Chapter 44

"If you're feeling salty, then I'm your tequila.
If you've got the freedom, I've got the time.
There ain't nothing sweeter than naked emotions,
So you show me yours, hun, and I'll show you mine."

"What is it?" Carrie asked, eyeing the five shots that were laid out before them.
"It's against the rules to ask," Jason replied with a grin.
"There are rules?"
Kelly laughed, "We're so about to rock your world."
"Ann, you ok over there?" Ashley called out to the assistant who was on the other side of Jason who was on the side of Carrie who was next to Kelly who was on the side of her.
Ann gave her a thumb's up.
Jason's grin got wider.
"Make sure he doesn't take her home," Kelly laughed.
"Please, he's pretty far gone. A few of these, and he'll be too drunk to perform."
"Hey!" Jason called out in protest as the two singers choked back a laugh. "I heard that."
Ashley held up her hands innocently.
"Ok," Kelly smiled up at the bartender. "You ready?"
"Definitely," he nodded.
"Why do we need him?" Carrie asked.
"On three," Kelly winked at her before placing her hand right on the side of the small shot glass before her. "One...two...three!"
The three Texan's quickly downed the first shot, all making a very similar face before slamming the glass back down while the bartender refilled them swiftly. Carrie quickly catching on, downed her own.
"Shoot!" she breathed, putting her shot down as well to have it refilled before downing that one, her eyes watering. "How many?" she asked as the bartender refilled it again.
Kelly held up a hand, wiggling her five fingers.
"God help me," Carrie frowned, downing her third.
Kelly laughed before downing her fourth, resisting the urge to curse at the bitterness of it.
"I can do this," Jason nodded, eyeing his last one carefully.
"Done!" Kelly called out, turning her shot glass upside down, and raising her hands in victory. She stumbled slightly, but quickly regained her balance.
"Thank goodness," Carrie replied, placing her fourth one down.
"Unh, uh," Ashley shook her head, swallowing her last. "You gotta finish."
Carrie's eye got wide as she turned to Kelly who nodded.
"It's the rules," the short Texan grinned, leaning towards her slightly. "You finish these, and we'll dance again."
Carrie didn't know what it was, but there was something in the hazel eyes staring back at her that told her this was an offer she didn't want to pass up. She turned back to the bar, her face set as she threw back the fourth shot before placing the glass down as the bartender refilled it. She choked down the last one, slamming the glass hard on the bar, her eyes burning.
"Woo!" Kelly cheered.
"Dance," Carrie said, pointing at her. "Now."
"Yes ma'am," Kelly laughed, allowing the Oklahoma native to pull her out onto the dance floor.
Carrie's eyes held a spark as they gazed back at Kelly's. The Texan took both of the country girl's hands into her own and placed them around her neck, pulling her closer.
"I'm glad we did this," Carrie said over the music.
"Me too," Kelly nodded, her hand resting lightly on the top of Carrie's leg as the taller singer stepped closer. "Definitely the best date I've ever been with to one of these things."
Carrie smiled, her fingers soothing over the nape of Kelly's neck as she felt Kelly's hand graze her bare leg just below her short dress, "Definitely."
Kelly's head grew fuzzy as she felt what she thought was the affects of the alcohol taking over. She moved her free hand to the small of Carrie's back, pulling the two of them together, not really caring anymore about whatever nerves she had felt before. She looked up into Carrie's eyes which were inches away from her own, and she felt her blood rush at the fire gazing back at her. She looked down to where their bodies were practically connected, and she felt Carrie's lips graze her forehead.
"Definitely," Kelly breathed.
