This is a work of fiction. I do not know the members of Sum 41. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
The Trap Is Set
The performance had went well, Avril thought. She wasn't too familiar with Metallica previously, but had begun to listen to them a while before the show. All things considered, people seemed to like her rendition of "Fuel". But she was still a bit wound up from playing. Avril debated going back to her dressing room for a nap, or going to catch some of the other acts. But as she was going down the hallway, she noticed some heads poking out the door. It looked like...as she got closer, she saw the name that had been written on the door: SUM 41. There were also a few crude drawings of various obscene acts, probably drawn by SteveO. She gave out a little laugh at that. Maybe she should pay a visit to the band. It might be nice to talk with some other Canadian musicians.
Suddenly the door burst open, giving her something of a surprise. Two members of Sum 41 burst out. She recognized the drummer, Steve, because somebody had once mentioned him in passing. The other, she knew, was the singer, but his name eluded her. They looked a little surprised to see her there, too.
"Uh, hi," she managed.
An awkward silence passed before the singer went, "...hi, hi! Uh, I'm Deryck...the singer for the band."
"Yeah, I thought I knew your face," she smiled, and he looked a little pleased at that. She turned to the drummer.
"Steve, right?"
A big grin spread over his face. "The one and only," he said. "Great performance out there."
She ran a finger through her long, straight hair. "Thanks. You probably think that I'm a complete MTV poser, though, because I didn't listen to Metallica much before this-"
Steve cut her off. "Ah, come on," he said, waving his hand dismissively. "You did a great job anyway. I seriously think that was even better than Metallica's version."
Avril gave a little smile as Deryck rolled his eyes. Turning on the old charm, he thought. "So...where are you off to now?" he asked her. She looked a bit surprised at the question.
"I don't know...I was thinking of going back to my dressing room," she said. "I don't really know anybody here."
Steve moved slightly closer to her. "Oh, come on, there's loads to do here!" he exclaimed, slightly more loudly than necessary. "Hey, why don't you go take a look at the other bands with us?"
Avril looked a bit hesitant. "Geez, I don't know..."
But Steve took her hand and gave her a slight pull towards the main auditorium. "Ah, come on!" he said encouragingly. Avril took a look back at Deryck, grinning a little in a mock expression of helplessness as Steve pulled her along. Deryck smirked at it all and followed the two.
