All souls
That night Jay was crying out in his sleep. "Stop it... STOP IT!" He was yelling. I sat up and looked over at him. He was thrashing around, clearly in the grip of a nightmare. I hadn't been able to sleep, and I'd spent most of the day curled up in a corner of my bed, smoking when the urge would hit me and lost in thought. Amir had gotten me off like no one would believe, I was still feeling the after effects and it had been hours ago. Like he'd just gotten off of me. The encounter had been more heated by Tara, she'd grabbed my arms when I'd grabbed onto her, my head in her lap. Her staring at me with those emotionless eyes... It gave me chills. And what her gaze had done to Ryan! He completely forgot everything from when he'd walked in the room, like he'd been hypnotized. But one thing had been confirmed. While Jay might be alot to handle, he wasn't crazy. And I didn't want to be like Amir. So, mustering what little courage I had, I went over to Jay's bed and shook him awake.
Jay let out a scream and sat up. "NO! Oh... Paige? What's wrong?" He asked, fingers tracing over my lips. "I need your cross Jay." He shook his head, saying, "Sorry man, you can't have it. I have a spare, do you want it?" I nodded and he reached under his pillow, pulling out a small silver cross with a delicate chain. As I recalled it had been a gift from his mother on her last visit. When she didn't come anymore, I thought she'd died. Turned out she just couldn't handle Jay being in here. "You sure? I mean..." "Take it, that bitch is the one who put me in here in the first place." Jay muttered. "Um, Jay, question, what does this do to people who've been bitten but aren't vampires? Need to make sure I'm safe and all." I said as I held the chain. Jay looked at me, then scooted closer to me. He leaned in, his hand on one side of my face, eyes searching mine. "What's wrong Paige?" "Nothing..."
Jay sighed, then brought his face close to my own, his lips lightly brushing mine, his tongue flicking out and running along my upper lip. I felt goose bumps rise up on my skin as his tongue came deeper into my mouth. This was not the ferocity of Amir, but a gentleness that I couldn't understand as to where it came from. Jay sighed as he pulled away from me, laying another quick kiss on my cheek. "He bit you when he kissed you didn't he?" Jay asked. I nodded and Jay put the chain over my head then around my neck. "This'll protect you. Why do you think I never take mine off?" He asked. I looked at him, eyebrows knitted in confusion. He sighed and leaned back against the wall, drawing out a cigarette and lighting it. As he took a drag he said, "I wasn't always in here, I was in college studying to be a sound engineer. Then I met a girl and we went back to my dorm. Turned out she was a vampire, and she fed off me as we fucked. She made a mistake though, she gave me some of her blood on accident. I bit her back when she bit me, hard enough that I tasted her. So now I know everything about them. I can hear and send telepathic messages, I know all their powers, alot of their history and their powers and weaknesses."
"Why does this work?" I asked, holding up the cross. "It's actually not the cross itself, it's the silver. Silver has some kind of power since it represents the moon. And the full moon makes vampires weak, it's why Amir doesn't go out much." Jay said, staring at his own cross which he now held in his hand. He'd finished his cigarette and stabbed it out on the wall. "So what happened with this chick?" I asked, curious. "She disapeared once I figured out how to keep her away from me. But she sent Amir after me to make sure no one believed me. He's the one who convinced my mom to dump me in this place. I still dream about her, and sometimes Amir too... It's why I'm always screaming in my sleep." Jay said, staring at the wall disdainfully. "Is that why Amir is here? To keep tabs on you?" I asked, hardly believing it. "And psychologically torture me. And others..." Suddenly Jay's head shot up and he looked around, the door creaked open and Lia stood in the doorway.
She looked like the proverbial angel, her hair falling around here in waves (which I almost never got to see), long white nightgown brushing the floor as it reflected the moon light. "Lia, honey we have a problem." Jay said as she came into the room. She looked at us curiously and Jay stood, taking her into his arms. "Honey, Amir got Paige, he bit him." Lia pulled back and looked at me, then crawled onto the bed. She stared into my eyes for a minute and it seemed like an eternity. I nearly passed out under the weight of her silver gaze. "We can save him, he doesn't want to be one. Just need to do a full moon ritual and he'll be fine." Lia said. I looked from one to the other of them and Jay explained. "Lia is a witch, Amir figured that out when she first started working here and he tried to kill her." Jay said, running a hand through her hair. "It's how I realized I am what I am. I stay here to keep Amir trapped." She explained, smiling at me. Jay settled on the bed again and I just stared at the two of them.
"You can't be serious... You're terrified of Amir.! And most guys too." I said, still trying to get over the shock. "Well actually I'm more scared of Tara. Tara is what happens to a witch when a vampire manages to break one. And I'm not afraid of men, it's an act. Being crazy is really an act." Lia said, looking sad. "Amir dragged Tara here and fed off her in front of us. Lia tried to save her but... Well, you've seen her." Jay said, looking sad and putting his arm around Lia. "And I'm what happens when a vampire doesn't finish the job..." Jay muttered to himself. "What's wrong Jay?" I asked, curious. "Did you ever stop to think of why I'm a nympho Paige? Why I have to have it from you or Bobby or even sometimes Lia?" He said, looking at me calmly. "No, I never really thought about it." I told him honestly. "It's a side effect of the vampire bite, it'll happen to you too even with the full moon ritual. Your body will crave sex... I'm sorry." Lia said, staring at the floor. "How bad will it be?" "You'll need release once a day." Jay said sighing.
"Jeez Jay you must be ready to burst." I told him, I knew he hadn't fucked anyone that day. He hadn't touched me and Bobby was out of town. "It's what I'm doing here..." Lia told Paige, running a hand through Jay's hair. "Thanks Lia, thank you so much... Paige I need you to leave, okay?" Jay said, his breathing becoming raggid all of a sudden. I moved off the bed as Lia lay down and Jay stradled her.
