Chapter 2:

“I need to talk to you… I think I’m gonna go insane if I don’t talk to someone about this… Can we have lunch together?” you say to your best friend who is listening to you on the other end of the phone line.

“Of course… What time? Where?”

“11:30. At your house. Are you alone?”

“Yes, I am… Jesus, what is it? You’re scaring me…”

“I’m the one who is scared… I’ll talk to you soon.”

You hang up and try your best to focus on your work… Everything will be fine… You’ll be fine. You think as you check your watch. 9:30.

“Something happened yesterday… or better… someone. I couldn’t sleep the whole night. I have to talk to someone.” You say to your friend who is sitting beside you on the couch of her living room.

“Shhh. It’s ok. I’m here to listen to you. You can talk.” She says placing her hands over yours to comfort you.

You look at how big her belly is and remember how you were feeling when you were pregnant.

“Oh God, I can’t involve you in this… Not in the state you are…”

“Hey. We know each other since we were kids… I’m already involved… And I can see you are terrified! Whatever it is, tell me!”

You take a deep breath and look at her.

“Remember when you went to live in Paris three years ago… something happened…”

“Tell me everything from the start.”

“Well, I was going to work. Do you remember? I used to work in that perfume store downtown. I used to go by foot.”

“That one next to that famous bookstore... hmm, what's the name... Sears? Yeah, I remember. You were working there for a month already when I left to Paris.”

“Well… here’s what happened…”
