So, CC's is a marvelous thing. and not cici's pizza, although that's ok. CC's coffee. for one, it's like the greatest coffee ever, and i realize that y'all probably have never heard of it cause it's a southern thing, but yea. and two, there's a coffee house like two miles from our house with all the glorious wireless internet one can desire, lol. so, i was feeling generous and thought i'd update. it's short, but length ain't nothing but a number, and yes, i know that makes absolutely no sense, but me+coffee=off the wall, lol.

"Everything is cut and dry:

Day and night, earth and sky.

Somehow I just don't believe it ."

"What's on your mind?" Carrie asked the next morning as they lay in bed. Her eyes were still closed, but she could feel Kelly absentmindedly playing with the hem of her shirt, always a sure sign that the Texan was either a. nervous, or b. in deep thought, and since there wasn't any reason for her to be nervous, Carrie figured it was the latter.

"You're my friend," Kelly commented thoughtfully.

"Of course...I mean, yea...I mean, aren't I?" Carrie said, confusing herself.

"Yea, no, that's not what I meant," Kelly laughed softly as she stopped fiddling with the country singer's shirt and wrapped her arms around her waist, hugging her close. "Of course you're my friend."

"Good," Carrie smiled. "Cause I was about to say...I don't just sleep with anybody."

Kelly chuckled, continuing to hold her close, enjoying the feeling of lying in someone's arms, "Well, that's kinda what I meant."

"Are you propositioning me?'

"You wish."

Carrie laughed, giving her a gentle squeeze.

"I just meant that Ashley's my best friend, you know? I've known her since forever, and she's been there with me through it all."

"Yea," Carrie nodded. "You're lucky to have someone like that. But I have a feeling there's a 'but' coming up?"

"But if Ashley's my best friend, then what are you?"

"What do you mean?" Carrie asked, resting her cheek against Kelly's forehead as she shifted her position slightly.

"I mean that you get me. At first I just thought it was because of Idol and everything, which a lot of it is, but there's more to it than that. I can have conversations with you that I could never have with other people."

"If you're saying that I understand you, then you're completely wrong on that one," Carrie laughed softly.

"No, I mean, like this conversation right here. Who else could you just lay and talk about stuff like this with? Who else are you able to be this open with?"

"Nobody."

"I know. Shoot, there's no one else I feel comfortable to just lay like this with period."

Carrie smiled.

"Like I said, I've known Ashley for forever, and she knows me better than anyone...but she doesn't know me like this. So, if she's my best friend, then what are you?"

"Hmm," Carrie said, thoughtfully. "I guess that makes me the coolest person ever."

Kelly laughed, pulling back just enough to be able to look at her. Carrie smiled warmly at her.

"I'd be so lost without you right now," Kelly admitted.

"You'd be just fine."

"No, I wouldn't," she shook her head. "I'd be working myself to death, probably still running around with Graham, just trying to find which way was up."

"You'd be just fine," Carrie repeated knowingly.

"I might've been just fine, but I wouldn't have been happy."

Carrie's smile grew as she kissed her forehead sweetly.

"What was that for?" Kelly asked.

"Because you amaze me sometimes, you know that?"

"I try," she shrugged with a smile, getting comfortable again in Carrie's arms.

"So you decided what I am, yet?" Carrie asked with a grin.

"No," Kelly replied, relaxing at the increasingly familiar sound of Carrie's heartbeat in her ear as she rested her head on the country singer's chest. "But when I figure it out, I'll let you know."

"Ok," Carrie chuckled.
