Just a guy

.........We sat for hours...just chatting, and after I had finished telling him all about my stupid life up to present day he said.." Wow...thats quite a life youve had , it took you a long time to leave..."
I didnt really want to carry on this conversation about past things...my life was now, here, so I told him about my job offer. I could see him slowly smiling as I told him all the things I would have to do......and all the things I thought I couldnt do. When I had finished he looked at me and said " You will be perfect for this job.... youre friendly, witty,have a good brain and .....err...very attractive ".
I blushed slightly at his last remark...it was something I wasnt expecting...but it felt good.
He had already told as soon as I walked in the bar that his name was Jess.....and I knew that we would get along together. You know.....as soon as you meet a person you can tell within that first minute whether you like them or not......well I could tell we were going to be great friends.
I lookes at him and said.."Jess.........would you like to do me a big favour......I have to see this Alexei Yagudin person skate tonight......its just at the arena up the road.....would you like to go with me.....please ".
Jess threw headhead back and let out a laugh that was so infectious I had to laugh with him. " ME....you want ME to go see some guy prancing around an ice rink.......my mates would never let me live it down"...." Oh.....is that a no then "...I said feeling a little dissappointed. " Its ok, if its not your thing........it really doesnt matter"...Jess leaned over the bar and said " Of course I will go......not for the skating......but because I like you, and maybe we can go for a meal after.........just dont tell my mates "....and once again he burst out laughing.....and so did I. I liked this guy.....I liked this guy very much.
We arranged to meet at the bar that evening, and I made a special effort to look my best. Jess also looked so handsome in his faded jeans and snug fitting sweater, this was going to be a great night .......I could feel it. We had a few drinks in the bar and then our way to the rink. When we got there I showed my pass to the security and was ushered into the front seats, nearly sitting on the ice. Jess said smiling "they are making sure you dont miss anything, we could almost skate with them sitting here"....I looked at him and said " Please dont make me laugh while they are performing......it wont go down very well, Im supposed to be taking all this in and learning ".
He took my hand and said " Dont be so serious ...youll do fine ". The lights went down and a young girl skated on to the ice...Sasha I think her name was, and she was very good. This was just my oppinion ..which wasnt worth much as she was the first skater I had ever seen. She finished her performance and suddenly all the audience stood up , they were shouting and screaming and clapping........then on to the ice came the good looker I had seen in the office. He was obviously very popular and well liked by the crowd. He stood in the middle of the rink letting the applause wash over him, smiling and waving. I settled in to watch ... and Jess took hold of my hand. "This is the guy Ive been sent to watch "..I said, squeezing his hand " Be quiet and let me do my job ".
Jess had a quiet giggle and like me settled down and watched the performance.................
