Suicide and Redemption

He slowly pulled open the fogged shower door and stepped out. His limbs were made of lead and his heart was hanging in tatters in his chest. Lethargically he wiped most of the moisture off his body and pulled on a pair of black and purple striped boxers, then shuffled to the sink.

He wiped the condensation off the mirror with his hand and found his dull and broken brown eyes staring back at him. Without warning the eyes filled with pain and his torn heart was shredded even further. Crystalline tears slid silently from his eyes and down his cheeks where they crashed to the unyielding granite of the sink. Their flexible bodies were undamaged by the horrifying impact, they only shattered into other smaller droplets of water. Humans were not so lucky.

When humans hit the ground they still shattered, but they were anything but unscathed. Dark blood and creamy bone stained and littered the gray sidewalk. The harsh screams of the people below could be heard even four stories up. More of the immortal tears fell to the cold stone.

The condensation was beginning to melt away from the rest of the mirror, he wasn’t sure how long he had been there staring into his own broken soul. He looked down and the tears fell without care two at a time.

Brian

The voice could have been nothing more than his mind tormenting him again. He’d been hearing their voices and their laughs for a week now. He had seen them everywhere too. On the news, in the magazines, online, and their faces were etched into the darkness behind his eyelids.

Brian

He looked up and his chest clinched painfully. Familiar hazel and emerald eyes met his muddy brown. Zack’s lips curved into a familiar smile. He turned around, the doorway was empty; but when he turned back they were still there, faint, but there nonetheless. His legs went out from beneath him and his knees and shins hit the tiled floor with painful force, but it was numb.

A cold hand brushed across his cheek, wiping away the new tears before they could fall. A sob choked out of him and two arms wrapped around his shoulders. Whispered voices that couldn’t be heard any further away than his own ears soothed the pain in his heart. Hushed words of forgiveness and peace swirled around him, freezing caresses chilled his skin, and frigid kisses of air pressed against his temple.

“I’m sorry.” His pained whisper was a thunderclap in the unnatural silence of the room. The near silent words in his ear began to fade and the strong arms that held him drew back. The tears came again; his heart was again ripped open, “I’m sorry, don’t leave. Don’t go again. Don’t leave me again, I’m sorry.” A sob racked his body as the cold retreated further, “I love you, don’t leave me again.”

Love you Brian

He fell to his side and drew his knees as close to his chest as he could, trying to keep himself from tearing apart.
*~*~*

There wasn’t much light on in the house, only in the living room did the resilient buttery luminescence of one lamp combat the ever encroaching darkness. He was lying on the couch holding his chest, fading in and out of consciousness with his heart hammering erratically in his chest. His eyes never fully opened, but fluttered every now and then. His breathing was heavy and disjointed; his limbs twitched beyond his control.

Fresh needle tracks on his forearms bled a little, a few of the crimson droplets carved lines across the pale skin until they reached the edge and crashed to the hardwood floor. The small coffee table was littered with empty and nearly empty bottles of hard liquor and fat lines of cocaine.

A harsh breath tore from Jimmy’s throat; his condition was rapidly declining; the muscle spasms becoming more and more violent and frequent. He gagged and his breathing became worse. Zack knelt down next to him and softly whispered to him, his blue eyes fluttered open, but they were vacant. Matt’s gentle hands ran over his arms and at first blood ran more freely down his arm and then it slowed and clear liquid poured out instead.

After a few minutes the clear liquid stopped and only clean blood poured from the wounds. Jimmy rolled over and vomited liquor onto the wooden floor. Slowly his breathing evened out again and the muscle spasms slowed and ended. His eyes opened again, no longer vacant, he couldn’t see them of course but he could certainly feel them.

“Zacky? Matty?” he whispered. His voice was faint and hoarse and he was still not quite all there.

No more. He whispered sternly into the drummer’s ear. Jimmy slowly nodded and then passed out. Zack pressed a kiss to his forehead and whispered his love into the drummer’s dreams before he faded away.

Matt stayed a moment longer and ran his fingers down Jimmy’s cheek, he turned into the cold touch and relaxed more into his sleep. Matt pressed a butterfly kiss to his forehead and another to his cheek and then he too slowly faded away.

*~*~*
He sat up suddenly, the nightmare again plaguing his thoughts. He shivered in the cold room and lay down again pulling the light sheet tighter around his naked torso. A few tears slid down his cheek and soaked into his pillow. The cold didn’t abate, if anything, it seemed to be getting worse.

Someone laid a hand on his back and he started violently. His fear was calmed by an achingly familiar presence and soft words more in his mind than in his ear. Freezing lips pressed against his temple and cold hands soothed away the rest of his nightmare. Zack’s calm presence rested beside him on the bed while Matt stood protectively next to the bed. Quiet words whispered to him and a peaceful sleep finally stole through his mind and his dreams.

He felt them begin to fade, the room became a little lonelier, he struggled up from the depths of sleep, “Dun’ go Zacky…stay…” he forgot the thought as sleep pressed more firmly upon him. Soft words calmed him and gave the sleep weighing down his eyelids more strength. Still, they began to fade more and he struggled against the sleep, “Stay, please…lil’ longer.” Tears again soaked his pillow and the heavy weight that had been pressing on him for more than a week came back with a crushing force.

“Zacky, Matty stay. Stay with…us…” sleep won the battle and he slipped into dreams he would never remember. A feather light kiss pressed against his forehead and another against his temple and then the cold was gone and he was alone again.
