LAST TIME:

Proof, 50, and
Dre turned around to see Marshall with his left arm around Tai’s shoulders
again. Tai had her brow lifted while
Marshall looked like he was going to blow his top.

Chapter Four:

“What the FUCK
is your problem?” Tai asked when Marlee
walked out of the booth; or maybe LIMPED out is more like it.

“You are such a bitch!”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Marlee screamed as she took a step forward.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “You just think you are the best at
everything in the world and you don’t care about other people’s lives that you
ruin!”

“Where the Hell
did that come from?” Proof whispered to
Dre and Curtis. They just shrugged and
watched the scene unfold.

Marlee made to
take another step towards Tai but was stopped by fuming Marshall, “Now you
listen here—”

Tai stopped him
from finishing, “No Marshall, let her finish what she has to say.”

He hesitated for
a second and then stepped back to stand beside Tai. He folded his arms across his chest and glared at Marlee.

“I don’t
understand Marlee. I’ve never met you
before. How did I ruin your life?”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She was confused.

“You’ve never
met me! Ha! Think back about a year
ago. The tournament against the Stormbreakers.
Championship game. You cleated me when
you slid into third and then the very next inning you shattered my left ankle!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Don’t you DARE say you don’t remember that!”

Tai thought for
a second before it dawned on her, “Oh.”

“Yeah, ‘oh’.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Marlee said with a sneer.

“Look Marlee,
that whole cleating was YOUR fault. You
had your whole body blocking the base.
I couldn’t get there any other way; and the ball wasn’t even coming to
you, it was still over in rightfield.”
Marlee was going to say something but Tai wasn’t finished.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “I even apologized to you for that and you
said to forget about it. So don’t even
try to bring that up. And as for the
ankle thing…I am TRULY sorry that you can’t play anymore but you know as well
as anybody in this game how hard it is for a ball player to throw in the rain
let ALONE a pitcher. I dried it off as
best as I could, but it wasn’t enough.
I didn’t do it on purpose. And I’m
very sorry that I’m the cause for you not being able to play ball anymore.”

Marlee’s face
was red with anger. “You lying little BITCH!
Don’t give me that shit! You
were just mad because I was picked for the USA team and you weren’t!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> You just wanted me to lose my shot so you
could get picked. Well it backfired because you weren’t even considered!style="mso-spacerun: yes"> You know that you did it on purpose!”

Tai just looked
at her for a second, “Marlee, I was asked to come for the tryouts they were
having to pick the team. But I turned
them down because I had to go to a funeral and a wedding that were both out of
the country. So I missed the tryouts.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> And all that was before the game against
you. So don’t give me that shit.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She stated softly. style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “You just needed to blame this on someone and
since I was the one who hit you…” She
trailed off with a shrug. “I guess I
was the only candidate. Just let it go
Marlee. It’s only a game.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I know that sports are really important to
some people, but you can’t let it be the only thing you have to do with your
life. You need something to fall back
on.”

style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She made to jump at Tai but was blocked my
Marshall and Curtis who each had a hold on her arms.

“Proof call security and tell them they need to
escort her out of the building.” Dre
said.

“Right.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Proof got on the phone.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “They’re sending Randy, he’s right down the
hall.

“Now you,”
Marshall pushed Marlee into a chair, “sit here and stay the FUCK quiet!”

Marlee sat
fuming.

They all stood
silently for a minute. There was a
knock on the door and a large black man stepped in. He looked at the two girls and then at Marshall.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “Which one?”

“This one over here. Escort her off the grounds and make sure you get her badge.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Also let the desk know that she is not to be
allowed back in the building ever again under ANY circumstances.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Marshall said.

“Right.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Let’s go Missy.” They left.

There was an
uncomfortable silence.

“Marshall, I am
so sorry. I had no idea that—”

He cut her
off. “Hey, don’t worry about it.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It’s not your fault.”

“Yeah but what
about her recording?”

“Oh, that.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Proof shook his head.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> “Yeah, no, she sucked.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He stated seriously and then laughed.style="mso-spacerun: yes">

That broke the
tension and everyone laughed with him.

“Well the least
I could do is offer you guys a dinner at Blue Roses.”

“Blue
Roses? Isn’t that a little
expensive? And you want to buy us
dinner?” Dre asked.

“No.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I wanted you guys to buy ME dinner.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She gave them a ‘duh’ sorta look and then
smiled at them to let them know she was kidding. They laughed. “No, it’s
my family’s restaurant so…” Tai shrugged.

“Cool.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Maybe we’ll take you up on that sometime.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Curtis smiled.

“Great.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Tai grinned and then looked at Marshall.

He just rolled
his eyes. “Don’t let her fool you.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She’ll probably have them serve you peanut
butter and jelly.”

“Hey! It was
toasted!”

“Anyway, are you
ready to go Tai?”

“You don’t have
nothing else to do here?” She looked
over at Dre and he shook his head.

“You two can go
if you like.” He said.

“Cool we’ll
catch you guys later on tonight at the cookout.” He said as he put his left arm around Tai’s shoulders again.

“Yeah alright
Marsh. We’ll be there at 4:00.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Proof said.

“Cool. See ya.”

“Bye it was nice
meeting you all.” Tai smiled at them
and then looked up at Marshall. “You’re
gonna get dirty. I swear you are.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> She warned him again as they walked out the
door.

He just shrugged
with a smile as it closed behind them.

“He just met her
today right?” Dre asked.

“That’s what he
said. But if I didn’t know him, I’d say
that they’ve known each other for a long time.” Curtis said.

“Yeah, really.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Proof agreed.

~~&~~

They got in the
car and pulled out of the parking lot.

“So where to?”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Tai asked.

“Let’s just head
to my home. You can meet my daughter
and then if you want you can stay for the stakes that we’re havin.”style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He suggested.

“Sure, if you
don’t mind having me over.” She smiled
at him as they stopped at a red light. “Just
give me directions.”

He did and then
they were on their way.
