In My Dreams
chapter 13
The wedding was lovely. The only problems being groomsmen nodding off and one slight issue with crying but Ally lent Carson her hanky and it was all fine. He ended up keeping it. Mostly because he couldn’t stop howling but the fact that it was pink probably was a deciding factor. Pete Jackson had even worn shoes. Granted they were sandals but they were actual footwear. Gotta give him credit.
Getting ready that morning had been hell. To say the least. It started with waking up at 7:30. Precisely 2 hours and twenty-eight minutes after Dom managed to pass into la-la land. After a quick call to the blissful couple to wake them up everyone knocked back as much coffee as they could hold and divided to their respective battle zones to prepare. It was like Iron Chef with no knives involved. Thank god. Luckily they also had more than and hour, though not much. And if Jai’s side were as organized as Elijah’s was they might just get married. Next year sometime.
You would think with no bride to doll up it would be easy but nnoooo. You apparently get just as much grooming and primping from a groom and four groomsmen as you would a whole gaggle of bridesmaids. Ally being the flower girl, ok, the only girl was actually done an hour before the guys. It was chaos. Orli couldn’t get his hair right. Dom misplaced a cufflink. Sean was bitching about how the required suit made him look fat. Billy was far too occupied grouching about not being allowed to wear his black kilt to even jab him with his usual Gamgee joke for it. Carson had taken over as only he can and insisted on matching Armani suits for everyone. Elijah and his side wore blue ties the exact shade of his eyes. It seems that brown was a no-no so Jai’s side wore black ties to compliment his very dark eyes. Privately Dom thought the blue made Lij the girl but wisely kept it to himself. The boutonnières had come in the wrong color. The roses were all supposed to be pure white, to tie everything in apparently, but they were cream colored. They had played rock, paper, scissors over who would have to call and tell Carson. Dom of course lost, why did he always choose paper? He then had to listen to the blond man have a coronary over the phone. He was still trying to get Jai’s four year old nephew, Lewis to learn to walk slow and not run sending rings flying off the pillow. Getting him to wear a tie was even more fun. Dom who was seemingly in charge over at his end was lucky, Ally liked playing dress up. Although, she also liked Kool-Aid. Viggo to the rescue, club soda and a hair drier took care of that problem.
By one o’clock everyone was ready. The flowers had been taken care of quickly with one call from Sir Ian to an old friend who was a florist, and were now securely pinned to lapels. Orli was coiffed and Dom had managed to find his cufflink in the kitchen mess that had for some reason migrated to his new house when he moved. Billy even looked somewhat comfortable in his trousers. Things were looking up.
Elijah wasn’t allowed to see Jai of course which was lucky because it meant there was a good chance he wouldn’t see his groomsmen either. Lucky because of a little wedding gift from Dom. He had had a pair of Nikes specially made for Elijah to wear. Dress sneakers if you will. And he didn’t want Carson passing out flat on the floor a half hour before this shindig. He had Emily stationed in the front to take a picture of his face when he notices. Dom’s other present was being installed during the wedding. An entire wall of the master bathroom was going to be mirrored, floor to ceiling. With a special mirror in the bedroom just for them. That would be a surprise all right. The limo driver was late and they didn’t arrive until twenty minutes before the ceremony was to start.
Right before he walked out Elijah’s mother had given him a St. Christopher’s medal that she had received on her wedding day from her mother. His sister had given him a silver ID bracelet with their nick names engraved on it. “Creep” and “Bug” names they tormented each other with as children but cherished as a special memory now. “Cant have you forgetting your little sis now can I Bug?”
“Don’t make me cry I was doing so well, Creep” After big hugs, they left to take their seats.
Once everyone was settled in, it went well. Lewis figured things out just fine. It might have been something to do with the death grip Ally had on his arm the whole way that stopped him from sprinting. Dom stumbled once but Thom caught him and no one noticed. Sean looked a little uncomfortable with Carson but that was probably because of the crying. Ted and Orli practically skipped. Billy and Kyan looked like they wished it were their day. In lieu of giving anyone away, they decided to walk down the aisle together so no one had to be the ‘bride’. The ceremony was standard but with them each writing their own vows. The kiss made even Orli blush and they were announced married. The best part was the press, thanks to an anonymous tip they were several hundred miles away searching every chapel in Vegas for the elusive couple. Therefore, friends and relatives brought the only cameras on site. Well, them and of course the hired photographer who with a twist of irony was blatantly and openly straight.
