Life Goes On(Pt34)

“You want me to do what?” Phil sat dumbfounded across from Joe and Evelyn in his living room. Eyes darted back and forth between them.

“Evelyn and I want to have a baby and we want you to be…”

“I heard what you said Joe.” Phil stood up and ran his hand over his thinning hair. “You want me to be the father.”

”Yes.”

“How?”

“How are babies made Phil?”

“You…you want me to have ss...?”

“That’ s normally how it’s done…so yes.”

Phil’s mouth dropped open and he looked at Gail. “I would be cheating on my wife Joe.”

”Don’t think of it as cheating, just helping a friend. Besides she would know about it. That’s not cheating.”

“I don’t even think I can father a child at my age.”

“Yes you can. Just a simple test will confirm that.”

“By going to a doctor and jerking off in some cold room.”

Joe nodded his head.

Phil threw his arms in the air. “Oh….of all the hair brained ideas you’ve come up with for the last 50 years, this one tops them all!”

“I didn’t want anyone else to be the father of our child...well other than Rick. That’s why we’re asking you. You are in great health, have been for years.”

”If he doesn’t do it, I will.” Rick told them.

“Thanks Rick.”

“You are crazy Joe.” Phil pointed at him.

“So you’ll do it?”

”Not until I talk to my wife….in private. And don’t try to listen.” Phil huffed and grabbed Gail’s hand, hauling her from the room.

“I think it’s a great idea.” Rick said. “Keeps it the family so to speak.”

“Our next option was to adopt if neither one of you would do it.”

“Think he’ll do it?”

“If not, I get to sleep with the sexiest one armed drummer I know.” Evelyn smiled at Rick and saw him blush.

Phil and Gail entered their room and he shut the door.

“Can you believe what he asked me? This is insane. I’ve never cheated on you in all the years we’ve been married. Now here comes Joe asking me to sleep with his wife to get….”

”They're not married.” Gail put in.

“…to get her pregnant. To me that’s cheating on you.”

”No it’s not. I may not like it, but I’m thinking about what Joe said. Helping a friend with something he can’t give her.”

“Gail, our children are grown and married. I’m to old to raise another.”

“You wouldn’t be raising it. That’s Joe and Evelyn’s job.”

“So I just go in there, bang her and forget about the baby. No I couldn’t do that. It would be my sperm, my genes, I should at least have a say in something. I’m 69 years old…I’m too old to be a father again. I’m a grandfather for....”

“You are never to old.”

”I’m not sure I can even get it up.” Phil mused, then heard Gail giggle. “What are you giggling about?”

”You. ‘I can’t even get it up.’ Pu-leeze…you have a beautiful young woman….naked waiting for you in bed. I don’t think you’ll have a problem getting it up.”

“You…dear wife…are missing the point here.”

“And what point is that. That Joe and Evelyn want to have a baby and have asked you to be the father or you can’t get it up.”

“I can too get it up.” Phil scolded at her.

“Oh I know you can, as a matter of fact it was up last night.” Gail smiled wickedly at him.

“You better believe and it was up for you.”

“Then what are you worried about?”

“Us and how this may affect our marriage.” Phil said softly. Gail came over to him and put her arms around his neck.

“Baby I love you. Nothing will change that, even sleeping with Evelyn to get her pregnant will not change that.” She kissed him then. “You should feel humbled that they even asked you. When they could have either adopted or went with a total stranger.”

“You’ll still love me tomorrow?”

”And the next day, next year, the rest of our lives.”

“You’re sure you’ll understand if I do?”

Gail placed her hands on both sides of his face. “Yes I will old man.”

”This old man can still make you scream.” Phil smiled.

“Yes he can.” And kissed him again. “Your helping out two dear friends of ours that mean the world to us.”

“I don’t know.”

“I do.”

”Your to understanding about some things you know that. Are you sure this won’t bother you if I do this?”

“Of course it will bother me, a little, but you’ll be coming back to me and our marriage after all is said and done. Now go out there and tell them.”

Phil took a deep breath, then took her hand and joined the others back in the living room. Joe was standing by the fireplace and Evelyn was still on the couch talking to Rick.

“Um…Joe.” He squeezed Gail’s hand tight. “I just have one question?”

”You can ask me anything.”

“Does this effect Sav bringing me across on my Birthday?”

”You have two months to get her pregnant. I don’t think it will be a problem.”

“And if I can’t?”

”Then we’ll go with Rick.”

Phil looked at Gail and she smiled at him for encouragement. “Ok we’ll do it for you.”

Joe smiled wide, his dimples deep in his cheeks. He moved across the room intent on hugging Phil.

“Whoa wait….not to hard, I’m a brittle old man!”

“You are not old Phil.” Joe said and pulled him in for a hug. “Thank you.” he turned to Gail and scooped her up, spinning around. “Thank you Gail for understanding about this. It really means a lot to us.”

“Your welcome.” Gail kissed his cheek.

Evelyn came over and embraced Gail, whispering in her ear how much she really appreciates the both of them for doing this. Then did the same with Phil.

“This calls for a drink.” Joe said and pulled out the liquor and blood wine, he poured everyone a drink. He held up his glass. “To friends and loved ones where ever they may be. And success in having a baby.” Glasses clinked together and everyone downed their drinks.
