Chapter 23
The next morning they rose early. The fire had died and they were both freezing.
Beth jumped into the shower and Alan wandered into the kitchen to clean up from the night before.
He smiled to himself as he rinsed the empty mousse pots under the tap. Last night had been incredible, emotional...and a lot of fun.
He had an idea and walked into the bathroom to talk to Beth, who was towelling herself dry. Taking the towel he wrapped it around her and pulled her to him in a tight hug, kissing her wet face.
'What was that for?' She murmured...she certainly wasn't complaining.
'Just because...' He replied, kissing her neck.
Beth sighed contentedly. 'The worst thing about the past four weeks was being in the same room as you and not touching you...' She admitted it, wanting him to know.
'Oh God, I know what you mean. And I just couldn't stand hearing you cry yourself to sleep.' He stroked her damp hair and held her gently to him.
'Alan..do you want me to stay...I mean, move in..sort of?' She was uncertain, hesitant.
'I sort of thought you already had...'
He felt her smile and he smiled back, looking intently into her blue eyes. 'I love you, Beth.'
'I love you too.' Beth kissed him firmly on the lips, just so he got the message.
'I thought we could go to the sea today, what do you think? I'm not needed until Tuesday. When are you back at work?'
'Not until Tuesday!' Beth grinned at him.
'Well, go pack a bag, we can stay overnight. I need some fresh air after the last four weeks between here and the studio.'
'Great idea!' Beth laughed and threw the towel at him before skipping out of the room.
By lunchtime they were on the train, watching the scenery as it sped past the window, two paper cups with what passed for tea in front of them.

Alan had bought The Guardian and they sat together, brows furrowed as they looked at the crossword.
'I give up.' Alan said and put down his pen. He glanced around the carriage. It was empty apart from an elderly couple at the farthest end, the man, wearing a tweed flat cap, was sleeping, his wife knitting something with lilac wool.
'Beth, can I ask you something? His face was serious.
Beth nodded, taking a sip of tea.
'What about your Mum? What are you going to do?'
'I don't know Alan. I really don't.' Beth sighed deeply. ' I miss her, but I can't get my head around what she did and I don't know if I can forgive her, you know...' She gazed out of the window.
'Anyway...' She looked at him mischievously ' Let's talk about that another time. I don't want it to spoil our fun!'
Beth leaned towards Alan and kissed him deeply. He shifted his position as his dick pushed against the fabric of his jeans uncomfortably and gently pushed her away.
'Slow down, woman!' He hissed, laughing. 'We have an audience!'
He turned and smiled at the elderly lady who had watched their exchange and was sitting grinning at him. He nodded politely before turning to stare out of the window, his lips twitching.
Beth laughed so hard, tears fell down her face.
