Chapter Twenty-Three

NOTE****** I don't know anything about drugs, other than what I see on TV and the movies. Lex probably wouldn't have spiraled out of control so fast...but for the purposes of the story she had to.*****

"What? No! Why would you ask me that?" She asked extremely defensively. And he knew it, the way she acted sealed the answer for him. He got up and walked over to her, and started going through her pockets. He pulled out a small bottle of coke.

"Jesus Lex. How could you? You are doing this shit? And you bring it into my house? What the fuck happened to you?" He went to the sink and washed the coke down the sink.

"You asshole. Don't tell me how to live. You fucked up your life enough. I'm not like you. I'm not an addict." She spat at him.

"Lex. I can't have this going on in my house." He said calmly.

"What are you saying?" She asked, tears welling up in her eyes.

"You need to get help or get out." he said. He knew from his own past that she had to want to get help. And if she didn't she would destroy them both if he let her stay.

"You're kicking me out? That's just fucking priceless. You prick. Fuck me and then toss me. Jon told me you would do this to me." She shouted. Her words cut him deep, made his heart ache but he couldn't give in. If she stayed he would be doing drugs with her before too long and he couldn't go back there.

"Lex, please, let's go to the hospital and get you help." He was begging her now, knowing it would be useless. He could hear his own mum's voice racked with tears saying almost the same words to him.

"No! I am out of here. I don't need you." She said through her own tears. Inside her heart was screaming at her to stop and to go to him for help. But the words wouldn't come out. The coke was in control and it didn't give a shit about love. She went to their room and started throwing clothes into a bag.

"I'll come get the rest of my stuff later." She said storming down the steps. Rob flinched when the door slammed and he sat on the stairs holding his head and crying. Lex was gone and his heart was broken.

"Hello?" Rob said groggily into the phone.

"Rob. I need you." It was Lex. He hadn't heard from her for 4 months. That night it had been for money. She had left him without a word for two months and then she had called begging him for money. When he told her he couldn't enable her addiction, she had scream obcenities at him. He had cried silent tears for the woman he had loved, still loved. Now she was calling him again, in the middle of the night.

"Lex...I can't give you any mone...."

"Please Rob. There's blood everywhere." She cried.

"Where are you? What happened Lexi?" He said sitting up and reaching for his pants.

"He hurt me. He said he would give me a fix if I did it but he didn't. My mouth hurts." She was barely coherent.

"Lexi. Tell me where you are." She gave him an answer and he told her he would be right there. While he ran down to his car he called 911 on his cell phone and told them what had happened. An ambulance and police were on their way. Then he called Jon.

"Jonny. She's called me. I'm not sure what happened yet but she's hurt. I'll let you know as soon as I know what happened."

"Okay Rob. I'll make arrangements to fly over." Jon told him.

The police were already there when Rob arrived. It was a run down neighbourhood, the house had broken shutters and the lawn hadn't been mowed in months. He tried to go up the stairs but a cop stopped him.

"Please, I'm the one who called 911. I know her." Rob said. The cop nodded and let Rob in. Another Cop was checking her vitals, she was sitting on the floor, a phone still clutched in her hand.

"Oh my God, Lexi." Rob said, tears now running down his cheeks. She was so skinny, no more than 90 lbs, her clothes hung off her. She had dark circles under her eyes and her nose was broken, blood was pouring from it. She had been punched or kicked in the mouth as well, it looked as though she was missing teeth. And there were fresh bruises forming over a patch work of older bruises. He took her hand and she cracked her eyes open.

"Rob. I knew you'd come. I'm so sorry I called you unoriginal." She said, her voice was filled with blood and mucus that was running down her throat.

"Shhh. It's going to be alright Lexi. I'll make sure you are okay." He promised.

"I never told you." She said to him.

"Told me what baby." He asked.

"That I loved you." She said, tears running down her face and mixing with her blood.
