Chapter Twenty-One
"So you'll be alright? Are you sure?" Rob asked for the hundreth time.
"Yes. I'll miss you though." She said laying her head on his chest.
"Me too." He answered kissing the top of her head. He had to leave for Europe to promote his CD. He would be gone for two months. Since her show had been picked up by the studio she would be staying in L.A. and staying with Rob.
"I'm going to be so lonely." She said. If she had asked he would have cancelled the whole promotional tour, just to stay with her. But she would never have asked that.
"We'll talk on the phone every night. And e-mail. It will go really quickly." He said.
"No it won't. But I'll sneak over a couple of visits." She said.
"Promise?" He asked.
"Promise." She answered. They held each other tightly before Rob's driver came over and told them they had to leave if Rob was going to make his plane.
"Talk to you tonight." He said. She nodded and kissed him quickly, holding back tears. He walked backwards to the car, waving at her. She laughed in spite of the fact she felt like crying.
"Be careful that's dangerous." She called out just as Rob, bumped his back into the open car door.
"Oww." He said rubbing the spot., before he got in. He then opened the window and leaned out and as the car pulled away, he shouted good bye to her. She waved back and watched the car disappear around the corner.
"This sucks." She said to herself. As she turned to go back inside the house. It seemed so empty and quiet without him. She grabbed her purse and decided to go to the studio and do some writing there. They had given her a nice cushy office and she would also be assigned co-writers to help with the scenes. She hoped that they wouldn't hijack her show and change it all around.
Two days later she had her first meeting with the new writers. There were four of them. Three men and one woman. The woman's name was Rusty, which Lex found humurous as Rusty had white blonde hair, and didn't look like a Rusty at all. The guys were Tom, a short well built guy with dirty blond hair and a raunchy sense of humour. Colin, a tall good look man who was a bit on the chubby side and a Brit living in the US like Lex. And finally Nick, he was Greek and had black hair and dark skin with incredible eyes, they were almost silver. Lex could barely meet his eyes, he was so good looking. The new writes had some good ideas and Lex was pleased to see that they weren't trying to change her characters into something else.
They worked well together and several weeks later they finished up an 11 hour day with the group of them going out for a drink together. They went to a trendy bar where there were several celebrities present. Colin went to get their drinks while the others crowded into a booth. Colin came back with tequila shots for them and they all laughed and took their shots. Several more shots later, Lex was totally drunk, in fact she had never been so hammered in her life, she could barely stand and had to hang on to one of the guys to keep from falling down.
"I think we should get Lex home." Rusty said with a laugh. Lex was currently leaning on Tom, telling him a story about the time she got her nose pierced. The others agreed and got in a cab to take Lex home.
Lex woke to the phone ringing. She was laying on the couch in the games room.
"What am I doing here?" She wondered. She stood up and then sat right back down, she was too dizzy to stand. She slid alond the length of the couch until she could reach the phone and picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Lex? Are you okay? So sound like shit." She heard Rob say.
"Thanks. Don't talk so loud. I have a headache." She whispered. Rob laughed.
"You're hungover, aren't you?" Rob asked with a laugh.
"Actually yes." Lex admitted.
"So that's why you weren't home when I called. You were out getting smashed." Rob said loudly not feeling sorry for her aching head one bit.
"I went out with the writing crew." She told him.
"Well you work pretty hard, you deserve some fun." Rob told her.
"I miss you. I'm sorry I couldn't come and meet you." She said.
"I miss you too. I'll be home in a month, that's not too long."
"It's an eternity." She said sadly. They spoke for a few more minutes, she asked him how the promotion was going and he gave her all the good news.
"I have to go now Lex. I'll try to call you tonight." He said.
"Okay." She answered and listened to the click of the phone as he disconnected. She got up and took a shower but she felt so exhausted from the drinking. Her head was killing her and she felt sick. And on top of all that she was depressed. She missed Rob and she couldn't help but worry about all the girls that must be coming on to him.
She arrived at work 10 mins late and found Nick in her office.
"Shit Lex, the studio board wants to meet with you right now." He told her.
"What? I am not prepared for this." She said panicking. She grabbed her briefcase and some papers off her desk and felt a wave a nausea hit her. She sat on her chair and put her head between her knees breathing deeply.
"You hungover Lex?" Nick asked. She just nodded.
"I've got a quick fix for that." He said. She looked up at him. He held up a vile of white powder.
"Drugs? Shit Nick, you shouldn't be doing that shit." Lex told him.
"I almost never do but when you are like this it helps you be on the top of your game. You need that today." He told her. She stared at it and thought about everything. She really had to be 100% for the board but drugs were bad, she thought. She stared at the vile for several moments trying to say no. But for some reason she didn't. Her phone rang and it was Rusty.
"Let's go Lex, the board is getting bored." She said laughing at her own joke.
"I'll be right up." Lex said. She hung up the phone and turned to Nick.
"Show me how." She said. She watched as he poured a small amount onto the back of his hand and then he pressed one nostril closed and snorted the powder up his nose. Lex nodded and allowed Nick to put some on her hand, in a second it was gone and she felt like a God.
"Yes. I'll miss you though." She said laying her head on his chest.
