Chapter Thirty
Nikki was laying in bed when Jon flung the door opened and jumped ontop of her.
"Jon!" She said her voice a bit high with surprise.
"He did it. Holy shit! He did it!" Jon shouted bouncing the bed.
"Who did what?" She asked, at least it was good news she could tell by his huge smile.
"Rob! He dumped Cecile!" Jon said laughing as he said the words. Nikki jumped up and hugged Jon, jumping on the bed with him.
"Oh thank God. I was worried we were going to have to kidnap him before the wedding." Nikki said, actual tears springing to her eyes with relief and happiness.
"So what happened?" Nikki asked.
"When he gave her the pre-nup and saw there was a baby clause she said no way. Rob basically told her he only wanted kids from her and she refused. She is gone!" Jon related.
"This is the best news I have heard for a long time." Nikki said hugging Jon.
"Now we just have to figure out a way to get him and Lex back together." Jon said.
"I was thinking the same thing. What about Gary?"
"I don't know. He's a great guy. I don't think Lex is just going to leave him because Rob is single." Jon answered her.
"No there is no way Lex would want to hurt him." Nikki suddenly realised they were standing very closely and she was naked. She caught Jon looking at her breasts and decided that Lex and Rob could wait a bit longer and began to kiss Jon.
Lex was sitting in the kitchen having a cup of tea when someone knocked on her door. She looked through the peek hole and saw Jon on the other side. She opened the door and met him with a huge smile.
"Hello Jonny. What brings you by?"
"Just decided to visit my favorite cousin and she how she's doing." He said coming in and giving her a hug.
"That was nice of you." Lex wondered the real reason. Jon would phone her, he never dropped by uninvited. She hadn't told anyone about Gary moving out so she knew it couldn't be that. So what was the real reason? She wondered.
"Well I am a nice guy." He said looking around, something seemed different but he could figure out what it was.
"Yes you are a real saint." She said sarcastically. He laughed.
"Well after what I did to Nikki this morning I wouldn't be considered a saint." He joked. Lex laughed glad that he and Nikki were so happy.
"Stop, you'll give me nightmares. I was just having tea did you want some?" She offered. He nodded and followed her into the kitchen and began to pout his own cup.
"So where's Gary?" He asked casually.
"Gary moved out." She answered just as casually. Jon dropped his spoon and turned to her.
"What? When did this happen?"
"Two nights ago." She answered staring into her tea. The same day she had seen Rob. The same night Rob had broken up with Cecile. Didn't the two of them see they were supposed to be together?
"Why didn't you call me? How are you doing?" He asked rubbing her back.
"Actually, I feel pretty good. I never wanted to hurt Gary but he was right, we just weren't meant to be together. Not when I still...well we weren't meant to be." She said.
"Lex, I need you to tell me the truth. Do you still love Rob?"
"Jon...it doesn't matter..."
"Do you?"
"Yes." She answered, tears welling in her eyes. "I thought it would get easier. That over time it would stop hurting. But it doesn't. And seeing him...oh Jon. The feeling of just looking at him. That was better than any drug I was ever on. Gary knew, he told me I should tell Rob. Phone him and confess my love. I even began to dial the number but then I chickened out. I don't want to hurt him or Cecile." She began to cry harder when she said Cecile's name.
"Lex, stop crying. I have good news. Rob and Cecile broke up. They aren't together." She felt a surge of hope swell in her heart and then a memory of herself in an seedy apartment, she was on her knees, sucking some guys dick. She didn't know his name, didn't know the name of his friend who's cum she had just swalllowed. But they had a fix for her.
"That won't change anything for me Jon." She said folding her arms on the table and laying her head down. Jon knelt down beside her.
"Lex, I know if you just talk to him It will work out. Please. Call him. I'll dial the number or I'll drive you to his place. Just give it a chance." Jon said trying to see her face.
"I don't deserve him." She said.
"You deserve a second chance Lex, we all do."
"Jon you have always been so good, never stray from the path. You wouldn't understand. Would you mind leaving. I would like to be alone."
"Ok. I'll call you later. Take care Lex. If you need anything let me know." he said kissing her head and then leaving. He stood outside her door and smiled sadly when he heard her turn one of Rob's Cds a few minutes later.
"Okay, everything is ready. What about you? Finished up yet?" Jon asked coming into the dining room, Where Nikki was just setting the table.
"The candles just have to be lit and we are set. You are sure this is going to work?" Nikki asked a bit of worry in her voice.
"Well if it doesn't I am going take a plane to Borneo to escape Lex, she will kill me." Jon laughed, he kissed Nikki's head and said." Don't worry. It will all turn out. I can feel it."
"Me too." She said just before the doorbell rang. Jon went to answer it and Nikki went out to meet their guest. It was Rob. The chatted for a few minutes. Jon hadn't seen Rob this happy in a long time and knew it was because Cecile was out of Rob's life. Nikki went into the kitchen to get some water for Rob and to check on dinner. A few seconds later the doorbell rang again. Jon opened the door and Rob gasped when he saw Lex standing there, Lex saw Rob standing in the hallway and started to turn to leave. Jon quickly grabbed her and threw her into the house and then stepped outsied and locked the door. He had rigged up the lock so it couldn't be undone from inside, which locked them inside...together. Lex pounded on the door.
"Jon what is going on? Let us out. Jon?" She shouted.
"No." Came Jon's only reply. Lex swore and stomped past a confused Rob and went into the kitchen to try the back door. It was locked from the outside too.
"Son of a bitch!" Lex swore before she tried opening the windows. None of them would open wide enough for her to fit out.
"I am going to smash the window Jon." She shouted.
"They're gone. Just drove away." Rob said quietly from the hallway.
"Why are they doing this?" She asked herself more than Rob. He didn't answer from the hallway. In the kitchen a bell went off that Lex recognized as the oven timer.
"I should let their fucking house burn down." She muttered. In the hallway Rob smiled, that was the Lex he remembered. He walked into the kitchen and opened the oven door, inside was a roast, poatoes and vegetables. There were some dinner rolls on the table along with a bakery box. He got the oven mitts and pulled the pan out of the oven and set it on the top of the stove and then peeked in the bakery box. Inside were severaly pasteries and desserts. He saw several of his favorites as well as a few of Lex's.
"Jon, you crafty bastard." He said to himself.
"It smells good."
Lex said from the doorway.
"Yes it does. It looks delicious. So do we eat it?" He asked, wondering if her stubborn streak would keep her from joining him.
"Jon!" She said her voice a bit high with surprise.
