Chapter 4

++a couple months later++
Toshiya lay awake in his bed, staring at the walls to his bedroom. He hadn’t gotten much sleep all night, and it was already 6:30 in the morning. He would have to get up and eat breakfast with Die in a short while, having promised the guitarist that he would try his cooking. “Unh… maybe he will forget…” Even as he said this, he knew that the chances of Die forgetting something like that were almost non-existent. He fought with trying to get a little more sleep for another half hour or so, before he heard his room mate singing in the kitchen. With a final sigh, he decided to give up and went into the kitchen to see what Die was going to make.
“Ohayo~!” the red head called to the bassist happily, before pausing as if in thought.
“Ohayo.” Toshiya stared at his room mate for a moment, uncertain as to why he was looking at him the way he was. “What?”
“You’re up rather early. Is something wrong?”
“No, I just couldn’t sleep.” Die looked at his friend for a moment.
“Are you sure that’s it?” something about the way Toshiya sounded wasn’t convincing Die that nothing was wrong.
“Yeah, I’m good.” even though Die still didn’t believe him, he thought it best not to keep pestering the bassist. “So.. What’re you fixing?” Toshiya asked, rubbing his hands together and walking to the dining table.
“I was thinking of making omelets, hash browns, and French toast. Sound good to you?”
“Hmm… without the French toast, if it’s okay..?” as Toshiya said this, his hand moved down to his stomach, as if to tell the guitarist that he wouldn’t be able to handle that much sugar.
“No problem. I hope you’re good and hungry, because that’s still going to be a lot of food.” Die turned and winked at the bassist before getting down the pans that would be needed for the meals.
It wasn’t long before Die was setting plates of food onto the table for him and Toshiya.
“Die…?”
The red head looked up at his friend. “Yeah?”
“Do you think we should have gone with Kyo, Kaoru, and Shinya to the hospital this morning?” Die paused a moment at what the bassist was asking.
“Why?” Die wanted a simple answer, as long as it was one.
“I- I don’t know… I just think maybe we should have gone.” That, however wasn’t what he was wanting to hear. The guitarist finished getting a plate fixed for his friend, and then sat down in the living room. “What’s wrong?” Toshiya asked, realizing that Die was upset. The red head shook his head in response. “Don’t give me that. What’s wrong?” again, Die shook his head, refusing to give a verbal answer, or let alone look at Toshiya. The bassist eat a couple bites of his breakfast, but couldn’t eat any more because of the amount of guilt he was feeling.
After storing away the rest of his breakfast, Toshiya went into the living room to sit on the couch. Die saw him out of the corner of his eye putting the food in the fridge.
“If you didn’t like it, you could just throw it away. It wouldn’t bother me any.” Toshiya stopped before he could sit down. “What? No, that’s not…” The bassist was very taken aback at the guitarist’s comment. For the first time since he had left the dining room, Die looked at Toshiya, hurt clearly expressed in his watery eyes. “That’s not…” Die got up and pushed past the taller man, and disappeared into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him. “…what I meant….” Toshiya sat down on the couch, his eyes stinging from the tears that were building up. ‘Die… what did I do? Why won’t you just tell me?’ the bassist thought, as he wiped tears from his cheeks before picking up the phone.

Die didn’t know how much longer he could pretend not to be hurt by the bassist’s ignorance. It seemed as though every time he tried to do something nice for the blue haired beauty, he would be stabbed in the heart by the that very person who held it. The red head sat on his bed, thinking of the memories they shared, and those that will never come to pass, and slowly his tears fell. And with each tear, he felt his heart heal that much more, though he knew it could never be fully healed.
After about an hour, he heard the front door shut. Curious, he left his bedroom to find that he was completely alone in the apartment. Confuses, alone, and afraid he had lost the one person he needed most, Die threw himself onto the couch and cried until there were no more tears to fall
