Ch 3

Sometimes I wonder if my parents took home the wrong child from the hospital. I've heard of things like that happening. I have a hunch that somewhere out there is my parent's biological daughter who would know better than to follow strange boys into alleys and let them talk her into breaking school rules. No, my parent's child would go to school, earn her grades, go to college, get a job, grow up, and eventually die. My parent's daughter would not have been born dead like I was, and would not have needed a mysterious stranger to bring her to life. No. Someone really should tell the doctor's they made a mistake.

I felt a rush of adrenaline when we set foot on the foreboding asphault of the student parking lot. What was I doing here again? One glance to him standing by my side was all the answer I needed. We walked in silence to my rusted yellow bug. I felt a blush embarrassment spread across the bridge of my nose as we approached my car. It wasn't much, but it was my baby, though I could see how others might view it as more of a monster. It was ancient, and in need of a new... well, everything. But Gerard seemed to pay no mind to my death trap of a vehicle. Instead he stood patiently to the side while I fumbled with my keys. The death trap was so old that it wasn't blessed with an automatic unlock button to press. I pulled the driver side door open and climbed in, leaning over the back of the seat to grab his coat off the floor in the back. As I slid back up into my seat I'm almost positive I had a small heartattack. There, in the passenger seat was Gerard. I stared at him, my mouth open. I couldn't have been leaned back there for more than a few seconds.
"That door was still locked." I stared at him with wide eyes. He just smiled and shrugged, taking the keys from my hand and turning them in the ignition. I just sat in my seat, my mind still buzzing with his sudden appearance in my car. I wasn't even able to be surprised when he leaned over my lap to reach and close my door.
"Wh-What are we doing?" I asked dumbly, handing him his coat.
"I don't feel like school lunch today, do you?" I must have looked at him like he was insane, because he gave me a sympathetic smile. "We're skipping, Sugar. Now drive me away from this institution of fine learning." He made an elaborate gesture with his hand towards to exit of the parking lot and I just shook my head, dumbfounded. Why was I listening to this incredibly good looking maniac? Oh, the trouble I'd be in if we were caught. Panic seeped through me, but his presence in the seat next to me seemed to calm me, and I was able to drive out of the parking lot without having a breakdown. Once we were on the main road, things became easier. I steadied my breathing and dared a glance at him while we idled at a stoplight. He had already been looking at me, so our eyes met and I gave him a nervous smile. He seemed undisturbed that I had caught him staring at me.
"Tellmemoreaboutyou." I blurted nervously, accidentally pressing on the gas too hard as we started off again. He was silent for a moment before he spoke.
"What do you want to know?"
I hadn't expected that from him, so I took a turn at being silent while I chewed it over in my mind, I decided to start with the basics.
"What's your last name?" I risked another glance, only to see him gazing out of my passenger window.
"Way."
"Well Gerard Way, where am I driving you to, might I ask?"
He looked back at me with a heart-breakingly handsome smile, his eyes sparkling.
"How do you feel about Italian?"
"Italian?" I asked questioningly, my eyebrows knitting together. "It's fine I suppose. Do you know a good place to get some?"
He let out a small laugh and continued to smile, leaning back in his seat and placing his hands behind his head. "I think I know an alright place."
