Part 17

Ben:

We all met downstairs in the lobby ready to go back to the tour bus. I was surprised to see Sam and James joking around together with Cam. It was as though nothing had ever happened between them.

“They must’ve sorted it out,” Danny whispered to me as we approached them hand-in-hand.

“Well! It took you two long enough to get down here!” Sam noticed us first. He was being way too loud and cheerful compared to yesterday. He’s always been a morning person, but this was ridiculous!

“You two weren’t fucking were you?” Cam joked.

“Nah. We were last night, though!” It wasn’t a lie that I’d told them, but they took it as a joke anyway. I smiled and glanced at Danny who’d gone red in the face. I squeezed his hand and we all headed back to the bus.

Cam was boasting about how wasted he’d got last night and how much fun we’d missed out on.

“Did you get laid last night, then, Cam?” Sam asked. Cam hesitated, then slumped his shoulders and frowned.

“No,” he muttered. We all laughed and started taking the piss out of him. I have to admit, the thought of Cam sat at a bar, getting wasted and being forever alone was pretty funny. He may as well have stopped in the hotel like we did. “It was a pretty pointless night out,” he admitted.

When we were on the bus, James stuck the Xbox on and we all took it in turns playing against each other. James and Sam were playing against each other when Cam asked “So, whatever was up with you guys, you’ve sorted it out, then?” Sam glanced at James and paused the game. They both turned to face us.

“What was up with us two was that I had told Sam that I love him and Sam wasn’t too sure whether he loved me back.” James spoke directly to Cam since both me and Danny already knew this.

“And, yeah, we’ve sorted it out. Me and James are gonna give us a try, but we’re taking it slow. So, if you guys don’t mind, can you keep this between us?” Sam continued. Both me and Danny nodded and said “Yeah, of course.” Cam also nodded but the look of confusion on his face was almost comical.

“Well… You guys can keep your feelings bottled up pretty easily! I honestly didn’t see any of this coming. I’m sorta feeling left out, though. I’m the only horny bachelor left! I don’t have a serious relationship going yet!” Cam pretended to cry and we all laughed while I wrapped my arm around him in joke sympathy.

We all played a few more games each, but soon got bored so we decided to stick a movie on. We all sat huddled together, pigging out on chocolate and beer. Me and Danny sat on the sofa, Danny laid on my shoulder; Sam, James and Cam were all sprawled out on the floor. I was happy for Sam and James, but I couldn’t help but notice that they weren’t acting like a couple: they were just acting like the good friends that they were before this whole fiasco. I know they said that they were taking it slow, but a relationship – a supposedly serious one – shouldn’t be this awkward. Oh, well. I’ll just let them get on with it; I guess it’s not my place to interfere with their relationship, after all.
