Chapter 03

--------------------
"Oh my God! Oh my God, what should I do?" Mika suddenly shouted, and everyone turned to look at her, wondering what was wrong, "Where am I going to put Ruki's flower when I'm dancing? I don't want to squish it~!"
The other girls wanted to hit her because they thought it was something important ... or rather, more important than that. Ai looked from Mika to the flower, then she grabbed Megumi's bag from under her seat and started going through it. She ignored the loud 'HEY~!' from Megumi as Kikyo tried to quiet her down by both placing a hand each over Megumi's mouth. People were looking weirdly at them. Ai pulled out a hair clip and set the bag down. Megumi settled down as Ai held up the hair clip up show what she was doing, resulting in a long 'Ooohhh' from Megumi.
"Mika, Ai's got a hair-clip so hold still while she fixes your little dilemma", Kira said sarcastically, as she leaned back so Ai could reach Mika, "Ai you'd better hurry up, the concert will probably start soon".
Ai leaned across Kira and snatched to flower out of Mika's hands, which made Mika reach out her hands like she was a baby reached out for a bottle. Kira smacked her hands with a laugh as Mika pouted and made a little whiney noise. Ai was working on Mika's hair for a few seconds. She stopped suddenly and held her hands up to show she was done before sitting up straight.
"Wow that looks really cute, where's a mirror when you need one?" Megumi said cheerfully as she applauded Ai's handy work and quickly took her cell-phone to take a photo, "Now if only Ruki could see you wearing it~! It's so lucky you got this from him ..."
The flower was now in Mika's hair with the clip. It was weaved into her hair so you didn't notice the clip as much - at least it would hold it there all night. Ai quickly said thank you to Megumi, who nodded as she replaced her bag properly under her seat. Mika was smiling brightly and Kikyo was laughing at how childish she looked.
"You are such a big kid sometimes Mika ... I'm almost embarrassed to be seen with you", Kikyo joked as Mika looked at her in a fake shock, before Kikyo cuddled her, "I'm kidding, I'm kidding~! You are our big kid~! "
The other girls laughed as Kikyo hugged the poor girl so tightly. Kikyo was about two inches taller than Mika and much stronger, so the poor girl couldn't escape the tight cuddle. Ai and Megumi were hanging off each other as they laughed at the spectacle, while Kira was covering her mouth and trying not to laugh too hard. All of them were sure they were being stared at but they didn't care.
"Kikyo I think you should stop, she's turning bright red now~! Your killing her~!" Ai said in between laughs as she willed herself to calm down, "Don't exhaust her yet, the concert hasn't even started. You don't want to carry her out of here do you?"
Kikyo made an 'oh' sound before quickly letting Mika go and saying continuous apologies. Mika kept saying she was fine and placed a hand over Kikyo's mouth to shut her up. Suddenly the lights dimmed and Mika instantly stood up against the railing; her friends copied her. Ai was smiling and so was Kira. Megumi and Kikyo were gripping each other's hand tightly and fidgeting in anticipation.
Then 'The End' started playing over the loud speakers, which made the whole audience scream and jump up from their seats. Every single one started clapping along to the beat of the song, which prompted Mika, Ai, Kikyo, Megumi and Kira to follow along too.

Each of the guys thanked the man who lead them up to the side stage and confirmed they were looking forward to the after party. It had been a while since they had an after party from a gig - or maybe it was just their excuse to have a few well-earned drinks, much to Reita's insistence. But all Uruha and Aoi were concerned about was their routine cigarette. Anyway once the man had left, it was just the five of them standing and waiting for the opening. Plus a couple of side-stage camera-men and technical engineers ready to manage problems, if any. But if it was one thing the guys knew - the final concert was always flawless ... but because it wasn't actually a final, would that make a difference? They didn't care. All that was on their mind was showing the fans a good time and nothing was going to ruin it.
"Ah I can't wait to get this concert under way. With the trouble we had arriving here, I'm itching to get out there", Reita said swaying from side-to-side as he rubbed his hands and then he clapped once, "Now why don't we psyche ourselves up and go destroy this crowd?"
"Best idea I've heard all day. And I need something to take my mind off not having a smoke for the last half hour", Aoi said as a joke, which he received a few taunts for and he laughed, "Aww come on, give me a break. I got all of here, so you owe me one".
So all of them bent down and formed their 'chant-circle', something that they just couldn't leave out before a live. Kai bobbed a couple of times, began with his primary chant and he received shouts from each of the others. Then following the dimming of the lights, 'The End' starting playing over the loud speakers and not even five seconds into the song the guys could hear the audience clapping and chanting along to the beat. It brought back memories of their Nameless Liberty Final - the best feeling ever; listening to the cheering as they walked up to the stage. The whole dome was completely dark except for five single bright white spotlights that lit up Kai's drums, Reita's bass, Aoi and Uruha's guitars and Ruki's platform.
"Wow ... well, the stage is certainly big enough. I think they've recycled our stage from Nameless Liberty", Uruha joked, as he squinted through the darkness and focused on the spot-lights which allowed a little bit of light on the stage and he then glanced up, "Ah, seeing there are no balconies, the roof is a bit lower. That won't reverberate sound too much will it?"
"The did make the roof a bit lower but no, sound won't echo. They've designed the roof with rifts, to help absorb some of the reverb", Kai explained, pointing up to rows and rows of ridges cut into the ceiling as the others followed his gesture, "But we can marvel at the interior later, lets go put on a good show~!"
The stage was exactly how Kai had confirmed it was - exactly like their performance in Budoukan, but the run-ways that would normally stretch up to the balcony seats were replaced by a slightly lower section of stage that stretch out in front of Ruki's little platform. As previously mentioned, the stage was only a few feet away from the audience and came just up to chest height, but the main part was a foot higher.
As each of the guys assumed their positions and made their instruments ready, they made sure to stay out of the spotlights; only wanting to make a big entrance with their first song. While 'The End' was in its last thirty seconds, Ruki quickly kneeled down next to his microphone stand - out of the spot-light of course - and made one last glance over the set-list; he read the songs quickly to get a feel of it.
"Eto ... Filth, Crucify, Regret, Worthless, Shadow, Bathroom, Cassis, Baretta, Cockroach, Silly God, Reila, Carry, Maximum, Saraba, Anti Pop, Hanakotoba, Anata no Tame, Discharge ..." Ruki said so quickly that anyone else would think he was talking gibberish, "Encore - Linda, Ray, Best Friends ... phew, it's going to be an interesting night. Half of these songs we hardly play anymore ..."
* * *
As 'The End 'was finishing, the five single spot-lights that light the guys places suddenly went out and the stage was dark again. The crowd screamed a bit louder, and instinctively, so did the girls. The clapping and chanting had now stopped, and it was growing eerily quieter since there was still no movement from the stage. The girls all looked at each other questioningly, wondering what the hold-up was. The concert had obviously started; they had just played 'The End'. The atmosphere was so full of suspense that a few rows back from the front row where the girls were, another fan sounded like she was crying, mumbling something about 'Where are they~!' Even the girls were thinking the same thing. They had seen the five spot-lights and thought that each of the guys could be seen from them but turned out they were wrong - they just lit the places the guys were to be.
Suddenly background music for 'Filth in the Beauty' began playing and random flashes of light-beams rained down at difference spots of the stages. Some were falling upon the guys. Kai was perched up on his drums and twirling one of his sticks between his fingers, a big grin on his face. Reita had his left foot propped up on Kai's drumming platform, bass in hands and looking a little menacing as usual. Uruha was staring out at the audience with one arm raised to the cheering crowd, guitar at the ready. Aoi also held his own guitar but rather than staying still, he was dancing around to the opening music - he was gorgeous and he knew it. Lucky for him, Aoi's 'skirt' had been tailored especially for the concert in a way that it didn't tangle around his legs when moving around the stage. Ruki had both hands gripping the microphone on its stand, his head hanging just in between his arms as he waited for his big entrance. Now that the guys could be seen, the crowd just flared up with cheers and clapping; fans in the first five rows reached up to the stage.

Through the whole song, the crowd did once quiet down. During the verses they waved their arms in circular motions; during the chorus it was one big mosh-pit. Ruki naturally joined them by jumping too, one foot up on his platform like he normally did. The girls couldn't help but laugh and jump silly when it came to the verses - from the very first time they heard 'Filth in the Beauty', they call thought it was an amazing song. Though being a little scared of Ruki's lyrics, the music was very unique and sounded great on the CD. Hearing it live - it was even better. As the song was now coming to an end, on the last few drum beats, the crowd made one last big jump and come thundering down. It then followed with screaming, cheering, clapping, whatever else you can imagine of a hyped up audience. All that was heard after the song was the slight 'screaming' sound that came from Aoi and Uruha's guitars. They took a few seconds to pull themselves together for the next song.
* * *
By the end of 'Filth in the Beauty' the whole audience was on their feet and holding up 'Rock On' hand signals. They were desperate to hear more. And now that the stage was fully lit up, the guys could now get a better look at their surroundings. The stage was definitely Budoukan all over again, and hanging up along the back wall behind Kai was a huge banner made just for this live. It had 'One Night Stand' scrawled across it in what looking like scribbled handwriting. The background picture behind the writing was of a women's bare back from the waist up, and a pair of large masculine hands gripping at her back from the front. The man was obviously hidden by the women - a very suggestive image but it fit the title of the gig.
The girls felt a little bit embarrassed by the image on the banner but quickly dismissed it to keep watching their favourite guys. Megumi had he sight on Kai smiling brightly behind his drum-set, a fan sitting just behind him on the floor made his hair flutter around his face. Kira was laughing at Reita who was holding up two 'Rock On' signs along with the audience. Ai couldn't help but stare as Aoi absentmindedly reached up underneath his silver jacket to scratch his stomach; waiting for Ruki to signal the next song. Kikyo giggled when watching Uruha - he was just standing normally until he looked at the audience and ruffled the feathers on the left-hand shoulder of his white vest, stinking his tongue out as he did so. Mika was watching as Ruki gripped the microphone and yanked it off the stand so he could jump up onto his little platform. As he raised his arms out to the sit, the guys realised it was now time for the next song - Crucify Sorrow. Aoi and Uruha stood behind their acoustic guitars and began with the opening ...

During the acoustic guitar opening of 'Crucify Sorrow', Kikyo was marvelling at how cool it sounded. She was studying guitar and she always tried to play acoustic sections of some Gazette songs. Then after the opening the crowd began to jump again along to the beat. When Ruki sang '[kankaku wa yume wo fuyuu shiteru you de]' and '[soshite hai ni iki tsuku no]' some fans swung their arms around in circular motions in the air along to the beat. Even when Ruki sang 'So long me ...' they did the same thing. Mika, Kikyo, Ai, Megumi and Kira all knew how to do it too so they joined in. Again when Aoi and Uruha did their acoustic piece with 'So long me ...' Kikyo was again watching. She knew how hard it was to play that fast and she admired them to be able to do it. She wished that if only she could get some pointers from them. At the end of the song, Ruki walked around in a circle and held the sweatband around his wrist to his forehead - second song and he was already raining sweat.

NOTES:
1) Recycled 'Nameless Liberty' stage: This is what the 'One Night Stand' stage looks like, but without the words painted across it
2) Lyrics for the songs: While I'm writing about the concert, the lyrics will describe exactly what Ruki sings
Please read & review :-)
