That Toast Looks A Bit Burnt
Mike walked into the cafeteria, the normal sound of forks and spoons clanking against plates surrounding him. Other than that however, surprisingly, it was pretty much quiet. No one seemed up for conversation. Probably just a bit too early. That was Mike's guess anyhow. Shinoda instantly noticed Chester sitting at a round table, along with Dave, Joe and Brad. The other man seemed nervous, very anxious as he at his eggs, looking around himself as if he were expecting someone to attack him. Mike took this into consideration as he approached the table.
"Hey guys, what's on the menu today?" Shinoda asked as he sat down in the empty seat beside Chester. No one bothered to answer his question. He decided to answer it himself by looking around at everyone's pathetic breakfasts.
"Mmm, mmm! Those eggs and sausage sure do look tasty. That toast looks a bit burnt, but I sure it tastes great to you guys."
"The eggs are really good Mike. They really are," Joe told Mike, lifting a fork that had a bit of scrambled egg on it.
Shinoda chuckled a bit at the fellow Asian, saying,"I sure it is Joe."
**
Chester's heart raced when Mike sat down next to him.
"No!" Chester yelled inside his head. "NO!"
Those feelings were back again. He hated those feelings. No. He actually enjoyed feeling that way but he knew it was the wrong way to be; Chester knew he'd live a better life if he just suppressed those type of feelings. In a weak endeavor to keep his attraction to Mike in check, he decided to pretend as if the other man didn't exist. He had to make sure that he didn't fall for this Shinoda person. Essentially, his sanity depended on it. The fair skin man shiver slightly as he recalled the short talk he had with Mrs. Fletcher.
"I know Mrs. Fletcher! But I'm not attracted to him, and I don't think he means any harm by his flirtation. I really don't." Chester couldn't believe he was actually defending Mike on the subject of his flirtatious behavior. Perhaps it was the threat Nurse Fletcher had made: That she was going to move Mike out of his room. Although his mind wanted him to fully agree to Mike moving out, his heart told him that Shinoda should stay. It was what he truly wanted somehow...
"Bennington. Do you have [i[any clue as to how far you've come from just six months ago?" Mrs. Fletcher said bitterly, Chester's blindness to Mike's behavior throughly annoying her. Chester nodded but she wasn't convinced of course. She insisted on cutting deep to make him break.
"No Mr. Bennington. You don't understand. Don't you remember when I caught you giving Mr., well, you remember his name. Don't you recall I caught you two performing...oral sex on each other in the shower room? Don't you recall that at all?
Chester's heart stopped as he was reminded of that horrible night, a night he usually kept at the back of his mind as it wasn't particularly pleasant. Mrs. Fletcher narrowed her eyes a bit as she so easily hit the right nerve.
"Do you remember?"
Chester whimpered as he nodded, not able to hold back the sudden tears back.
"Ah ha. I know I remember. Your mother wasn't at the least bit happy about this was she?"
Chester shook his head, his eyes red, his cheeks wet with the salt tears that rolled down them.
"That's right. And just imagine how she'll feel when I tell her that you've already backslid and are chumming it up with a homosexual."
Chester's eyes widened as Mrs. Fletcher mentioned his mother. He never could put his finger on his fear of his mother, but it was one that controlled his life. Fear of his Mother had been there since he could remember and he knew it wasn't going anywhere so he decided not to even question it.
"Please no! Mrs. Fletcher you can't do that!" The blond screamed at her.
Unfazed by his sudden anger and panic, Mrs. Fletcher addressed him calmly, "Mr. Bennington, I'm afraid I have all the ability to pass this information on to your mother. It's actually required and expected of me as Head Nurse. It's something that she should know."
Chester began to breath heavily as the realization of his situation overtook him. He attempted to pull at his hair, however it was too short which made him panic even more as he didn't have anything for leverage, nothing to damage or to pull on. He fought back his breakdown, watching Mrs. Fletcher get a sort of sick enjoyment out of it.
"No! Mrs. Fletcher. Please. Anything but that!" Chester finally said, his hands pulling at his red face.
Mrs. Fletcher grinned a bit as she got closer to the young man.
"I know the perfect solution to the problem..."
***
For the first time that day Mike noticed Chester looking at him as he stood in line for his craptastic breakfast. It made him feel better than he expected or wanted it to. After he received his plate, Mike made his way back to the round table, most of the men already done with their food, except for Chester who seemed to not be particularly hungry at the moment.
"What's up man?" Mike finally asked Chester after a couple of minutes of Mike eating quietly, waving goodbyes to the other men who had already finished their breakfast. The thin man that sat next to him shrugged his shoulders and brought a cup of orange juice to his lips. It was better to not fully en-knowledge Mike, but he couldn't completely ignore him. It was quite impossible.
"What's the matter?" Mike reached over to lay his hand on the fragile man's bony shoulder, but Chester quickly moved away as if Mike's hand held hot coals.
"No!" Chester hissed, looking over to the spot Mrs. Fletcher usually sat. Thankfully she wasn't there.
Mike, wide eyed for a moment, took in the nervous nature of Chester. It was particularly disturbing. He couldn't believe that this Nurse had inflicted this amount of fear in the young man.
"Ok! ok! I'll leave ya alone ok? I just wanted to help a fella out."
Chester waited a moment, staring at Mike eating his scrambled eggs.
"I don't need your help Mike. I just need you to stay away from me. You make me feel things I'm not suppose to." The blond said feebly, staring down at his picked over food.
"What do you mean by that? That I make you feel things you're not suppose to feel? What are you not suppose to feel Chester?" Mike asked, slamming his fork down angrily as he realized just how much Mrs. Fletcher might have poisoned the young man's mind.
"I have to go Mike." Chester said quickly, getting up from the round table and briskly making his way to his room.
Shinoda wolfed down a couple more spoon fulls of eggs and hurriedly drank down his orange juice before making his way back to the room.
**
Mike opened the door to his room to find that his belongings had been repacked in his bag. Mrs. Fletcher stood in the middle of the room with the two black guards Chuck and Malcolm. The way the two men stared at him, it seemed as if they were daring him to make any rash decisions.
"What in the hell is this?" Mike asked, his hands on his hips.
"Mr. Shinoda, you're being transfered to another room upon Mr. Chester Bennington's request," the nurse replied calculatedly, slightly smiling as she witnessed the fury in Mike's face.
"I don't fucking believe you. Chester didn't make this decision. Did you Chaz?" Mike asked him.
"Yes. Yes, I made this decision," the young man said calmly as he stared out of the window.
"How about you look at me when I'm talking to you damn it!" Mike was definitely angry by this. It wasn't exactly the act of being transfered to another room that made him furious, it was the fact that Nurse Fletcher had undoubtedly planned it all and had eventually sent Chester on some type of guilt trip. She had won. Something he wasn't keen on allowing.
Chester involuntarily flinched at Mike's voice. Several men from the ward gathered around the open doorway as Mike's voice escalated.
"Mr. Shinoda, I'm going to have to ask you to calm down and exit the room." Mrs. Fletcher asked him calmly, opening her hand to reveal a syringe.
"Fuck this! This is bullshit!" Mike screamed, moving forward to force Chester to look at him. However, he was quickly hindered by a quick blow to the stomach. The Asian fell over onto the ground, clenching his stomach with his arms. He groaned loudly as the dull pain shot through him.
"You fuckers!" He managed to say before Malcolm picked him up from the floor.
"Mr. Shinoda, I'm going to ask you once more to calm down. If you you will not comply I will be forced to medicate you."
"Fuck you, you bitch! You just go around here brainwashing these sad fucks into thinking you're some sort of threat! You're nothing but a--."
With that Mike had been injected with a form of sedative and before he knew it he was knocked out cold. Chester eyed Mike's limp body, feeling increasingly guilty for the whole spectacle. If only he were stronger...
"Alright Chuck and Malcolm, carry him away to room 15. I'll be there in a moment."
Chester sat on the bed, staring out of the window. His skin crawled as Mrs. Fletcher walked about the room. Her very presence made him increasingly uneasy. As much as he was partly glad and grateful for Mike to now be out of the room, he couldn't shake the feeling that what he had done was terribly wrong. That he should have stood up for himself. This feeling was quickly washed away when Mrs. Fletcher reminded him of their agreement, their deal. Chester knew that he needed to stay away from Mike for sure now. Because if he didn't Mike's own safety would be in danger.
