a police uniform entered the room. The man was quite young, he didn't look much older than Gackt himself. He had a dark brown hair and deep brown eyes that looked like they could see right through your soul.
Both Gackt and Yoshiki froze and just stared at the man with wide eyes.
The police officer Hyde lifted his eyebrow with a questioning look on his face. "Eh... did I interrupt something?" he asked.
Gackt was the one who came back to his senses at first. Wiping his wet face quickly on his hands he rose up from the sofa and smiled at the man.
"Not at all, officer", he said, offering his hand. "I'm Gackt-sensei. How's the investigation going?"
Yoshiki just stared at the scene before him. It seemed like Gackt had taken what he said quite literally.
TBC...
