Christmas Story
After Christmas Party
“Beeeer, beeeer!” Zack moaned opening the door to Matt’s house and collapsing in the hallway, “No wait…whiskeeeeey, whiskeeey!” he giggled and picked himself up and made his way to the living room where Matt and Brian were already breaking into the alcohol. Zack collapsed on the couch next to Brian and grunted happily when Brian set a heavy bottle of Jim Bean in his lap. He cracked the seal and took a long swig and coughed a little before setting it back on the coffee table. “Ah, I love the holidays.” He giggled. Brian snorted and leaned his head back, “My favorite relative is Jack Daniels.” He stretched out some and lifted his head when the door opened again.
“Christ, I remember why I moved out when I was sixteen.” Jimmy bitched coming into the dark room. Zack started to get up but Jimmy waved him back down and plopped down on Brian’s lap. Brian grunted, “God, Jimmy, your skinny ass weighs a ton.” He settled back on the couch though and pulled the drummer back against him. Jimmy pulled a Corona out of the six pack on the table and got himself comfortable on his friend’s lap while twisting the top off. Brian ran his fingers down the side of his face, “Be nice to your family, Jimmy.” He murmured giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. A smile twitched Jimmy’s lips and he sighed, “Next year you can come with me.”
“Oh hell no, I’ve got enough to deal with.” Brian snickered. As holiday tradition that had sprung up years ago, the guys always gathered at Matt’s house Christmas evening for a couple drinks and unwinding. They all loved their families and missed them desperately while on tour, but the concentrated doses the holidays gave them were a little much.
The door opened again and a moment later a tired Johnny walked in. Taking Jimmy’s lead he curled up on Matt’s lap cradling a bottle of Johnny Walker. Zack scooted around so he could lean against Brian and Jimmy, “Hey guys, it’s snowing.” He said pointing at the window. The alcohol was slowly warming him and easing away the stress of the holidays. Outside small flurries were falling in the buttery streetlight. It wasn’t a full blown snowstorm, but for sunny Orange County it was rare and a special treat.
Jimmy made a small sound and turned some so he could look out the window as well. Brian’s pale fingers combed through his unruly hair and down his neck. Zack pulled the almost empty Corona bottle out of his fingers and set it on the table. The drummer roused himself some but settled back after a moment as Brian’s fingers continued to run down his throat.
“I almost wish we were in New York.” Johnny murmured. Zack sat up and smacked his thigh before settling again. Johnny giggled and snuggled closer to Matt, “I said almost.” He whined.
He was warm and more than comfortable against Brian’s and Jimmy’s bodies. The street was quiet and the flurries were falling steadily. Zack’s eyes grew heavy and he set his bottle of alcohol on the table and curled his feet under him.
“Wanna trade places?” Jimmy murmured. Brian sighed and shifted some, “Too much work.” He mumbled. Matt’s low hum filled the silence after they quieted, familiar chords of Silent Night drifting through the quiet room. Zack hummed along with him, his voice coming and going the more tired he got. Brian’s warm breath blew against his neck slow and even. Jimmy’s arm wrapped around his chest and held him close. Zack’s voice faltered and he tucked his head under the drummer’s chin and drifted into sleep.
