Family Ties

Chapter 23 Family Ties

“Eric! Huh?” Devon stood there shaking his head, rolling his eyes up to the sky. “Wake up already bro.”

“That’s a ‘Raven’ look if I’ve ever seen one” Jarod piped in.

“Must be love,” Devon said jokingly.

“Well if that’s what it does to you remind me not to step in it, fall in it, or trip over it until I’m at least 50!” Jarod said laughing.

“You say that now” Eric said winking, “but one of these days it’ll hit you too.”

Devon added, “All I know is if I had a woman like Rae….you could beat me in the head with it if you wanted to…Damn she’s fine!”

“Watch your mouth little brother.” Eric said faking a stern demeanor, “that’s my intended you’re talking about”

“And just when do you ‘intend’ to make it legal?” Devon queried.

“First he’s got to get rid of that truck,” Jarod said slyly.

Devon looked at him puzzled, “Truck? “What’s his truck got to do with it? I thought Raven liked that truck…didn’t she help you pick it out? What are you talking about Jarod?”

“Diesel. First he’s got to get rid of Diesel.”

The light finally dawned for Devon and he asked, “Yeah, what’s goin’ on with that Ric? I thought they broke up?”

“They did.” Eric said, concern crossing his face. “But he’s trying to get her back.”

“You’re not gonna just sit back and let that happen are you?” Devon asked, “he can’t just come in here and waltz off with my sister-in-law-to-be, you’re not gonna let him get away with it are you?”

Jarod answered for him, “Of course he’s not….you’re not are you?”

Eric smiled. As he walked into the house he said over his shoulder, “Don’t worry little brother, it ain’t gonna happen. Not as long as Sittin’ Bull is still sittin’ down.”
