In My Dreams

“Now before you flip out let me explain.”
“Explain? This should be good.” Anger was starting to push hurt and confusion to the back.
“Will you sit down? This is good news I swear.”
“Good news?” Dom couldn’t really believe that, but was willing to listen. Well shut up long enough for an explanation at any rate. After all, she hadn’t done anything wrong. Just had a vision. It was supposed to be her first good one he would have to trust her that there was a happy ending somewhere in there. Dom could be quite the Neanderthal but chose his chest beating moments carefully. So he sat back down on the couch. She perched on the edge next to him.
“You will listen?”
“Yeah, I can do that.”
“I was relaxing on my mat doing my deep breathing when suddenly I was at the hospital watching my self in labor. It was a strange experience to say the least. You were holding my hand. I think I was breaking your fingers but you wouldn’t let go.”
“But I thought you said. . .”
“That she wasn’t yours? She isn’t. She happens to be Elijah’s.”
“Oh that’s much better. One of my best friends. Wait a minute. In case you’ve forgotten, ‘Lij is married.”
“And gay. Are you nuts? I’d never sleep with him! The thought!”
“Well sorry but you popping his child out kind of gives a guy that whole they had sex vibe.”
“Actually I should have said she was Elijah and Jai’s child. I will carry her for them. Can I finish now?”
“By all means.” Ok this might not be as bad as he thought.
“I heard a woman say ‘it’s a girl’ and then I was in a room that I didn’t recognize and a little girl was beside me. She took my hand and led me out of the room. We were outside in a garden. I asked her where we were going she said to meet some people. Suddenly she broke away and ran around a bend in the path. When I caught up with her she was with them In Elijah’s arms with Jai holding her hand then I realized she had Elijah’s eyes. She looked at me and said ‘these are my daddies.’ I went to say how happy I was for them when she continued, ‘and you’re my mommy.’ She told me I had to go. I asked her what her name was she told me that was up to me. Then I was awake. I jumped up to come tell you and of course I hit my head” she motioned to the now large purple lump on her head. “And that’s it. I think we have a couple friends who want to ask us something if you want to call and invite them over for say a dinner or something.” That is if you’re ok with it?”
He felt better now that she had explained things. It would be wonderful for his friends to have a little girl. The thought of his girlfriend carrying it didn’t really bother him now that he knew the story. “I assume you’re not going to do this the old fashioned way right?” He was mostly joking. She slapped him on the shoulder and told him to go call.
Dinner went well. Emily asked Jai if there was anything they wanted to ask. At first, he said no but she persisted and he caved in. Told her it was something that she could think about as long as she wanted to and if she said no they wouldn’t blame her. Before he could even actually ask she told him yes. She continued to explain to them what she had told Dom. They looked relieved. “I didn’t really know how to even bring it up.”
“Apparently she was afraid you would never ask.” Emily smirked at them. Arrangements were made. She would go to the clinic for a pre-interview the next week. Elijah’s part would come later. They even decided that they would move in with the boys so that they could be there through the pregnancy. Besides, she wanted to be a part of her daughter’s life. Technically Jai would adopt her and she would give up her rights but she would still be there.
The next Thursday she was getting ready to go to her appointment. “Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you Em?”
“I’m sure. You dont want to go anyway. It’s just going to be about an hour of having blood drawn and personal questions. You know like ‘when did you first start to menstruate? And ‘when do you ovulate next?’ stuff you wont want to be there for.
“Alright but call me if you need to.”
“Yes, Mother!”
Dom spent the next hour working on his and Billy script and looking at the clock. When she came home, he wasn’t sure if she was happy or not. “Hun are you okay?”
“I think so. But I have something to tell you. I won’t be able to carry their child.”
“Why are you ok?” Dom was worried she wasn’t sick or anything was she.
“I’m fine. I won’t be able to carry their child because I’m already carrying yours Dom.” Dom was glad he was already sitting. The thought of a child and the reality of one are two different things. He was so happy his throat began to close up.
“Really? My baby. You mean she is actually mine after all.”
“Well no, she will be born for them just not right now.” Dom didn’t know what to do he was filled with so much love that he did the one thing he had been wanting to for awhile.
“Well we won’t be able to move in with them until then.”
“Why not? We can still move.”
“Not yet we’re not I want some time to myself with my wife and child.” He looked at her to see what she had to say.
“Well we will have plenty of time to. . . did you say wife?”
“I did if you will have me. Emily will you marry me?”
“OH my god YES!!” She leaped off the couch into his arms and smothered him with kisses.
“Thank you, Thank you , thank you. For loving me and giving me the best a man can ask for. I never actually thought about being a dad before. Never thought I would have someone willing to be with me long enough.”
“What you never thought of yourself as a Dad teaching a little version of you football or peeing for distance?” Dom looked at her with all honesty in his eyes.
