Chapter Thirteen: Boys In Make Up...

Title:

Ms Self Destruct

Author: TrentReznorsSin

Disclaimer: Trent unfortunately doesn’t belong to me *sobs* (do you really think I’d be sat at my PC if I owned him?? Lol) but Erin and some other people you won’t recognise belong to moi. I’m a poor uni student so don’t sue, I’m not making anything out of this!

Summary: Set during the Self Destruct Tour 94/95. Trent’s decision to ask his best friend Erin to come along for the tour has made them both ask the question ‘are we just friends?’

Feedback: Yes please, no flames though, they make me cry

Author's note: This is the first NIN fiction I’ve written in years, so I might be a bit rusty.

Chapter Thirteen: Boys In Make Up And Girls With Guitars

“You okay Er?” Sat at the table, Erin opened her eyes and looked over at Danny.

“I’m fine…”

“You look tired…” Robin added, the two of them regarding her for a moment.

“I’m okay don’t worry. I just…didn’t get to sleep very well last night.” The two musicians resumed talking amongst themselves. Erin jumped down off the table and walked out of the room. Closing the door, she leant against the wall and rubbed her eyes. It was true what they had said, she was tired. But they had a show to do and had to leave for England in the morning. Pushing away from the wall, she walked down the corridor, being greeted by various members of the crew.

Walking into the ‘chill out’ room, she saw Jim Rose talking to some of the crew. Picking up a bottle of water from the table provided, she walked out again and sat on the worktop in one of the many rooms down the corridor.

Opening the bottle, she took a sip of the clear fluid, she looked over at her reflection in the large mirror. For the past couple of months, as she had become the 6th member of Nine Inch Nails, Robin had taken it onto himself to sort out her hair and make up so she fit in with the rest of the band. They had decided to dye random parts of her hair black and he had taken a good 15 minutes with the hairspray to make her hair as wild as it possibly could be.

At the moment, she had black eyeliner and white powder on her face. The black lipstick would come later, she thought as she took another sip, as well as the flour. She dreaded to think how much all the flour they used cost.

Speaking of cost, she didn’t even want to get started on the amount of money that had gone down the pan from Trent’s on stage activities as well as the antics they all got up to backstage, breaking mirrors, smashing god knows what.

It had been ages since Trent had looked in the mirror for this long. As he looked into the dark eyes outlined in black of his reflection, he wondered what would happen now his life had been turned upside down.

It was going to take some getting used to after 10 years of friendship, but he wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of this. Next to his music, she was the second most important thing in his life.

Lowering his army boot clad feet from the table, he leaned over and debated whether or not to put the black lipstick on yet…

Nah…

Instead, he got up out of the seat and walked out of the door.

The door creaked open.

“Thought I might find you here.”

“I needed a drink, although a coffee IV would be nice.” Trent’s lips turned up into a smile as he closed the door behind him.

“Last night’s activities catching up on you?” Putting the bottle down next to her, Erin folded her arms across her chest.

“Most probably.”

“I must admit staying up til 4 o’clock probably wasn’t the smartest idea…”

“Yup.”

“But we both enjoyed it so who cares?”

“Exactly.” She picked up the bottle and looked at it in her hands for a moment, swinging her legs back and forth. Trent watched her for a moment,

“I love you, you know that right?” Looking up, she put the bottle down by her leg.

“I love you too. It just feels a bit weird doing this after what happened…”

“Good or bad?”

“Definitely good, just feels a bit strange.”

“I know, I mean…it’s going to take some getting used to…” She nodded, feeling a lot better now that she knew he felt the same way. “C’mon…” He added, offering his gloved hand to her. “We need to finish getting ready.”

* * *

Something felt different for Trent as he performed on stage.

He felt…free.

She knew everything now, and that still hadn’t changed things. It just showed that they were even more suited for each other. She knew what a twisted and dark mind he had, and she didn’t give a fuck.

As the words from ‘Sanctified’ spilled automatically from his black lips, his vision distorted by the strobe lights, he could just make out her figure moving along to the music as she played with Robin.

It was great how the fans had taken a liking to her, a lot of the female fans thought it was about time they had a girl in the band. The younger female fans were always there waiting for her, telling her how great it was to see someone ‘as cool as Trent’.

It amazed him how things that seem so small at the beginning could blow up to such proportions. One minute he finds he’s met someone who he can share musical ideas and jam with, the next minute he realises she’s the woman of his dreams and wants to spend the rest of his days with her.

A small smile tugged at his lips as he continued to sing.

Life was full of surprises…
