Chapter Twenty-Nine

Rob couldn't stop thinking about Lex, he sat there, hearing Cecile's voice droning away in his ear but not hearing her words. He felt a sudden pain in his stomach when he realised that he was marrying her in a few days, going to have to live with her til he paid her off and then have to see her because they would have children. He imagined Lex sitting in a chair, nursing his child and he was unable to hold back the tears.

"I..uhm..got something in my eye. I'll be right back." He said heading for the men's room. He quickly walked through the labrynth of tables and made it inside, to a stall, where he locked the door and leaned his head against it. Silently crying huge body shaking sobs. Tears were streaming down his face and he covered it to keep from making noise. How had he gotten to this place? Crying in a public washroom over the only woman he had ever loved. Why didn't he just go to her and beg him to take him back, promise her anything she wanted. She didn't want him, that thought echoed through his mind and started a fresh wave of tears. He heard the door open and someone knock on his door.

"Rob? Are you in there?" He heard Jonny ask him.

"Yeah...I'll be out in a minute." Rob said, trying to sound normal but hearing it was obvious he had been crying.

"Rob, do you want to talk about it?"

"There's nothing to talk about." Rob said wiping his face with some tissue on the other side.

"Rob, grown men don't just cry in the middle of dinner unless something is wrong." Jon said, his own voice sounding close to tears, he couldn't stand to see Rob in such pain.

"Is it seeing Lex?" Jon asked, this resulted in a choking sound from Rob and Jon knew that it was, Lex that had caused this breakdown.

"It's just so overwhelming. I tried to convince myself that I was over her but seeing her today. It was like having my heart ripped out and then shove up my ass." Jon smiled sadly at Rob's words. So Rob still loved Lex, he had suspected as much.

"Rob, what are you doing with Cecile then? Why aren't you with Lex?" Jon didn't know exactly what had occured between Lex and Rob but he couldn't fathom being apart from Nikki.

"She doesn't want me. Told me so in a letter. And Cecile...well she's the first ex-Mrs. Williams. We'll have a couple of kids, I'll give her a large divorce settlement and spend some time with my kids." Rob said sadly, finally opening the door and stepping out.

"Rob, that is no way to go into a marriage, already planning to divorce her. Maybe you should cancel the wedding or at least postpone it." Jon said, his mind frantically working on a way to bring Lex and Rob together.

"No Lex, is happy with her life. I can not under any circumstances threaten her sobriety. Jonnny, leave it alone. I'll be fine. I always am." Rob said before he rinsed his face with cold water and dried it off.

"Whatever you decide I'm there for you." Jon said giving Rob a hug before they headed back to the table.

Gary unlocked the door to the apartment and was surprised to find it deathly silent.

"Lex?" He called out. There was no answer. She was supposed to be home from work by now, she was usually cooking dinner dancing to music when he got in. He looked in the kitchen and saw she wasn't there and that there was no food cooking.

"Lex?" He found her then in the bedroom. She was sitting on the floor, holding a piece of paper in her hands, earphones on, tears streaming down her face. He saw the shoebox on the floor and knew what was going on. She was crying of him, Rob. He kneeled down beside her and touched her knee. She jumped, startled at his touch.

"Gary, you frightened me." She said, she pulled the earphones off and he could hear Rob's voice singing out at him.

"Lex, this isn't right." He said to her.

"I'm sorry Gary, I won't do it again. It's just that I saw him today and it brought stuff back to me. I care about you I really do..."

"But you don't love me. You never have. It's okay Lex. You have never lied to me and I appreciate that. Now I am going to tell you the truth. I'm going to pack my stuff up and leave tonight. And you are going to phone him and talk to him, try to mend what's left of your relationship." Gary said to her.

"Gary no! Don't leave. We can make things work..."

"Lex, you tried, as hard as you could but you will never love me like you do him. And that's not fair to any of us, me, you or him."

"He's got a fiance. And he would never be able to forgive me the things I've done."

"Do you know that for sure? Has he told you that?" Gary asked, reaching for some tissues and passing them to Lex.

"No. I haven't actually talked to him since the night in the hospital."

"So you don't know for certain?" He said, rubbing her shoulder. She shook her head. "Then you need to find out. Expecially before he gets married."

"I don't know if I can." She admitted.

"Yes you can."

When Rob and Cecile got back to his apartment, he sat on his bed and stared off into space. Cecile came in and began to undress. She stood naked in front of the mirror, stroking the diamond necklace.

"I love this Robbie. Let me show you how much." She said coming over and dropping to her knees in front of him and began to undo his pants.

"No Cecile, don't I don't feel like it."

"Sure you do baby, you just need some help." She said stroking his dick.

"Stop it." He said loudly and stood up. She looked at him with wide eyes from the shock of him rejecting her. He tucked his dick back in his pants and walked to his desk and pulled out some papers.

"Here, you need to sign these before the wedding." He said dropping some papers on the bed in front of her.

"What is this?" She asked warily.

"A pre-nup."

"What? Why do we need this?" She asked standing up and reading the pages.

"Because I am worth a lot of money and I am not parting with half of it in case we divorce." He said lighting a cigarette.

"We'll be together forever." She said, not taking her eyes from the pages.

"I'm sure." Rob said sarcastically.

"This says I have to have 2 kids with in 5 years or I only get 10 million if we divorce." She said, her voice getting a bit high pitched.

"I want kids right away, this is just an incentive for you."

"I am not a fucking baby machine. Do you want a wife or a brood mare?" She asked angrilly.

"Can't you be both?" He asked with a laugh. He was suddenly feeling very light hearted. He knew she wouldn't sign it, his gut told him so and he felt fan- fucking- tastic.

"What? I though you loved me? Now I find out you want me to just be some sort of baby carrier."

"I'm sorry to be blunt Cecile, but that's all I want you for." Her face paled and she stormed over to her clothes and pulled them on.

"You bastard. I wouldn't marry you if you had ten times the amount of money." She said packing up one of her suit cases. He just watched her gather her belongings and when she turned to leave the apartment he stopped her.

"Cecile...wait." She turned to him with a smile on her face, feeling like she had bluffed him out and now she would have her way.

"Yes Robbie?"

"I'd like the necklace back, you can keep the ring."

"Bastard." She said flinging the necklace on the floor and stormed out. He began to sing.

"And that is why the lady is a tramp"
