Lust In Love
“A blast from the past”
Gemma woke up and saw that Rob wasn’t in the bed. She groaned slightly missing the warmth from his body. She slowly got up from the bed and found her slippers on the floor. She found Rob sitting in the kitchen, reading the newspaper.
“Good morning, babe.” Rob put down the paper and turned his look in her direction, noticing the sleepy eyes and the frown between her eyes. “Slept well?”
“Not really. No.” She smiled at him and the frown disappeared. “I hate waking up without you next to me.”
“I’m sorry, hun.” Rob took a hold of her hand as she passed where he was sitting. “I got restless, and I didn’t want to wake you up.” She nuzzled his hair and kissed him on the forehead.
“It’s okay.” She poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down opposite of Rob. They had both gotten used to the morning rituals, almost every morning happened this way. Gemma caught herself looking at Rob – no, staring. She was amazed of how calm he looked, and he didn’t seem to have much of a hang over. He looked up at her, removing his eyes from the paper again.
“What?” he threw her a smile and she felt herself melt all over again. She was amazed of how good he made her feel – just by looking at her.
“Nothing.” She smiled back and took a sip of her coffee. “You feeling okay? Not the least hung over? I mean… you were pretty drunk last night.”
“Not too drunk to remember what went down…” Rob winked at her. “That was amazing, girl. But I must admit that I was pretty concerned about how you were going to greet me. I mean… I left you at the party…” Before Rob could finish what he wanted to say, Gemma interrupted and said.
“Yes. You did. And I wasn’t exactxcitxcited about that one. And believe me, I wanted to cut you off last night.”
”Then why didn’t you?” Rob looked at her with questioning eyes.
“I couldn’t. You are simply irresistible.” Gemma tried to sound sarcastic.
“I was smelly and wet.” Rob laughed.
“Yup. Exactly. I can’t resist you no matter what.” Gemma walked over to Rob and kissed him passionately. Rob brought his mouth to her ear and whispered.
“You make me dizzy.” She just laughed and left him in the kitchen to take a shower.
“Hey…” He yelled to get her attention. “I’ve been meaning to tell you… we need to stop by my place before I drive you off to work, okay? I have to get something.”
“Sure thing.” Gemma yelled back before closing the door to the bathroom.
---
Rob parked the car in the driveway and got out motioning for Gemma to come with him. She noticed the other car parked there as well, but didn’t think much of it. Rob often had weird friends sleeping over at his house. With Rob himself being present or not. He opened the door and ran up the stairs shouting to Gemma.
“Just going to get something. I wont be long.” She closed the door behind her and made her way into the living room. Rob always took long – and she might as well see what was on the television.
She entered the living room and became startled as she saw someone standing by the stereo taking out some CDs. She didn’t recognize him from behind but all of a sudden he moved so that one side of his face was visible. She shuttered and felt a desperate need to run out of the place and never look back. He couldn’t be standing right in front of her. He couldn’t. Not now. Not when everything was going so good. What was he doing there anyway? Gemma was just about to say something when she heard Rob come running down the stairs. She looked at Rob with a couple of panicked eyes. She wanted to apologize to Rob, but didn’t know where to start. This was going to be complicated. Rob didn’t seem to notice the panicked look on Gemma’s face as he just turned towards the third person and spoke.
“Hey dude.” Rob walked towards the man and padded him on the back. “Didn’t you hear us come in?”
“Hey. Yeah I heard you shout something to me. But… wait… us?” The visitor turned around and
exclaimed a shocked outburst.
“You!?” He had a confused look in his eyes. “Holy fuck. What are you doing here?”
“I could say the same thing to you.” Gemma felt her heartbeat go faster and faster. She felt dizzy from the sight of this blast from the past. The two looked at each other with intense and scared looks in their eyes.
“You two know each other?” Rob looked back and forth between his friend and his lover.
“Erm…” Gemma didn’t know where to begin – and to tell the truth, she didn’t want to tell him anything. She didn’t want to be there, and she didn’t want him back in her life. Not that he ever really was in her life. Rob looked back at his friend.
“Mike?” Mike jumped slightly and looked at Gemma.
“We met once. After a concert we did in one of the small clubs.” Gemma stared back telling Mike not to say any more. “We … “ Looks were exchanged between all three of them, and a silence took over.
“You what?” Rob’s eyes were searching for answers.
“We went out.” Mike finished his sentence and looked over at Gemma to see if she was satisfied with his answer.
“I wouldn’t exactly call it going out.” Gemma accidentally mumbled to herself out loud and saw the surprised look in Mike’s face.
“Don’t.” Mike’s voice was pleading her to keep quiet.
“What is this?” Rob was starting to get frustrated and angry. He felt left out, and he didn’t like it.
Gemma sighed and grabbed a hold on Rob’s hand, looking back at Mike.
“We kinda…” She didn’t feel comfortable and stirred lightly under Rob’s touch. “We… it meant nothing really. And I didn’t know…”
“It wasn’t more than a ‘one-night-stand.” Mike finished what Gemma had started. “I had just started going out with Anna at the time… and we met after one of our shows at a bar. I don’t… I mean… we were both pretty drunk. But I … I mean… we never spoke since… except for once, but we didn’t see each other after that.”
Rob looked at both of them. The angry and frustrated look from before had turned into this sad and confused need to know what this meant.
“I dont understand.” He looked at Gemma. “Did you know about him being in the same band as me?”
“No … I never really knew what band Mike was in.” Gemma looked Rob deeply into his eyes, showing honesty. “I didn’t.”
Mike sighed and got his bag from the couch.
“I don’t want to leave this hanging like this. But I really need to go… I have plans with…” Mike looked at Gemma and gave her an apologetic look on his face. “… erm… with Anna.”
Rob pushed his arm out in front of Mike and stared at him blankly.
“You are not going anywhere. I want to know every little detail. This is making me way too confused.” Mike and Gemma shot a fugitive look at each other and turned their gaze back at Rob who were ready to burst in to tears of confusion.
