The Oasis

Chapter 2
Later when Iris opened her eyes, everything still seemed to be dark around her, it was night, and there was no one and nothing to be seen. She was lying in the sand under the stars and even though she knew everything was wrong and she was in trouble, she couldn’t help looking up at the stars and feeling at ease, at one with the world, and everything in it. The stars had always fascinated her, ever since childhood and she truly loved staring at them. She begrudgingly sat up to take a look around and see where everyone had gotten to. Her stomach reeled a bit from the sudden movemend tnd threatened to spill whatever happened to be in there, and her head throbbed. Slowly standing up she searched the expanse set out in front of her, the plane was to her front about 500 feet away. Figuring they may be in the plane searching the wreckage and helping survivors she slowly, staggered across the desert. “Hello?” She called into the plane, curious at the absolute still silent night. Only silence returned her call, she warily stepped into the plane. Everyone inside was dead, there were holes in the side of the plane that looked like bullet holes, and the man, the one who had helped her out from under the debris and dead man was dead as well. Riddled with bullet holes, blood dripped down his head, and from the corner of his mouth. She gasped, the air felt dry and menacing, she turned to run from the tomb for so many. Just as she cleared the hole in the side of the plane a hand reached out grabbing her wrist spinning her aroun fac face its owner, a tall man stood with a gun pointing square in her face. He growled “Where is it bitch?”
Iris shrieked as if in pain, bolting straight up right into the forehead of the man kneeling in front of her, knocking him backwards. “Oww” they cried together. Iris’ hand went to her forehead and her other reached for the man in front of her. “Are you okay? Shit, I’m so sorry.” Her breathing was ragged and her speech slow and slurred. The man shook his head, which made Iris chuckle, because he reminded her of her dog shaking off after a bath, and he settled himself on his knees reaching out taking Iris’ hand. “I’m fine love, it’s alright, no worries.” He stood up, holding her hand still. “Hey do you think you can get up, maybe walk?” Iris put one hand to the floor and pushed herself up with Orlando’s help of course. She looked at him and smiled. “Thank you.” Orlando put an arm around her shoulder and walked her to the hole in the side of the airplane. “We should probably get out of the plane, who knows if it’s safe or not.” Iris frowned stopping for a moment to think, Orlando lookedk cuk curiously. “Orlando, do you have even the slightest clue where we are? This is a desert, you don’t stay out in the desert for extended periods without water.” He frowned at her, pulling her arm towards him, she allowed him to bring her closer. “Shh, yes I know where we are, but what do you intend for us to do? Wait here for the plane to possibly explode?” Iris looked at him, then around at the wreck that was once an airplane and sighs dejectedly and follows him out the gap in the planes side. “Alright, but we must find a place for shade or water for the injured.” Orlando looked back and nodded. “Agreed.”
