Like I Do

“I can't believe you really agreed to marry him.” Holden sounded shocked over the phone. Lenny stared at it.

“But why? Holden, you know I love him.”

“And I love Megan Fox, but I am not running after her, am I?”

“Holden!” she gasped. “I can't believe that you'd speak to me like that. Why are you being so down on this whole me and Bam thing? What the hell?”

“Nothing, nothing.” his voice reflected exhaustion. “I'm really happy that you're happy, okay Helena?”

“Whatever.” she hung up the phone with a scowl. Bam wandered in, beaming and bouncing on his toes.

“Come on, Lenny.”

“Come on? Where are we going?” she pulled herself off the bed, still stinging from her best friend's remarks.

“To look at wedding magazines.”

“Wedding magazines?” Lenny repeated, eyebrow raised. “Bam, you're moving a little quick, don't you think?”

“No! I think we need to get married as quickly as possible.” he grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards the stairs. “April has all the new ones, and said she'd look over them with you.”

“With me? What about you?”

“But I'm the husband.” Bam frowned. “I don't have to plan anything. I just get to say that I don't like the colors you picked and that I want all my friends to show up. That's my only job. And not puke all over your dress from a hangover, I think.”

“Are you kidding me?” Lenny's jaw dropped as they arrived in the Pirate Bar.

“You have to help me plan this! It's the rest of your life too, or did you forget that little bit of information?”

“I didn't forget.” he steered her into a seat and plopped her down. “I just knew that you'd want to have everything your way. Isn't that what every woman wants?”

“No!” she shouted at his retreating back. Lenny put her head in her hands and her elbows on the table.

“Excited?” April raised an eyebrow.

“NO!” she repeated. April rose, leaving Lenny alone for a minute with the hundreds of glossy magazines. The woman returned with a glass of white wine, putting it at her future daughter in law's elbow.

“You look like you could use this.”

“Did he seriously just stick me with all the planning? April, I've been to like, four weddings. None of my friends are married. I have no idea how this whole thing is supposed to work. Do we like, tell people when to show up? How do I pick wedding colors? April, I am so confused!”

“I should have figured that he would have done something like this.” the older woman said sympathetically. “Well, we'll just take this one step at a time, okay? What time of year do you want to get married?”

“I have a better idea,” Lenny smirked.

**

“So you got Lenny to plan your whole wedding?” Ryan leaned against his pool cue.

“Yeah. I didn't want to have to deal with any of that shit.” Bam lined up his shot.

“For someone that was so hot to get married a couple months ago, you sure are being really careless about this whole thing.” Dico looked up from his laptop. Bam just shrugged.

“I know Lenny, and I know she wants this to be a nice day. Why is she going to pick crappy stuff? It's a win win, I think. She gets whatever she wants with no fight from me, and I don't have to do a goddamn thing.” he sank his ball into the pocket and grinned.

“I think she might be a little more cruel than that.” Ryan shrugged as he went to take his shot.

“Oh, you just don't know my girl like I do.”

“No, I guess not.”
