Ville threw himself onto his bed in dispair. He was about to start verbally abusing himself when his door opened.

"What the hell is your problem?"

At Bam's voice, Ville sat up so quickly that he almost fell off the edge of the bed. "What are you doing in my room?" Ville demanded

"I want to know what your issue is and what you just said in Spanish."

"It was Finnish, not Spanish, moron." Ville said rolling his eyes.

Bam at least had the decency to look embarrassed. "Yeah well I wasn't listening when Ape told me where you were from. So what did you say?"

Ville thought quickly of something believable. "I uh, I apologized for bumping into you. Sometimes I switch back to Finnish without realizing it."

Luckily for him, Bam believed him. "Oh right. I thought you might have been swearing at me or something. Listen, at school tomorrow, we should really pretend we should pretend we don't know each other. I mean, I don't know about you but I don't want people thinking we hang out together."

Ville stared at him incredulously. "You're an asshole, get the fuck out of my room."

Bam left without another word, something that Ville was thankful for as he wasn't sure how much longer he'd have been able to control his temper.

Bam went back to his room, angry at himself for the way he'd acted. Ville was just so beautiful and delicate, and he got under his skin in a way that no one else had ever been able to. He hated it and he knew that if his friends found out that he'd had a few less than pure thoughts about the schools goth freak, they'd never stop teasing him.

In an effort to foget his traitorous thoughts, he grabbed his board and headed off to the skate park for a couple of hours free of torment.

The rest of the day went without incident but the hostile tension between the two boys was obvious to everyone.

The next few days flew by and both boys continued to battle with themselves about the feelings they were both trying to deny. They both disliked each other intently for what the other was but there was something that drew them to each other.

Bam watched as Ville walked past him in the school yard, chatting animatedly with his friend. Their eyes met for a second before Ville abruptly turned his back on him and walked away. Bam knew that Ville was just doing as he'd asked but he still felt an unwanted twinge of pain.

His eyes unwillingly drew themselves to Ville everytime they were in the same room and he found himself wondering how he'd missed seeing Ville before.

When school finally let out, Bam met up with his friends Raab and Dico as usual so they could walk home together. As he reached the gates, he saw Ville deep in conversation with a member of the football team. He frowned slightly, confused as he remembered Ville telling him that he hated the jocks but he didn't have time to think about it as his crazy friends dragged him, laughing, down the road.

He got home to find his mom and Anita having a cup of tea together in the lounge.

"Hey."

"Hi honey." Ape smiled. "Where's Ville?"

"I don't know. He was talking to someone at school when I left so he'll probably be home soon. Anyway, I'm gonna go and get this stupid essay done before Mr. Lydon kills me for not doing my school work."

"Alright honey, I'll call you when dinner is ready."

He went upstairs to his bedroom and tried to concentrate on the essay but his mind kept wandering back to seeing Ville at the gates with the jock. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Ville had obviously lied to him to make him feel sorry for him and the worst thing was, it had worked. Bam hated being treated like an idiot and he planned to have words with the Finn as soon as he got back.

He switched on his cd player and focused on his homework, knowing that if he failed English his parents would make him go to summer school so he got his grades. He was so lost in his writing and Turbonegro blasting out of his stereo that he didn't notice that Ville had come home until he heard him yelling from his bedroom.

"I HATE YOU. STAY OUT OF MY LIFE."

The shouting stopped and Bam heard banging and the sound of Ville weeping. He thought about going to see what was wrong but he was still angry so he avoided going over to the older boys room.

Bam started to get curious when the crying stopped suddenly and there was complete silence that seemed to stretch out for hours.

Bam stormed over to Ville's room, determined to find out what was going on. He didn't bother knocking, opting instead to walk straight in, and what he saw made all the colour drain from his face. Ville was covered in cuts and bruises like he'd been badly beaten but the first thing that Bam noticed was the empty bottles of vodka and pills laying around his still figure.

Bam stood, shocked for a few moments before the adreneline kicked in. He ran over to the bed, checking Ville's pulse and calling out for help.

"APE, PHIL, GET UP HERE QUICK." He let out a sigh of relief as he found a weak pulse. As he heard footsteps coming up the stairs, he ran to meet them.

"Quickly, call an ambulance." He begged.

"What? What's going on Bam?" Ape said, starting to panic.

"It's Ville. He's overdosed on asprin and vodka. He still has a pulse but we need to get him to the hospital."

Ape flew down the stairs as quick as she could and dialed for an ambulance, her heart pounding. After giving all the information to the hospital's phone operator, she ran back upstairs to find Bam dragging an unconcious Ville into the bathroom.

"Bam, what are you doing?" She screeched, horrified.

"I'm gonna put him under the shower to wake him up and then I'm gonna try to get him to throw up the tablets." Bam replied like it was obvious. "Where's Ville's mom?"

"She went out to meet someone and she doesn't have a cell phone. We'll have to go with him and leave her a message for when she gets back."

She helped Bam get the boy into the shower and waited nervously as Bam switched the cold water on and sprayed it over Ville's head. A few minutes later Ville started spluttering weakly as he woke.

"Ville, are you with us? Talk to us."

Bam grabbed Ville's arms and pulled him out of the shower and over to the sink where Ape immediately wrapped in a fluffy towel.

"Ville, you need to be sick. I know it's gross but we have to get the pills out of your body." Bam said softly.

"Goway." Ville slurred, not totally concious. "Just leave me alone."

"Not gonna happen, so work with us to help you."

"No."

"Damnit, just puke already." Bam was getting frustrated and the ambulance seemed to be taking forever to arrive. In a desperate attempt to get Ville to throw up, he grabbed a toothbrush out of the holder and forced Ville's mouth open, pushing the toothbrush into Ville's mouth until it hit his gag reflex.

Bam winced in digust as it worked and Ville started to throw up all that he'd taken, sighing in relief when he finally heard the siren as the ambulance neared.

April went with Ville in the ambulance and Bam followed in a taxi after leaving notes for Phil and Anita. Ape met him by the entrance when he arrived and together they went to the relatives room to wait for news on Ville's condition. They's sat in nervous silence for about twenty minutes when a doctor poked hi head round the door.

"Mrs Margera?"

"Yes that's me, is he going to be ok?"

"He's going to be fine although if it hadn't been for your son acting so quickly, I'm not sure he would have lived."

"Can we see him now?"

"I suppose that would be ok, just one person at a time though. We'll be keeping him here overnight for observation."

"Ok, thank you doctor."

The doctor left and Ape turned to Bam. "Honey, I'm so proud of you. You were so calm and you saved his life." She hugged him and instead of pulling away like usual, he relaxed into the embrace, the shock of what had happened finally hitting him.

"I think you should go in first. I'll wait here for Anita." Ape said, giving Bam a little push in the direction of the door. Bam agreed buy found himself standing outside Ville's door, not particularly wanting to go in.

**Why the hell am I doing this? I don't like him and I don't know what to say to him**

"You know, you can go in!" an amused voice came from behind him. Bam turned around to see a nurse standing there a smile on her face.

"I know, I just...I don't know what to say to him."

"Just speak to him like you usually do. He won't want you to be any different towards him."

**yeah that's what you think** Instead of voicing his opinion, he just smiled his thanks and pushed open the door hoping that Ville was asleep.

"Why didn't you just leave me? You don't even like me so why bother?"

Bam sighed heavily. Ville was obviously awake which meant akward conversation. He slumped down in one of the chairs next to the bed.

"I dunno, probably cos I didn't want a corpse in my house." He said sarcastically.

"Fine. Fuck off then and leave me alone."

"What the hell do you want form me? I was only joking and you make it really difficult for me to like you when you're always swearing and hurling abuse at me."

"I know what your type are like. You make people trust you and then you hurt them."

"It's happened to you before hasn't it." It was a statement, not a question as Bam could easily see the answer in Ville's eyes. "What happened today? I'm guessing that the jock you were talking to was the one who caused all your bruises but I don't believe that you tried to kill yourself because of him, especially because I heard you yelling at someone on the phone just before you did it."

The events of the day had been draining for Ville and having someone speaking to him as though they cared was too much for his raw emotions. He didn't trust Bam at all but he'd kept it all inside for so long and he needed to talk to someone.

"I met this guy in my last school. He was one of the jocks but he always seemed so nice. I started dating him secretly because his friends were homophobic so he didn't want them to know. He was the first guy I ever slept with but he left as soon as it was over and the next day he told everyone that I'd tried to force myself on him. His friends beat me up so bad that I had to go to hospital."

Ville took a deep breath to calm himself and continued with his story. "When I was there I came out to my parents and they seemed fine with it but as soon as my mum went to get a drink my father told me that he hated me, that I was a useless queer and that he couldn't stand to look at me. He used to hit me after that but I never told my mum because it would have upset her too much. That's why he left, because he couldn't stand having a son like me."

Bam was horrified at what Ville had been through but he had no idea what he could do to help. "Is that why you tried to kill yourself?"

"Kind of. I just can't take it any more." Ville was crying by now, the feelings of self loathing getting too much. "I tried not to be gay, I promise. I tried not to be a bad person but I can't help it and mum is meeting my father now and if they get back together he'll start hitting me again but if I tell her it's my fault he left she'll hate me and she won't love me any more."

Ville dissolved into heart wrenching sobs and Bam felt tears of sympathy prick at his eyes. He climbed onto the bed next to Ville and akwardly put his arm around the trembling figure.

"You need to tell her. She'll understand and she won't hate you. Even I can tell that and I'm a self centred bastard most of the time!" He joked and he got a small smile in response.

Bam could tell that Ville was starting to fall asleep so he got up to leave.

"Are you going to be alright?"

Ville nodded sleepily. "Yeah thanks."

"No problem. Oh, and there's nothing wrong with being gay. Your father is just narrow minded. You're not a bad person Willa."

"My name's Ville."

"Sorry, I don't know where that came from."

"It's ok. Willa's cute." Ville mumbled, falling asleep.

"Yeah. Yeah he is." Bam whispered to himself, brushing a stray bit of hair from Ville's face. He turned to leave but he couldn't resist turning to look one more time at the sleeping boy before he closed the door behind him.
