What I couldn't See

Three o’clock in the morning. Lex couldn’t sleep. Orlando had been avoiding her for the past week. He only spoke to her when he had to. Even during filming she could see that he didn’t want to be around her. Lex was so confused, so hurt. What did she do wrong? Did she hurt him? She decided the best thing to do would be to talk to Johnny. Now.

She threw on a jacket and walked out into the night air. Her mind was racing. Tears stung her eyes. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt Orlando. She arrived at Johnny’s trailer and pounded on the door.

“Johnny? It’s Lex. Please let me in. I need to talk to you.”

A few moments later, Johnny opened the door, wiping the sleep from his eyes, “Lex? What’s wrong honey?”

“Johnny, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to bother you.”

“Don’t worry about it, come in. Sit down.”

She sat down on the couch and Johnny brought her a drink and sat next to her. “What’s wrong?”

“Orli still isn’t talking to me.”

“What? Why?”

“I don’t know. I was hoping you did.”

“Well, did you try talking to him?”

“Yes, but every time I tried he said he had to go do something. I don’t understand. I hurt him Johnny I know I did. But I don’t know how I hurt him.”

Johnny sighed, “I wasn’t supposed to tell you this.”

“What? Tell me what?”

He paused for a moment then ld hed her in the eyes, “He’s in love with you.”

Lexy’s jaw dropped as she found her self in a position even more unbelievable than when Orlando had heard her screaming Johnny’s name.

“He has been ever since the day he met you,” he continued.

“You’re joking right?” she stuttered.

Johnny shook his head, “I heard it from his own mouth.”

“This can’t be happening.”

“Apparently, when you and him were messing around, he figured you were just using him to keep a secret…But I get the feeling that’s not all you wanted from him. Was it?”

Lex closed her eyes, realizing what she had been unable to see for so long. Johnny was right. She opened her eyes and looked into his, “Oh my God,” she said slowly, “I love him.”

Johnny smiled and put his hand on her shoulder, “I know,” he said, wiping the tears from her eyes “I can see it in your eyes you love him. But now he needs to know. He needs to know you feel the same way.”

“I don’t think I can tell him.”

“Yes you can. You don’t want him to feel like this forever do you? Trust me. You’re stronger than you think.”

She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a hug, “Thank you so much Johnny.”

“No problem. I’m here anytime you need me, Lex. Always remember that. You wanna just crash here tonight? You need some sleep.”

“Yeah. If it’s not a problem.”

“Of course not,” he kissed her forehead, “Don’t worry about anything tonight. Just sleep.”

They slept in the same bed, but only as friends. Johnny knew she was in love with Orlando, and they both realized they respected their friendship too much to push it any further.

She curled up in the blankets and stared out the window, The light of the full moon resting on her face. A thin layer of clouds made the stars look hazy, and Lex had to laugh.

“What the hell?” Johnny asked as Lexy’s laughing grew louder.

She unsuccessfully tried to hold back her laugh as she stared at the stars, “The stars are veiled…”

“Oh my God.”

“…Something stirs in the east-“

“Here we go.”

“A sleepless malice…The eye of the enemy is moving.”

“YOU’RE gonna be moving out of this bed if ya don’t let me get some sleep!” Johnny teased, throwi pil pillow at her, “Bloody hell. I’m sleeping next to another elf.”

“What about side by side with a friend?” She laughed.

“You’re as bad as those rabid Legolas fangirls who saw Return of the King 5 times in theaters.”

“I didn’t see it five times in theaters.”

“Well that’s good to know.”

“I saw it 11.”

“WHAT??!”

Lex busted out laughing.

“You have GOT to be kidding me!”

“No,” she laughed, “ I couldn’t help it, it was a good movie!”

Johnny pulled the covers over his head, “I must be going mad.”

“You have to admit it was good!”

“Yeah it was good, but 11 times?”

“And Orlando looked sooo good.”

“Yeah. I gotta admit. He looks dead sexy as an elf….But 11 times?!”

“I love when he kills the Oliphant.”

“I love at the end when Frodo wakes up in the bed, and Legolas walks in.”

“OH MY GOD THAT’S MY FAVORITE PART!”

“Oh dear Lord. Should never have opened my mouth.”

“Did you ever notice that when everyone else walks in, Frodo says their name, but Legolas doesn’t even need an introduction. Even Frodo’s in total awe. I mean seriously, the look on his face says it all.”

“Good night Lex.”

And when he slides off the trunk of the Oliphant…Wow!”

“Goodnight Lex.”

“Oh no, you can’t go to sleep now, I’m all in the mood to talk about Leggy!”

“GOODNIGHT LEX!”

“Fine. Human scum.”
