Chapter 3
"Hello?" Ella opened her eyes to complete darkness, nothing to be seen anywhere around her. "How do I do this?" She shook her head trying to remember exactly what she did the last time. "Okay...um. Last time, I just wanted to be home. Then I wanted someone to help me....and that's what I got. So..."She took a deep breath in and closed her eyes, "I want someone." She opened one eye and was still in complete darkness. Alone.
"I said I want someone!" she said louder getting a little annoyed by the lack of response. She folded her arms and tapped her foot, "Come on! Please?" She whined at the dead space. "Well this sucks," She pouted looking around the area for any sign of life she might have missed. She stopped for a moment to think, "Is that what I really want, or is that just what I asked for? What exactly is it that I really want?" She paused for a moment, "I haven't a clue." She chuckled at herself.
She thought about her grandmothers final wishes for her. "May you chase all your dreams, and find truth in happiness?" She repeated the last line to herself. "I want to chase my dreams. I want happiness....I really want true happiness." She called out in the air with confidence.
"Why aren't you happy?" A voice replied from behind. Ella spun around to see where the voice was coming from. Her wide eyes fell upon a dark haired younger looking man. His hair was slightly tease, but not too much, and he appeared to be wearing dark eye make up. He wore a black t-shirt, and a pair of dark skinny jeans. He had a wrist band on his right hand, and a black fingerless glove on the other. On his middle and ring finger of both hands he wore big gothic inspired rings. Ella raised her brow at the young man as she thought to herself, 'I asked for happiness, and you bring me emo?'
"Oh, um. I'm just..." She had to think for a moment. She'd just received the home of her dreams, she had a good job she loved. What was missing? Her lips moved as she involuntarily spoke the words without thought, "Alone. I'm alone." She looked up at him realizing how true it was. She'd never felt so alone in her life, and she didn't even realize it.
He nodded and stepped closer to her, "Not anymore."
She smiled at him, "I guess you're right." She stared at him for a moment trying to figure out if he was as real as Johnny Depp seemed to be. She didn't want to poke him, it didn't seem to go over well the first time. She tried a different approach, "I'm Ella. What's your name?" She asked and reached out her hand to shake his.
"I'm Bill, "He shook her out reached hand. "Ella. I like that." He smiled at her, still holding onto her hand.
"Thank you," She felt her cheeks burn with a little blush, "Bill's cool too." He laughed, finally pulling his hand away. He placed both hands on his hips, and gave a bored sigh as he looked around the dark emptiness. First meetings are just as awkward in a dream too, Ella thought as she watched Bill rock back and forth impatiently. "Maybe we should walk, and see what we come up with." She suggested.
Bill's head quickly turned back to her as she spoke, "Ooo! Good idea." He clapped his hands together happily. Ella giggled at his enthusiasm. She reached out and grabbed one of his hands, pulling him along side her as she started walking in a random direction.
"Ella?" Bill looked at her with a puzzled look, Where are we?"
"Good question," She laughed a little. "I think...we're dreaming." She didn't want to panic Bill as much as she was on the inside, so she just tried to answer the question with the first answer that came to mind.
"Dreaming?" He stopped walking with her hand still in his. Causing her to jolt to a stop as well.
"Well, yeah. I think so." She replied stepping to turn and face him. She looked totally confused, and slightly frustrated with the situation. It was a case of the blind leading the blind, and she knew it.
"Then I don't know if this is going to change by walking," Bill looked around the dark space.
"You're right," Ella sighed loudly, and threw her free hand up in the air in frustration.
"Okay...don't freak out," He said," Try to think about something."
Ella took a deep breath in and breath it out as she closed her eyes. Bill took her other hand in his to calm her down. For the life of her she couldn't think about anything at all. Her mind was a blank slate. She sighed, shaking her head, and opening her eyes to look at him, "It's not working." When she'd opened her eyes Bill was gone. She dropped her hands to her sides, and looked around her in a panic, "Bill? BILL?!" She called out for him, but nothing. She was all alone...again.
