Chapter 3

Mike was stuck in the fucking waiting room. He wasn't allowed ro go back into the ER because, "technically," he wasn't family. He'd cussed the doctor and ripped the nurse up one side and down the other already. He was so pissed off. She was his FIANCE! No one of her family was even NEAR California. He spent the entire night pacing, until the clock on the wall struck 2am. He then collapsed into a chair. God dammit! What was taking them so long? Finally, FINALLY, a door opened. He flew to his feet. It was the nurse.

"She's fine," the nurse told him. He sighed and fell back into his chair. The nurse looked back at the doctor who had just walked through the same door. Mike looked at him, standing back up. The doctor smiled what seemed like a strained smirk. He sighed.

"She's going to be fine," he said, "We had to do a little bit of work." Mike looked at him oddly. The doctor sighed.

"There was quite a deep and long gash in her left wrist," he said, "We obviously has to stitch that up." Mike nodded. "It took about 24 stitches." Mike threw his head back, horrfied by this news. The doctor took a deep breath.

"Unfortunately," he started. Mike looked back at him, pale now. There was more? "She also broke the wide bone in the heel of her palm. We can't cast it until the stitches come out." Mike bit his lip.

"She's sleeping right now," the doctor said, "But you can go back and sit with her." Mike nodded. He'd just turned to go into the ER when the outside door opened and Mike watched Matt, Jade's bassist, and Sabastien, her drummer, walk in. They greeted him quietly, walking the doctor and nurse walk away. Mike sighed.

"How is she?" Matt asked. Mike nodded.

"She's going to be okay," he said, "Just some stitches and a broken hand." Mike sighed. THis was the second time Jade had broken her left arm in a year.

"What the Hell happened on that stage?" Mike asked. Matt sighed.

"I don't know what was wrong with her," he said.

"What do you mean?" Mike questioned.

"She fainted," Matt said, "Or passed out, I'm not sure. But she fell."

"She looked pretty sick," Sabastien pointed out, "She was holding her stomach."

"I tried to see what was wrong," Matt said, "But then that stupid rigging came loose." Mike cut him off.

"Wait a minute," he spat, "You were there?" Matt nodded.

"Of course," he said, "I was checking her after she fainted." Mike suddenly glared at him.

"You were there when the rigging fell and you didn't get her out of the way?!" he growl. Matt looked at him.

"I didn't have time, Mike!" he tried to justify himself. Mike chuckled.

"Listen," Matt said, "I'm sorry, okay? It was instinct to get the Hell out of the way. You would have done the same thing." Mike suddenly flew at him.

"HEY!" Sabastien slammed an arm onto Mike's chest, holding him back as best he could.

"I would have fucking jumped in front of her! I would have let it hit ME!" Mike screamed, "She could have died, you son-of-a-bitch!" Matt stared at him. He knew that he should have gotten her out of the way, but he was so afraid. Mike stepped back, still pissed off. He didn't even give Matt and Sabastien a second glance. He walked back to the ER. He sighed once he was in Jade's room, sitting down. Save for a black and blue bruise on her right cheek and a bandage up and down her left wrst, she looked fine. He sighed and leaned back in his seat. The nurse walked in.

"She'll probably sleep through the night," she told Mike. He nodded.

"This was on her hand," she said and handed him a silver, diamond band. Mike took it from her. It was the engagement ring. Mike suddenly found that he only had eyes for that stupid ring. The corners of his eyes started to burn. He loved her so much. He sniffed. He didn't want to cry in front of this nurse. He sighed, biting his lip, and closed a fist around the ring. She took a deep breath.

"She's going to be in a lot of pain when she wakes up," she said. Mike looked at her.

"Can't you just give her pain medicine?" he asked.

"Well, the doctor doesn't think that's such a good idea in her current predicament," the nurse replied.

"Predicament? What do you mean?" Mike asked.

"You don't know?" the nurse stared at him.

"Know what?" Mike's heart was hammering.

"She's pregnant."
