Moving On
Chapter 4
Jen was awoken by the shrill buzz of her alarm clock the next morning. She hadn’t slept well that night and was still so tired. She couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss Sean gave her; she could still feel it on her lips. She was also trying to think how tell him about her past. She had to tell him somehow, she didn’t want keep backing away from him.
She swung her legs to the edge of the bed, standing on the cold floor and headed to the bathroom for a shower and got ready to go to work. When she got to work she didn’t see Sean or Demetrius any where around. She walked to her office and shut herself in sitting at her desk, and put her face in her hands. She really hoped he would be here this morning to talk to him. She pulled out her files she was working on yesterday and started looking them over again.
Sean and Demetrius had just left Starbucks and were headed back to the Station with coffee for everyone who had wanted one.
“Something bothering you man? Demetrius finally asked Sean as they got into Sean’s truck.
“Yah, I asked Jen over for dinner last night and she left a little upset after dinner?”
“You had Jen over dinner?” he asked with a bit of a confused look.
“Why not? It’s time I moved on in life I can’t keep grieving over Stacy’s death.”
“So what happened man? Why did she leave you think?”
“I really don’t know, I think she might be hiding something from me, when I kissed her that is when she got upset and took off.”
“You are serious about her aren’t you?”
“Fuck yah, she’s beautiful, intelligent, what more can I say. I just need to figure out what she is hiding.”
“She will open up to you when she is ready Sean. Give her time.”
“I guess your right.” He told him pulling his truck into his parking spot.
Jen looked out her office window and saw Sean’s truck pull up. She would wait and see if he came to see her. She didn’t think she could confront him first. 5 minutes later she heard a knock on her office door.
“Come in.” she said.
The door opened and Sean walked in carrying two coffees.
“Care for a Vanilla Latte?” he asked setting it down on her desk.
“How did you know I like Vanilla Latte?” she asked with a surprised look on her face.
“I see you drinking it everyday since you started here.”
“Thank you Sean.” She said taking her coffee and taking sip. It tasted so wonderful; it was the best one she had in a long time.
“Sean, I’m sorry about last night.” She said turning her eyes down to her desk.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about.” He told her with a reassuring smile.
“There is a reason for the way I acted, but I don’t want to talk about it here. It’s very upsetting for me.”
“I understand. Do you maybe want to come over tonight and talk about it? Get it off your chest.” he asked her.
“I think I can do that.” She said looking up at him and smiling.
“Good, I’ll see you later then.” He said walking out of her office.
Jen sat at her desk tears forming in her eyes. She had never told anyone about her past, not even her best friends or her parents. This was going to be hard, but she felt she had to do it. Her secret always ruined her past relationships, and she did not want to ruin this one she wanted with Sean.
