Not So Broken Dreams

POV-Billie Joe

Kelly's skin was cold. I ran my hand across her cheek and was crushed when I saw no reaction. I knew that she was unconscious but in my heart I felt that maybe being touched by me again would awake her. I paced back and forth in the room not knowing what else to do.


She had a boyfriend most likely a few since me. I mean it's understandable for someone to move on after seven years but the thing was she hadn't truly. She was taking about getting back with me. I put her in that mess. If I hadn't of cheated with Tre we would of been ok. We would of been a happy family.


Finally her doctor entered the room and I ran towards him frantically afraid I would miss him. "When do you think she'll wake up?" I asked knowing there was no definite answer to my question.
"Were not really sure. It could be in a second, month, or even years."
"Can she hear me?"
"Yes but were not sure if she can understand what you sat fully. There might of been some brain damage. She may have amnesia for awhile. That is very likely."


My heart sank. "She may not remember you." I thought. and then I realized that her forgetting the past may be good. I could make her fall in love with me all over again. "No, that's horrible. You have a kid together. She needs to know the past."

I spent three months visiting that hospital. I went everyday. I wanted to be the first person she saw when she woke up. Her mom kept telling me to leave but I refused. Carrie was spending time at Kelly's family's house and I had a hotel.

Finally on a rainy September morning Kelly woke up. I was sitting in a chair on the right of her bed. I hadn't slept in about three weeks so when I saw her eyes open I thought I was dreaming. I thought I had just collapsed. I slowly walked up to the bed. Kelly's eyes began to water and I knew she remembered me. "I'm sorry" was all I could get out in between the gasps for air from crying so hard.

Kelly looked up at me with a look of complete misery. I felt the pain not only I but others had caused her. "It's ok....I know you never meant to hurt me. You were trying to fix me." she said with a laugh. "But don't worry. You don't have to fix me. I'm not broken. I'm just weak."


"Can I make you stronger?" I asked. I wanted to do anything I could to make her happy. I was desperate. "Yes." she said with a smile. "Will you take me back?" Before she could answer me Ann walked in. Kelly and I got quiet. Ann went ballistic. Nearly tackling Kelly. She was excited and jumping up and down all cause her baby was awake. She finally left Kel and I alone and so did the doctors after they examined her.


"Yes." Kelly said randomly.
"Yes, what?"
"I'll take you back."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"I have never been this happy before! I mean I have you and your going to be ok."
"Yep."
"I love you."
"I love you too. How is Carrie."
"She's just like you."


Kelly smiled at me and said "So how many girls have you had since me?"
"None."
"You don't have to lie. I don't care."
"None."
"I don't just mean sex either."
"Still it's none. How many guys since me?"
"Two and no sex."
"Wow, including the uh.."
"A plus driver yeah."


My mouth was dry. I wanted to ask her something but knew I couldn't. It was too soon but I couldn't help it. I blurted out "Marry me please!". Kelly looked up at me warmly. She made me feel like everything was and was going to be ok. "I'll marry you."
"Really?"
"You know I want to."

Almost, erm, 4 years.

Including Carrie it's two. Her and Damien.

She called me Satan so we thought you know, Damien was a fitting name for my child.
